Just another Isekai Lover~

Chapter 77

Returning home alone, I temporarily revert from Silent back to Shizuma.

As expected, I stagger a little from the swirl of information that assaults my thoughts, but this time, I don’t lose consciousness.

“I did fight some pretty strong enemies in Silent… let’s see what’s changed—”

It seems the abilities connected to Silent improved from the recent battles.

Mercenary’s Instinct Lv2, huh… That gives me access to a few more combat techniques. Now I can use Gale Break, a projectile skill I previously used in the mountains to mow down trees.

That’s great. Having a long-reach attack using a sword is really helpful.

This will definitely be useful as I continue developing myself as me.

Also, the trait Stomach Fullness Retention has been successfully inherited.

This one makes you feel less hungry. It slightly reduces stamina consumption.

As expected, retracing the conditions I fulfilled as Seira allows them to be inherited by Shizuma.

“Alright, time to switch back to Seira…”

Bathed in light, I grow taller.

My limbs lengthen, and my center of gravity shifts slightly.

“…Yeah, I get it now. People’s gazes… they’re definitely hard to ignore.”

Melt isn’t around today… I’ll have to keep my rationality in full gear.

With Shizuma sleeping alone at home and Melt spending the night at the camp—

At the same time, in Lindblum, certain schemers had begun quietly preparing for their next move.

——————————

“What are we supposed to do…? We can’t even rescue Muraki, can we?”

“But we’ve grown strong enough to take down the adventurers guarding the treasure. Those guys were entrusted with the top prize accessory under heavy security. I bet they were some of the elite adventurers.”

“Yeah… but we couldn’t do anything against Melt-san. Or even that girl who chased after us.”

“That just means those two are in a different league entirely.”

Isaka and Kazunuma were speaking in whispers inside their hideout—a so-called ally’s mansion.

“…We really should split up and assign someone to gather intel. Our ally here is only offering us shelter, and not much else.”

“Right? We’ve been stuck in this mansion the whole time. I’m so bored~.”

“That’s true… But it would be dangerous to move together. We’d stand out too much.”

“Eh~? I’d be fine though. I dyed my hair. Black hair stands out more, ironically~.”

Elsewhere in Lindblum, girls uninvolved in the museum attack were also in hiding.

Yuko complained about their semi-house-arrest situation, though Hishida’s opinion that they needed a recon unit was perfectly reasonable.

“Given my abilities, I’m the best suited for recon. I’ll go propose it to the mansion’s master.”

“Ah, Shuu, not fair~!”

“Can’t be helped. Hishida-san’s power lets her find her destination even in unfamiliar places. She might even be able to locate Muraki-kun.”

“I see, that’s fair… Oh, but bring back souvenirs, okay? The food here is fancy, but it feels so stiff.”

“…Yeah, I feel the same.”

“It’s like French cuisine or something. Feels like eating at a luxury restaurant.”

“Alright then, I’ll ask for some more casual food too. At least something to help us relax during our time in hiding.”

With that, Hishida set out to negotiate for permission to act outside the mansion.

Morning

Good morning. I have conquered my desires.

Now I’ll go take a morning bath.

No, there’s nothing indecent about it.

I just didn’t feel relaxed enough in Silent, that’s all!

…Okay, maybe Shuris had something to do with that.

“…She seriously looked like a goddess of beauty…”

Crap, just remembering it is making my heart race.

I grabbed something quick for breakfast and pulled a bottle from the fridge.

Craft cola syrup. I wonder how it turned out?

“Whoa, delicious! This is on a whole different level from the craft cola sold in convenience stores… actually—”

Memories and knowledge of a drink I’ve never actually tasted come flooding back.

“It’s kinda like Curiosity Cola…”

They say it’s the most delicious cola in the world.

Damn it… I only have the memory of the taste… I wish I’d tried it back on Earth!

“Alright, let’s head to the Alchemy Guild first.”

But first—sunroom check. Good, no radar reactions today!

Let’s bring this cola syrup bottle with us.

I mean… I want as many people as possible to try it…

While waiting outside the Alchemy Guild for Melt, the receptionist inside kindly invited me to wait indoors.

Apparently, Neilson-san arranged it in advance.

