Just another Isekai Lover~

Chapter 85: A New Beginning

So heavy on my chest… it feels like something is pressing down on me?

Unwillingly, Owen half-opened his eyes and sleepily reached out his hand to feel around. It was cold and smooth to the touch, and as his hand moved upward, he felt soft hair.

What the heck is this?!

His mind instantly sobered. Owen suddenly threw back the blanket—and sighed in relief. It was just Euchina, asleep on top of him.

Wait a second… That’s not right! Why isn’t she sleeping in her own room? Why is she in my bed?

“Euchina, wake up.”

Owen gently shook her shoulder.

“Hmm?”

Euchina lazily sat up, rubbing her sleepy eyes, clearly still groggy.

She was sitting right on Owen’s stomach, and her loose pajamas had slipped slightly off one shoulder, revealing… well, the scene is best left undescribed.

Euchina, however, didn’t seem the least bit bothered. Instead, she naturally greeted Owen,

“Good morning.”

“Um, Euchina, can you—”

Before he could finish his sentence, the bedroom door swung open. A fairly young maid walked in, holding a wooden basin in one arm.

“Master, I—ah! I’m so sorry! I came at the wrong time!”

Seeing the scene before her, the maid’s face turned bright red and she quickly backed out of the room, closing the door behind her.

Standing outside, recalling what she had just witnessed, she thought: So the Master is into that sort of thing… No wonder he went out of his way to bring home a little girl that day.

Wait! The maid is seriously misunderstanding something here. No! It’s not what you think! I don’t even know when Euchina got here, and nothing happened! Absolutely nothing!

Owen was in a full-blown panic. He hadn’t expected something like this first thing in the morning. What a headache…

After some frantic cleanup, Owen was finally able to head downstairs and have breakfast in the dining room. Euchina, meanwhile, quietly enjoyed the animal blood provided by Ryan in her own room.

During the meal, Owen noticed that the maids were giving him strange looks.

But I already explained everything… Why are they still looking at me like that? Should I issue a gag order? If this gets out, my reputation will be ruined.

At the castle gate, Euchina—now dressed warmly—was brought over by Ryan.

Owen knelt slightly and patted her head gently, speaking in a soft voice:

“When you get there, be good, listen to your teachers, make lots of friends. If anything happens, go find Butler Ryan, okay?”

Today was Euchina’s first day of school. Ryan would accompany her and also teach some of the courses himself.

Owen had made this decision for Euchina’s own good. Staying cooped up in the castle all day wasn’t healthy. If she wanted to adjust to life here, she needed to learn how to interact with other students at school. The more contact she had, the less afraid she would be of humans.

By now, Euchina had gotten used to sleeping at night. Unfortunately, her verbal communication was still unclear. Interacting with others at school would help her regain her speaking ability.

There was no need to worry about the clergy discovering her true identity. They didn’t believe in magic. As long as she didn’t actively use her powers, she wouldn’t be exposed.

“Mm.”

Euchina nodded.

Truthfully, she didn’t want to leave the house. But not wanting to disappoint Owen, she decided to bite the bullet and go.

Letting go, Owen stood up and turned to Ryan.

“I’ll leave Euchina in your care, Ryan.”

“I’ll take good care of her, Master.”

Ryan replied, holding a basket full of supplies in his left hand and placing his right hand over his chest respectfully.

Elsewhere, at Fanny’s home—

“Wake up, Lilica!”

“Mm… Just five more minutes…”

Lilica pulled the covers over her head.

Watching her little sister refuse to get up, Fanny stood at the bedside with her hands on her hips, shaking her head in exasperation.

“If you don’t get up now, I’m going to use force!”

As soon as she said that, Fanny yanked off the blanket and dove in to tickle Lilica’s sides.

“Ah! Stop! Hahaha—”

Lilica burst out laughing,

“I’m getting up! Hahaha—Stop!”

Hearing that, Fanny finally relented and urged.

“Hurry up, you have school today!”

“Okaaay…”

When school was mentioned, Lilica dejectedly climbed out of bed.

After getting everything ready, Fanny took Lilica to school before hurrying off to work.

The pilot school had been converted from a former noble residence, and Lilica was attending one of the children’s classes there.

The morning consisted of regular lessons, with a free lunch at noon. In the afternoon, the teacher would review the morning’s content with the students and then conduct a short quiz.

If a student passed the quiz, they could go home immediately. If they failed, they had to stay behind and do extra writing as punishment before being allowed to leave later.

There were around ten students in Lilica’s class, all about the same age.

Today, including Lilica, everyone in the class was brimming with excitement. Why? Because it was the day Mr. Ryan would be teaching.

Whenever Ryan came to teach, he would bring plenty of delicious little desserts to reward the students who passed the quiz.

So on those days, everyone studied extra hard. Not for grades, but for those tasty treats.

Lilica sat at her desk, resting her chin in her hands, looking bored.

Two girls in front of her were chatting about what delicious food they’d had at home last night. Nearby, a boy was proudly showing off a roughly made wooden dagger to the other boys.

“Everyone, sit down. Class is about to begin.”

At that moment, the teaching cleric walked into the room, and everyone quickly returned to their seats.

Standing at the front of the classroom, the cleric didn’t start the lesson right away but instead made an announcement:

“Before class begins, I have something to tell you. We have a new student joining us today.”

“A new classmate!”

“Who could it be?”

As soon as they heard there was a new student, the classroom burst into chatter.

“Quiet!”

The cleric snapped.

Everyone immediately shut their mouths. They all knew there would be consequences for misbehaving—something they’d learned firsthand.

Then, the cleric gestured toward the door.

“You can come in now.”

A meter from the doorway, Euchina stood frozen, unable to take a step. There were so many unfamiliar people inside, and she was too afraid to go in.

“You can do it, Euchina,.”

Ryan whispered from behind, giving her a gentle push.

“Don’t worry, they’re not bad people. You can make friends here.”

Euchina looked back at him, then mustered her courage and walked into the classroom.

Once she reached the front near the teacher’s platform, Euchina hunched her shoulders and nervously looked at the group of children who appeared about her age.

In truth, Euchina was much older than those kids. But because she had become a vampire, both her mind and body had permanently remained at the level of a six- or seven-year-old.

So, mentally speaking, she was on the same level as the children around her.

“She’s so pale.”

One girl whispered in surprise.

The other students also began commenting on Euchina’s appearance, wondering how they had never seen her in town before.

This made Euchina feel even more uncomfortable. She lowered her head deeply, feeling anxious and shy.

“Everyone, settle down.”

The cleric had to step in again to restore order.

Once the room quieted, she introduced.

“Our new classmate’s name is Euchina. I hope everyone can get along well with her.”

After scanning the classroom for an empty seat, the cleric pointed to the open spot to Lilica’s left.

“Euchina, you can sit in the upper left corner, in the empty seat.”

“Okay.”

Euchina nodded and quickly walked over, clearly not wanting to stay up front under everyone’s gaze. It made her feel too uncomfortable.

Outside the room, Ryan watched Euchina take her seat. Only then did he turn and leave, finally reassured. He had his own class to teach and couldn’t stay any longer.
