Interlude: The Wizard of Dwell

“Breath of the Fire God, become an arrow and shoot through my enemies!”

With a chant, arrows of fire burn up the mineral ants in front of him. They seemed to have resistance to magic because of their mithril trait, but they were no match for the superior wizard.

After defeating the last of the chasing mineral ants, the golden-haired, masked, one-armed young man took a deep breath.

“Whew, so much for that, huh? Did you evacuate those miners safely, Ruby?”

“Oh, Cain’s magic is amazing! It’s the most amazing human magic I’ve ever seen.”

A petite girl of about 130 CM, who had been hiding after making sure the mineral ants were out of breath, emerged from the rocks in a heap.

Her breasts were disproportionately large for her short stature, and for some reason she was dressed in a maid’s outfit. Smiling at her, the young man unleashed his magic.

“Just because I have great magic doesn’t mean I’m a strong fighter. In fact, I’m nothing. With your blessing, O water goddess, judge those who stand in your way!”

A mass of water is produced from the young man’s hand and envelops the dead body of the mineral ant, cooling it. Then the girl lifted the corpse lightly. He let out an exhale of admiration at the sight of her.

The body of a mineral ant is made of minerals, so it weighs about 80 kilograms.

“Dwarves are as strong as ever. I wouldn’t be able to lift a mineral ant even if I had two hands.”

Ruby giggles at his words and throws the mineral ant like a ball.

“That’s what we’re good at. But you’re good enough, Cain! See, you’re always in such bad spirits, so I dressed up in something you’ll like!”

“No, those clothes are for the profession of a maid who serves her master, not work clothes. But thank you. I’ll accept your feelings.”

“Oh, you’re a benefactor! Without your magic, our settlement would have been in danger. We’re grateful. So, cheer up!”

Ruby walks beside him, happily carrying the mineral ants. Despite this mood, the situation is quite desperate. He has really only defeated a small portion of them. There are hundreds of mine ants living in the back of the mine. He shuddered to think what would happen if they all came at him at once.

“But you’ve held up well so far, aren’t they powerful monsters?”

“In the old days, there weren’t that many of them because we used to take them down regularly. The wars took away the manpower of both dwarves and men. Before we knew it, our numbers had increased.”

“I see. I’m sorry.”

The young man bites his lip at Ruby’s words. You could guess that he was Dwell’s war partner. And after that, they invited the dwarves to the capital and took the mithril that they were supposed to use. And this is the result.

“Why are you apologizing? Dwarves like to drink when they’re down. I’ll buy you a good one.”

“Your drink is a little too strong for me.”

“And we’ve got reinforcements coming from the next country! I’m fine! I’m going to have a drink to cheer me up!”

While he was happy to hear Ruby invite him out for a drink as if to comfort him, his heart was mixed. Because he was the one who was making them suffer. ……

Moreover, the mineral ants are more powerful monsters than he thought. Half-hearted reinforcements won’t do them any good.

“I don’t know who’s going to come as reinforcements, but half-hearted numbers or people won’t add up to anything…..”

For a moment I remember Georg and…. and Grace’s face, but my heart still sinks. I hope this doesn’t end up making Ruby even more depressed. ……