He’s such a capable person… I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s actually one of this city’s council members, like Burke-san.

I was told to wait in Research Room 4, so I headed there based on memory. As I approached, I heard voices from inside.

Not just one or two—it sounded like a crowd.

“Excuse me, coming in~”

As I opened the lab door, the talking stopped. A group of what looked like alchemists all turned to look at me at once.

…Scary! And of course, some of them are letting their eyes wander!?

“C-Could it be, you’re the one they were talking about!?”

“Ah, no, I was just told to wait here too. Sorry.”

“Oh, I see…”

“I thought you were the rumored genius, but I guess not…”

“Hmm… But still, a newcomer. Quite intriguing, I must say.”

It seems everyone gathered here was eager to see the results of Melt’s experiment with their own eyes.

They’re calling her a “genius,” huh… Well, I can’t deny she’s smart. Though still…

“Excuse me, is Neilson-san not here yet?”

“Hmm? The chairman was speaking with Lady Elda about this earlier.”

“I see, that makes sense.”

It’s probably still early. Melt likely won’t arrive just yet.

I should explain the situation to them.

Before long, Elda and Neilson entered the room.

“Good morning, Neilson-san.”

“Good morning, Seira-san. I see you’re not with Melt-san today.”

“No, Melt is probably on a shared carriage heading to Lindblum as we speak. She was on a monster subjugation mission at a campsite along the eastern road.”

“I see, it was an adventuring duty. Then let’s wait a little longer. If she’s on the first morning carriage, she should be here in less than an hour.”

And so, everyone would have to wait just a bit longer for the “genius” to arrive.

In the meantime… I’ll go borrow some of the carbonated water I heard the Alchemy Guild stocks.

“This is… delicious! It’s unlike ginger ale or spice ale — there’s a complexity to the sweetness… a taste that evokes wisdom!”

“You’re right! It’s complex, as if it embodies the suffering, conflict, and sudden inspiration of a scholar…!”

“Indeed… it’s a well-balanced, complex yet palatable drink. It even has a medicinal quality to it, yet remains easy to drink. Well done, Seira-san.”

The cola was an absolute hit with the alchemists.

Wisdom flavor, though… what kind of flavor is that supposed to be?

“If only this could get me drunk… Oh—excuse me, I shouldn’t say such things in front of the guildmaster.”

“Heh, alcohol enriches life. As long as one uses it properly, it’s a good companion.”

“Haha… much obliged.”

Interesting. I wonder if this world even has strong spirits?
If they did, I could mix a bit and make a cola sour or something.

As I pondered that, the person we were all waiting for — the “genius” — finally arrived.

“Wah… I didn’t expect so many people to be here!”

“Welcome, Melt-san.”

“G-Good morning… What do I do? I didn’t think I’d be seen by this many people. I hope it worked…”

Melt stepped forward and began inspecting the large beaker placed on the lab table.

The liquid, once a deep red, had turned pitch black — so dark it didn’t let light through.

It looked almost like India ink dissolved in water.

“If it’s turned this black after two days, I’d say it went well. Okay, I’ll go ahead and pour out the liquid—don’t worry, it’s harmless and can be disposed of anywhere.”

The black liquid flowed out. Melt then peered into the beaker and smiled brightly.

“Normally, when making an elixir with Sekka berries, we use the berries along with a base potion and reaction water, then infuse it with magic to promote the transformation. But these berries are weak, so you have to gather a bunch and refine them to get the purity needed. It’s a hassle, but once you do that, you get a material that doesn’t get used up with each batch. I reused mine for around half a year when I was at home.”

At this remark, the surrounding alchemists erupted in murmurs — some with confusion, others in near disbelief, as though Melt had just said something outrageous.

But the moment they saw what was left in the beaker, silence fell.

“It’s complete! Look, look! It must’ve grown this big and beautiful thanks to Elda-san’s careful temperature control!”

What rolled out of the beaker—

—was a gem-like object, a vividly red, translucent crystal with radiant spokes stretching out in all directions.

Impossible… that came from a berry? Is this… alchemy?

