Chapter 11- Common Ground

I left the classroom too after I told the teacher I was going to look for Nina-chan.

I’m not skipping class, I’m just doing what the teacher asked me to do, I thought to myself.

And I used “search magic” as I walked.

The person I was looking for was the person with the highest total amount of magic power in this school after me.

Nina-chan, as she says herself, is a the fourth rank. Even though there are several hundred people in the elementary school, Nina-chan and I are the only ones with more than fourth-rank magic power.

So, that’s where I should focus my efforts.

The guide thread silvate that I “transformed” turns like a needle on a compass and becomes an arrow pointing down the staircase. Nina-chan is at the bottom of the stairs. I wonder what she is doing skipping cleaning time.

But the fact that it pointed down the stairs made me feel a little relieved.

If she was in the women’s restroom, I wouldn’t be able to find her.

I followed the directions of the search magic and my feet took me to the back of the school building.

Once outside, the number of children suddenly dropped to zero.

It’s no wonder. There’s no team to clean up such a place.

Maybe they’re slacking off in a place where no one can find them.

Thinking of this, I followed Nina-chan’s footsteps and heard her voice from far away.

“Itsuki-kun is practicing magic all the time, even during class. That kind of thing is cheating.”

Nina-chan’s voice was talking to someone.

Who on earth is she talking to?

My elementary school doesn’t allow smart phones, so I don’t think it’s a phone call.

Thinking this, I turned my head toward the direction of the voice while hiding in the shadows of the school building, and there was Nina-chan with her back to the back gate. And floating in front of her was a purple smoke-like, fuzzy, unthinkable thing.

I wonder what that is.

I looked closely, but I couldn’t see any thread silvate extending from that purple something. If so, then it is not magic. If so, is it a monster?

Thinking so, I kneaded magic power in my body to exorcise it. while Nina-chan, who was facing it, didn’t seem to be in a hurry in front of the purple blur and was talking to it.

“No. Mama won’t teach me magic.”

The purple blur trembled at Nina’s words.

“What? To Itsuki-kun? You can’t do that! You won’t be able to win.”

From the outside, it looks like a bad guy talking to himself, but it seems to me that she’s talking to the purple blur in front of her. It didn’t seem to attack Nina-chan, but rather trembled as if to admonish her.

So that means it’s not a monster…?

I cock my head in my mind, but no answer comes back to me.

But I quickly shook my head at that in my mind.

No, I can ask Nina.

Maybe it could be a point of contact.

So I stepped forward and called out to Nina-chan, who hadn’t noticed me.

“Nina-chan! I’ve been looking for you!”

“…… what?”

At that moment, Nina-chan noticed me and looked at me with a blatantly unhappy face.

“Itsuki-kun may have been sent here by the teacher, but I’m not going to do any cleaning up. I have more important things to do than that.”

“What’s more important?”

“Magic training! I’m going to beat you, Itsuki-kun.”

Nina-chan turned away from me.

No, she said earlier that her mother wouldn’t teach her magic.

But I knew that if I said this, I would be revealing to her that I had been peeping on her, so I held back.

Nina-chan turned away from me after confidently telling me, but she showed no signs of trying to hide the purple blur from earlier. Then can I ask about this purple smoke-like thing….?

“Hey, Nina-chan!”

“What?”

“Is this your magic?”

Her reaction at that moment was amazing.

Bewitching! She was surprised and grabbed my shoulder with a force I’ve never seen before.

“Itsuki-kun, you can see my Spirit!”

“…… Spirit?”

As I heard that while my shoulder was being vigorously shaken, I instinctively asked back.

“Yes! Spirit. I created it and only I can see it!”

Nina-chan said that and turned her attention to the purple haze.

The purple haze danced softly as if responding to Nina-chan.

“I can see it.”

Nina-chan’s blue eyes looked deeply into my eyes.

The blue eyes filled both of my eyes, and she said quietly to me, as if I had been looking at the sky or the ocean for a long time, and my consciousness was about to be swallowed up.

“Itsuki-kun, you have it, don’t you? You have the magic eye.”

“Magic eye…?”

I don’t have such a big thing.

“I don’t have anything like that. I can only see other people’s thread-silvate.”

“Guiding thread silvate?”

“This.”

With that, I extended a thread silvate from my hand, but Nina-chan, who doesn’t have “true eyes,” didn’t seem to see it and tilted her head.

“The silvate is a thread made by kneading magic power. You stretch it and use it to do all sorts of magic.”

“I knew that!”

You definitely didn’t know.

But I don’t point that out. I’m an adult.

“Anyway! You can see the magic power before you use magic. You can only do that if you have the magic eye and since you can, it means you have it.”

Nina-chan said as she moved away from my eyes.

Indeed, if you think about it, an exorcist is the same everywhere, and there are different ways to refer to the ranks, so it is not surprising that the “true eye” is called differently.

I mean, is my eye a magic eye? I wonder if they will tingle on their own in time. No, well, except for the fact that I can see the guiding thread silvate, it’s a normal eye.

But, I see.

Nina-chan doesn’t know about silvate. Instead, she used a word I don’t know, “spirit”.

That can only mean one thing.

She knows magic I don’t know.

I want to know …….

I want to see that magic.

My curiosity, my desire for survival, is tingling strongly.

I want to know, because maybe it will take me to a place I don’t even know.

So I said to Nina-chan.

“Hey, Nina-chan.”

“What?”

“Teach me magic!”
