Chapter 84: Honey Snow Time and the Chosen Workers

“Honey Snow Time? What in the world is that supposed to be?”

The sudden notice plastered across the campus bulletin board left many students scratching their heads in confusion. A few even felt a faint sense of disappointment when they realized this wasn’t another announcement about factory recruitment.

They had been expecting factory jobs. They wanted to go to the factories.

Yet, even though the opportunity wasn’t what they had anticipated, there was no denying the allure of anything offered by Boss Merlin. If it came from him, the work had to be light, enjoyable, and profitable. And the location? That was the true temptation—it turned out that Honey Snow Time stores would be opening inside the teaching buildings of the Arcane Academy itself. That meant no long commutes, no wasted time—students could attend classes and then step right into their workplace. Convenience and profit bundled neatly together.

It was impossible not to lean closer and read the job listings.

Recruitment Positions:

  • Store Manager, Honey Snow Time Beverage Shop
  • Beverage Maker
  • Cashier
  • Material Transport Personnel

Requirements for Store Manager:

  1. Management Experience – Applicants should have at least 1–3 years of experience in managing class groups, training squads, or adventure parties within the Arcane Academy. Those who held office in the Student Council or worked as teaching assistants would be given preference.
  2. Leadership Skills – Must be able to lead a team, motivate staff, and maintain clear, cooperative communication.
  3. Financial Knowledge – A basic grasp of finance is required. Applicants must have passed the Academy’s second-year mathematics exam with at least a B+, and be capable of handling daily accounts, controlling costs, and ensuring profitability.
  4. Inventory Management – Responsible for stock levels and ordering, ensuring supply sufficiency without wasteful overstock.

Working Hours: 6:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. (excluding class hours), with four flexible rest days per month.
Salary: Base pay 60 gold coins, plus full-attendance bonus 10 gold coins, commission based on sales (always higher than the full-attendance bonus), and year-end bonuses tied to total revenue (not lower than a month’s salary, with top-ranking stores receiving the highest rewards).

Trial period: Three months, without commission or bonus.

Gasps rippled through the crowd.

“Freaking hell, did I read that right? A base salary of sixty gold coins? With the attendance bonus, that’s seventy to start with!”

“Idiot, don’t forget the commission! That’s bound to be worth far more than attendance alone. This pay is insane, and there’s even a year-end bonus!”

“My gods… this is like a dream job. It even beats the salary of most noble guard squads!”

“But… isn’t the workday kind of long?”

“Boss Merlin already excluded class hours out of kindness, and you’re still whining? For this kind of pay, I’d work twenty-four hours without sleep. If you think it’s too long, step aside and stop competing with us.”

The air grew heated, voices rising in excitement.

“Look at the requirements though. They’re tough. A B+ in second-year mathematics? That rules out first-years right away.”

“Damn it, I am a first-year. Guess I’m screwed…”

“Not so fast—look, there are other positions. Check out the Beverage Maker role.”

Requirements for Beverage Maker:

  1. Magic Affinity – Must possess water-attribute mana, minimum level: First-Tier Apprentice.
  2. Magic Skills – Ability to cast freezing spells to create ice cubes.
  3. Equipment Maintenance – Responsible for cleaning and maintaining magical devices to ensure smooth operation.

(Alchemy students with excellent spice blending or potion-mixing grades will be given preference.)

Salary: Base pay 30 gold coins, plus attendance bonus 10 gold coins, commission based on sales (never less than attendance), and year-end bonuses ranked by total revenue.

Trial period: Three months, without commission or bonus.

“That’s much easier! Nearly everyone has water-attribute mana—it’s the gentlest kind, after all.”

“I’ve got ice magic. I can churn out ice cubes endlessly. Plus, I’m from the potions faculty. This job was made for me!”

“The pay isn’t as high as the manager’s, but even so, with attendance, that’s forty coins a month at minimum! That’s amazing!”

“And look—first-years can apply for this one too!”

“I’m signing up right now!”

“Damn it, you’re always trying to hog every opportunity! I remember you—you resigned from the Student Council. You could easily apply for Store Manager, so why steal Beverage Maker slots from us?”

“Idiot. What if someone better than me takes the manager’s post? I’m leaving myself a backup plan.”

The words hit home. Others fell silent, faces stiff, realizing how sound his reasoning was.

Cashier Requirements:

Simple—anyone with at least a C in the mathematics final could apply. Those with water-attribute mana, able to pitch in with beverage preparation during busy hours, would be prioritized.

Material Transport Personnel:
Applicants who owned magical beasts capable of carrying loads would be preferred.

Merlin wasted no time. He rented a classroom on the first floor of every faculty building and sent Gallant with a team to begin remodeling. Their instructions? Copy the design of Earth’s famous Snow King shops down to the last detail.

After all, this world had never heard of Snow King. Why not steal the mascot too while he was at it?

Meanwhile, poor Scarlett was groaning under Merlin’s exploitation. Her inability to control her gluttonous appetite had left her drowning in debt—over a hundred gold coins owed already. To repay it, she had been forced into endless part-time labor, her once-plentiful hours of slumber cut down to less than twelve a day. For a Dreamwalker like her, that was practically torture.

And yet, no matter how bitter she felt, she had no choice.

But now… she had awakened.

Even as she lay fast asleep, her body stirred. Her arms moved as if guided by unseen strings, quills flashing between her fingers. The murmured words of applicants seemed to flow directly into her ears, and she filled out forms at a dizzying speed. One hand, one quill… then both hands, both quills! She was completing two applications simultaneously. All for the sake of claiming double pay.

Her mind slumbered, but her body labored tirelessly. Scarlett, the Dream Master, had accomplished what no ordinary human could even imagine. Terrifying.

Even Stacie, Merlin’s diligent secretary, felt her position threatened. The pressure was mounting. After all, Scarlett had become the ultimate laborer—awake or asleep, she could keep working. She was nothing less than a worker chosen by fate itself.

Three days later, Honey Snow Time had taken root in the Academy. With Gallant’s efficiency, every branch faculty now boasted its own beverage store.

Nor did the expansion stop there. “Lotus Leaf Beggar’s Chicken” and the marinated delicacies line had been given dedicated classrooms too. The era of mobile food carts was over. Merlin’s empire was upgrading from shotguns to cannons.

But food and drinks were not the only concern. Having recently looted vast supplies from the Steam and Starlight Workshop, Merlin’s most pressing matter now was the upcoming final exam in Combat Class.

At this very moment, he stood at the gates of a colossal structure that resembled the ancient coliseums of Rome. His fingers traced over the ten storage rings glittering on his hands, each one brimming with hidden resources.

That weight upon his fingers… it was the sweetest security he had ever known.