“Now all you have to do is infuse it with magic in the same way you would with a regular Sekka berry. It should let you make elixir potions. For lower-tier ones, you could probably reuse this one crystal around seventy times.”

Melt explained this cheerfully, her face beaming. But when she noticed the unexpected silence around her, unease began to cloud her expression.

“D-Did I do something wrong? Was it disappointing? Grandpa Neil… I’m sorry if I didn’t meet expectations…”

“…No… not at all… It’s just that… we’re all speechless. This is far beyond anything we imagined.”

“It’s real… It really exists… Just like in the illustrations from that book… ‘The Tears of the God’s Blood’…”

“She said it can be reused… That matches what was written in the book, but still—!”

“From a berry? Something so ordinary? And from that, one of the Three Great Alchemical Treasures is born? No wonder we never found it! We’ve wasted so many years! But this one method — this secret alone — how many lives could it save!?”

The silence turned into fervent excitement.

So much so that Melt grew frightened and came to hide behind me.

“Melt, you said this was a material for making elixirs, right?”

“Y-Yeah… that’s how I’ve always used it. It’s just a reusable, convenient ingredient…”

Reusable. That’s probably what caused this whole uproar.

If what she said is true, then instead of spending effort collecting rare Sekka berries, they could use this again and again.

Sure, it requires quantity—but if it comes from something found in ordinary mountains, then yeah, this kind of commotion makes sense.

“Melt-san, to be honest, I never imagined the result would be a ‘reusable, indestructible material.’ This was once something of a legend, written in ancient texts like The Alchemical Dream-Grimoire. It was thought to be a fantasy. And yet, many alchemists have spent their lives chasing those ‘dream materials.’ Melt-san, today, you’ve made one of those dreams come true before our very eyes.”

“R-Really…? But you’re all happy, right…? As long as I didn’t disappoint you, then I’m glad…”

“Of course. From today, I’m sure everyone will admire, appreciate, and cherish you. At this moment, you’ve become the first person to ever lay hands on an alchemist’s dream.”

“T-That’s a bit much, don’t you think…? A-Anyway, I taught you the method, so… would it be okay if I go home now…?”

“Yes, I think that’s for the best. It may take a while for things to calm down. Once they’ve collected themselves, I wouldn’t be surprised if they bombard you with questions.”

Imagining the scene that might unfold, Melt shivered slightly, her tail fluffing up just a bit, and she quietly slipped out of the laboratory.

“That was surprising… I didn’t think everyone would react like that!”

“Yeah, though from what I heard, I think their reaction was kind of understandable.”

“I guess so… Hey, Seira? That book Grandpa Neil mentioned earlier — the Alchemical Dream-Wish Compendium — I think it might’ve been written by my grandmother.”

Huh? Judging from the way everyone talked about that book, it sounded like it had existed for a very long time.

“Melt, how old was your grandmother exactly?”

“Hmm… I don’t really know! But back when the village still existed, she served as the village head — two generations ago. The Silver Fox Tribe has all sorts of lifespans. Most live just a bit longer than regular foxfolk, but some can live as long as elves, apparently.”

“I see… So that’s how it is. Well then… I guess I’ll have to live as long as I can too — for your sake.”

I said it offhandedly, but… I shouldn’t have.

Apparently, the topic of lifespan was a bit of a taboo for Melt—

“No… I don’t want to be left behind… I don’t want Seira, or Seim, or Shizuma, or Shire to die before me… I hate it! If it comes to that, then I’ll make every potion in Grandma’s book to keep you all alive…!”

“Ah—yeah, sorry. That was a dumb thing to say. Um… speaking of your grandma’s book… what kind of amazing potions are written in there?”

Remembering the fervor back at the alchemy guild, I cautiously asked Melt the question.

She replied—

“There’s a potion that makes you a year younger, and one that stops your aging for a whole year! You can’t make them with the red sparkly thing I just made, but you can with the blue shiny and the yellow glimmering ones!”

“…And can you actually make those shiny/glimmering things?”

“I think I could, as long as I have the ingredients.”

“Please never make them. And definitely don’t teach anyone how.”

“Yeah… I figured people would totally lose it. Shhh… shhh…”

Teacher! We’ve got a living Philosopher’s Stone over here!
