Chapter 110: Three-Stage Assault

“Since everyone is here and time is short, let’s go inside and discuss our tactics.”

Lusha raised his hand and pointed toward a simple tent hidden in the forest not far away.

Each of the four tribe leaders brought along one companion clansman. A total of eight people entered the cramped tent one after another.

Apart from a lighting tool, the only thing inside was a thick wooden stump placed in the middle, its cross-section neatly cut flat. On top of it were several sheets of paper and a pencil—products recently manufactured in Bianshu Town.

The four tribe leaders stood around the stump, while their accompanying clansmen stood behind them.

Lusha pulled out a large blueprint and spread it on top, showing it to the other three leaders.

“This is a drawn map of the Black Wind Tribe’s village and the surrounding environment.”

He then extended his finger toward a cross mark on the map and added:

“This is where we are right now.”

It turned out the Sinking Sand Tribe had already thoroughly scouted out the geography around the Black Wind Tribe’s village and even drawn it onto something the others had never seen before—clearly a human-made artifact.

Surprise aside, the three leaders silently leaned in to examine the map.

The Black Wind Tribe’s village could be seen backed against a massive rocky mountain. To the left and right were wide stretches of marshland, leaving only the front with a single gate for entry and exit.

It was precisely this terrain advantage that allowed the Black Wind Tribe, when under attack, to defend only one side—capable of both advancing and retreating.

In the past, taking the Black Wind Tribe’s village head-on was extremely difficult. Even if all four tribes joined forces, they might not have broken through.

But now, Lusha felt confident enough to say that the Black Wind Tribe had cut off its own retreat.

“Listen, here’s what I need from each of you…”

Lusha began to assign tasks to the three leaders.

If the Sinking Sand Tribe had intended to use the other three tribes as cannon fodder at the very front, the discussion might have dragged on and even turned into arguments.

Yet, unexpectedly, Lusha placed his own forces at the very front, planning to face the Black Wind Tribe head-on. This left the three leaders deeply puzzled.

Wuna asked.

“Leader of the Sinking Sand Tribe, are you sure about this?”

“Rest assured, I have my own way of dealing with the Black Wind Tribe.”

Lusha replied with a confident grin.

What powerful method could the Sinking Sand Tribe possibly have against the Black Wind Tribe?

Although confused, the three leaders still agreed to Lusha’s battle plan.

If the Sinking Sand Tribe’s troops faltered at the front, the other three tribes could move in from behind to fight the Black Wind Tribe in a bloody battle.

With the plan set, the tribal leaders led their respective forces to deploy around the Black Wind Tribe’s village.

Among them, the Sinking Sand Tribe’s soldiers, following Lusha’s orders, lined up neatly at a distance directly opposite the main gate.

Inside the Black Wind Tribe’s village, countless soldiers had gathered in the central square.

Among them stood a particularly unusual unit.

The warriors of this force wore bizarre gear: unknown monster skulls covered their heads, their torsos protected by chitin armor pieced together from insectoid monsters, their limbs wrapped in curved hardened bones, and in their hands, they carried bone spears forged from the giant fang of some monster.

This was the Black Wind Tribe’s elite force—the White Bone Warriors.

The White Bone Warriors were incredibly fierce, each one capable of fighting ten opponents at once.

At the front of the square was an open-air platform. In the middle stood a stone seat, upon which lounged a Black Wind lizardman chief about the same size as Lusha. His right hand propped up his head as he looked down at the soldiers below.

He was the Black Wind Tribe’s leader—Zar.

A glaring cross-shaped scar marked his chest. Like his warriors, he wore a monster skull on his head, a red fur cloak draped over his shoulders, and smaller monster skulls mounted on both shoulders, giving him a sinister, domineering appearance.

“Chief!”

A soldier hurried over, dropped to one knee, and reported:

“Outside, a force has suddenly appeared and completely surrounded the village. From our observation, the enemy includes the Bloodfang, Claw, and Witchwood tribes—and even members of the Sinking Sand Tribe.”

“The Sinking Sand Tribe?”

A sharp gleam flashed in Zar’s eyes.

“After suffering such a devastating blow, only one winter has passed, and they dare to come back courting death so soon?”

At his side, a priest of the Blackwind Tribe stepped forward and requested:

“Chief, allow me to go forth and unleash my magic. I will cripple the enemy first, and then leave the final cleanup to the Bone Warriors.”

“Go…”

Zar permitted.

Behind the village gate, there were two watchtowers, one on either side. The Blackwind priest ascended one of them.

Looking out at the neatly arrayed enemy formation, she gave a cold laugh.

“Hmph, standing in such neat lines… you’re practically begging to be my targets!”

With that, she raised her staff and began chanting, preparing to cast a spell.

At that exact moment—Bang! A gunshot rang out, startling several birdlike monsters from the distant forest into flight.

The priest’s hand loosened, her staff slipped from her grasp, and her body pitched backward, tumbling directly off the watchtower.

Thud! She crashed heavily to the ground.

“Priestess!”

A female tribeswoman who served her hurried over, about to lift the fallen priestess, but froze when she saw that the woman’s head had been blasted apart—a gruesome and unbearable sight.

“Ahhh! The priestess is dead!”

The tribeswoman shrieked in terror, releasing the corpse and stumbling back several steps.

Meanwhile, perched in a tall tree far away, Xilong was already loading his next bullet.

The firearm in his hands was a rifled musket—its range and accuracy greatly enhanced, making it usable as a sniper weapon.

Lifting the musket again, Xilong wore a proud expression.

“I wonder… will that shot just now earn Brother Maddie’s approval?”

Xilong had learned his marksmanship from Maddie. Though his skills were still somewhat inferior, they were already impressive.

“What happened?”

Zar came over to ask.

“Chief, the priestess has just been killed.”

The female tribeswoman stammered.

“How?”

“I… I don’t know.”

Thinking for a moment, she added:

“Just now, I heard a loud bang, and then the priestess fell from the tower.”

A loud bang? Could it be the enemy’s long-range attack?

“Did you see any arrows?”

Zar pressed.

The woman shook her head.

Damn it! What in the world is going on? A nameless fear stirred in Zar’s heart at this unknown.

He had originally planned to go into battle himself alongside the Bone Warriors, but now he had to stay behind to assess the situation.

So Zar ordered a volunteer captain to lead a hundred Bone Warriors out of the gate to test the enemy.

The gate slowly creaked open, and a hundred Bone Warriors marched out in perfect order.

At the captain’s command, the Bone Warriors charged.

Across the way, the enemy commander also swung down his arm. The front row of soldiers raised the “iron rods” in their hands and opened fire.

They’re attacking from that distance?! What kind of weapons do they carry? Watching from behind, Zar was shocked.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Lead bullets whizzed through the air. The foremost Bone Warriors fell one after another, their proud armor utterly useless against the enemy’s fire.

As soon as the front rank of musketeers finished their volley, they quickly stepped back.

A brief gap appeared. The Bone Warrior captain thought it was an opportunity and ordered his troops to quicken their pace.

But then the second rank of musketeers immediately filled the line and fired their guns.

This was the three-rank firing drill the Sinking Sand Tribe had rigorously trained through the winter.

The musketeers stood in three lines: when the first line fired, they retreated to the rear to reload while the second line stepped forward to shoot; after the second line fired, they too retreated to reload as the third line advanced. The cycle repeated endlessly.

By using this method, the intervals between volleys were drastically reduced.
