Chapter 27: leaving…

“Depart ─────”

In the darkness, before the sun even rose, a group of knights filed out of the fort.

“Captain. We’re just fighting bandits, right? Was it really necessary to gather this many people?”

The members did not think that the bandits they were trying to subdue were of that scale, but there was a line of troops behind them that seemed excessive. It is followed by accompanying carts.

“Because the destination is the destination. It’s not like it’s in the depths of a monster’s den, but quite a few adventurers have received requests, but it seems like none of them have returned.”

Normally, a matter of this magnitude would have been settled within the Adventurers’ Guild, but that was not to be. The bandits were different from the usual, so the number was increased.

“The young lady had undertaken it~!”

The captain glared at the person who intruded into the conversation with a light tone.

“Lang! How many times have I warned you to call her princess!”

Before I could give my own warning, Fleet, who was standing next to me, spoke up. Then the usual petulant remarks ensued, but the person in question was not listening at all, saying, “ it’s Because the young lady says that’s what she wants.” It is true that the princess whom we protect is not conceited about her status and treats the lower-ranking knights, commoners, and peasants without any discrimination

Therefore, representatives of each town, village chiefs, and even guild leaders came to the fort, and the princess had to answer to them.

“The princess is not feeling well herself, and yet ‥‥‥‥”

“She pushed through, saying she was fine.”

princess-sama did not meet the delegates in person. She is not in a position to meet them.

Nevertheless, she asked us to listen to their appeal and give them an answer.

“Adventurers are also participating, right?”

“It’s what they wanted. They want to participate, even if it’s for free.”

Behind the knights, a few adventurers were following them. They were not going to stand idly by, so they came to them directly asking to be allowed to participate. Lang muttered, “That’s passionate, isn’t it?” but they didn’t refuse either, and allowed them to come along.

“Those guys, on the other hand, ‥‥‥‥”

As soon as the duo, the mainstay of the group, learned that the destination was the “Abyssal Forest,” they refused to go, giving a list of plausible reasons like, “We will protect the princess!” (snap). Well, we couldn’t afford to leave the princess’s guards short-handed. But as a knight, I couldn’t help but notice the highlights in their eyes disappearing, saying things like, “over there…iya” and “No. I can’t do it…”

“The captains also went to the hinterland. Did you see it?”

───── what? All three of us were scratching our heads.

isn’t it like what those two said,”──── Get out of there.”

It’s true that when those two came back from the hinterland, they were saying things like, “We’re out! We’re out!” “They were in such a good mood and laughing” “I’m sure it’ll be in that forest.” “““It’s scary.””” and they stayed in their rooms for a while.

“I don’t think ghosts come out in the middle of the day.”

“And we didn’t find the target.”

“There was only evidence of a struggle between the magical beasts. ‥‥‥‥”

──── The three of them were horrified at the same time.

I quietly thanked Fenrir for defeating him.

“Was it amazing? I wish I could have seen it myself.”

I advise them not to do so.

As the dawn was beginning to break, the “Abyssal Forest” came into view ahead of us.

It was as large as ever. Even this is only a small part of the Abyssal Forest, so I wonder how big is it in total?

“Hey…hey. Something is coming.”

 ─────The carefree mood was over.
