Chapter 90 – Night Charm
Royal palace castle — the third prince’s chambers.
White sat contentedly in his chair, fingers constantly caressing a pure-gold scepter inlaid with numerous precious gems.
This was something only a king could possess—one of the symbols of power.
Especially the large, translucent crimson gem at the tip of the scepter—White’s favorite part. Just staring at it stirred his lust for power to its fullest.
As a child, White had looked up from below at his father seated on the throne, yearning deeply for that position.
And so, he swore to himself in secret: one day, no matter what means it took, he would sit upon that throne.
Now, he was very close to his goal.
All it would take was for the Minister of General Affairs to announce the late king’s will to the public tomorrow, and he could place the crown—symbol of the pinnacle of authority—upon his head, officially becoming the next king.
“Foolish eldest brother… if you’re so obsessed with earning military glory on the battlefield, then by all means, fight to your heart’s content at the Red Sand Fortress.”
White sneered cunningly.
“As for the throne… I’ll be taking that without the slightest hesitation.”
Just then, a knight hurried into the room, urgency written all over his face.
“Your Highness!”
“What did you just call me?”
White’s face instantly chilled.
The knight jolted, quickly dropping to one knee and correcting himself.
“Your Majesty, I have an important matter to report.”
Hearing himself addressed as “Your Majesty,” White’s expression softened slightly. He set the scepter down on a nearby table.
“Stand and speak.”
“Yes, sir.”
The knight stood and reported cautiously:
“As per your orders, we have taken the Fourth Princess into custody and imprisoned her. However… the Second Princess and her servant are nowhere to be found.”
“What?!”
White frowned.
“Second Sister is missing?”
“Yes. I have dispatched many men to search the palace. So far, we have found no trace.”
“Her chambers—were they in disarray, or just as neat and orderly as usual?”
White pressed.
If the former, it meant the Second Princess, Triste, had fled in a panic; if the latter, it meant she had already anticipated White’s plan and made preparations to escape in advance.
The knight thought for a moment before answering.
“Her Highness the Second Princess’s chambers were exactly as usual, without the slightest disorder.”
“Hmph… looks like Second Sister isn’t a fool after all.”
After a moment of thought, White raised his head and said.
“You can stop looking. I have a good idea where she’s gone. You just make sure to keep my Fourth Sister under tight watch. Not the slightest mistake is allowed. If you can’t even handle that small task…”
The heavy threat in his tone made the knight break into a cold sweat. He immediately saluted in knightly fashion.
“Rest assured, Your Majesty. We will carry out the task with utmost diligence.”
“Good. You may go.”
Once the knight had taken his leave, Night Enchantress emerged from somewhere within the room.
This time, she was dressed in clean clothes, and she removed her mask to reveal her face—delicate features, a beauty mark at the corner of her eye, and an alluring gaze that could set countless men’s hearts aflame.
She approached White, smiling as she bowed respectfully.
“Your Majesty.”
“You’re finally back. How did things go over there?”
White asked.
“Perfectly.”
Night Enchantress explained in detail:
“The nobles who opposed you have all been eliminated without exception. As for the knight Count Terry sent to inform the Crown Prince—we intercepted him on the way and executed him as well.”
White nodded in satisfaction without comment, then beckoned her over with an outstretched hand.
Understanding exactly what the Third Prince meant, Night Enchantress walked forward without hesitation and lifted her arm.
White hooked his arm around hers, pulled her toward him in one swift motion, and caught her in his embrace.
“Well done! All the effort I put into training you was worth it.”
Sitting on White’s lap, Night Enchantress leaned against his shoulder, one hand resting demurely in front of her chest — the very picture of a delicate, dependent woman.
“Thank you for your guidance, Your Majesty. I will always remember it.”
“Good. Remember, you belong entirely to me. Serve me with a heart full of gratitude.”
As he spoke, White’s hands wandered freely over her body.
“I will follow Your Majesty forever.”
Caressing her cheek, White couldn’t resist leaning in for a kiss.
After a long, intimate moment, White suddenly recalled something.
“Oh, right! That maid who drugged my father — did you take care of her?”
“What’s this? Your Majesty, don’t tell me you miss that little tool of yours?”
She whispered teasingly into his ear.
“Am I not better than her?”
“That cheap woman was nothing compared to you!”
White quickly denied it.
“I’m only worried she might have left something behind. Even though she was completely infatuated with me, I can’t be too careful.”
“Rest easy, Your Majesty. Her body has been disposed of, and everything she owned has been destroyed. There’s absolutely no evidence linking her to you.”
“When I leave things to you, I never have to worry.”
With a wicked grin, White scooped Night Enchantress up and carried her to his spacious bed.
Just as things were about to get more… “sentimental,” a knock came at the door.
From outside, a servant announced:
“Your Highness the Third Prince! Count Luther requests an audience.”
White’s brow furrowed deeply, his mood instantly soured. The pleasant atmosphere was completely ruined, and now he had no desire to continue.
Still, since Count Luther was one of his most important supporters, White couldn’t refuse him.
“Let him in.”
White called toward the door.
“Yes!”
The servant replied, hurrying off.
On the bed, Night Enchantress understood that White was about to meet with the Count, so she sat up.
White gave her a roguish grin.
“Come see me tonight, alright? I’ll make sure you’re well satisfied.”
“Understood.”
Her face flushed red, she nodded and quietly slipped away.
White had been with many women, most of whom bored him after a few encounters.
But Night Enchantress was different. Every time, she managed to stir his excitement and leave him savoring the memory afterward — the main reason he kept her close.
Before long, Count Luther entered, led by the servant.
White was already back in his seat. He turned his head toward the Count.
“Have a seat, Count Luther. Let’s talk.”
“As you wish, Your Highness.”
The two sat facing each other. The Count skipped any pleasantries and went straight to the point.
“Your Highness, tomorrow Count Terry and his allies will certainly refuse to recognize the late king’s will. We must find a way to deal with the Crown Prince’s faction.”
“Heh heh heh…”
White responded with a cold, mocking laugh.
“Hmm?”
The Count frowned.
“Why does Your Highness laugh?”
“There’s no need to worry, Count Luther.”
With an insidious smile, White said coldly:
“Because Count Terry and his men… are already dead.”
