Just another Isekai Lover~
Chapter 3
As I watched the scenery from the swaying carriage, I was about to let out a surprised voice at the lush, natural landscapes—something I rarely see.
Along the way, we encountered monsters several times, including wolf-like creatures that I had seen earlier in the forest that was called a dungeon. But each time, the soldiers quickly took them down.
Hmm… These soldiers are far stronger than Isaka. So when they said “the strongest,” maybe they just meant the strongest among the group of ordinary high schoolers.
“Hey, you… answer us already. We’re in the same situation, right?”
“I’m sorry. We’re just people without any combat abilities. Could you please help us out?”
Muraki and Kazunuma, unable to wait any longer, spoke to him again…
“Shut up. I’m not interested in babysitting.”
“What!?”
“Tch…”
Maybe because they saw me blast that bear monster away in one hit earlier, they didn’t try to press me any further.
But really, if we’ve been summoned from another world as heroes, doesn’t that mean we should have some kind of perk or special ability? Maybe the wish that demon granted us is our special benefit? Or maybe…
Before I knew it, the carriage had passed through the wild landscapes and entered a more cultivated pastureland.
Eventually, we started to see people here and there—
“Open the gate!”
It was a bustling town. Judging by the large castle visible in the back, we had apparently arrived at the castle town.
This is awesome. I’m getting kind of excited. The town really looks like something straight out of a fantasy game. There are unfamiliar goods lined up in front of shops, adults walking around with swords and spears, and the surreal atmosphere is making my gamer heart pound!
Whoa! There’s meat hanging from stalls! That woman’s outfit is amazing! They’re selling staffs and wands!
As we proceeded through the town, we began heading up a sloped road toward the castle, just as expected. And once again, with the command “Open the gate,” the castle gates were opened.
“We have arrived. Please disembark.”
The carriage door opened, and we stepped out right into the castle. It was a real castle, built from brick and stone like something out of a game—something that exuded history.
Not a beautiful castle like those in a theme park, but one clearly designed for war. The atmosphere made me feel tense.
“Whoa… This looks like something out of a Western movie…”
“Yeah, I’ve seen places like this in films…”
“I see. Judging by the look of things, it doesn’t seem like peacetime.”
“So… they’re preparing for war?”
“I don’t really want to get too involved… but they will guarantee our safety, right?”
“I don’t really get it, but… let’s just follow them for now. They’re already moving ahead.”
Ah, crap. I hurried to catch up and followed the others as we climbed higher and higher inside the castle, eventually being led to an audience chamber.
Inside, there were already many people—mostly dressed in noble-like attire or wearing robes that screamed “I’m a mage.”
“Now then, allow me to officially welcome you, heroes from another world. I wish to bring peace to this country and to the entire continent. Of course, we will also do our best to find a way for you to return to your original world. Even if that proves difficult, I promise your safety and proper treatment. Please, lend us your strength.”
I’d love to just shout “I refuse!”… but for now, I guess I should at least learn as much as I can about this world. Honestly, I find this place kind of exciting. I’ve even started thinking, “Maybe I don’t need to go back.” It’s appealing to not have to worry about college or job hunting.
But unlike me, the rest of my classmates—who were enjoying life back in Japan—said:
“That’s only natural. We won’t just search for a way back ourselves—you people should use every possible method to find it, too. If you promise us that… I’ll help. At least, I will. It seems like the most efficient course of action for now.”
That was Isaka speaking. Rational, or maybe just a bit naive in some ways.
“Yeah, as long as you’re seriously looking… I’ll do what I can.”
“I don’t know about bringing peace or whatever, but I want one promise. You’re planning to make us fight, right? But we come from a world that doesn’t favor violence. So if someone among us says they don’t want to fight, don’t force them to.”
…That’s our class rep for you. Such a moral person. Even though he didn’t hesitate to leave me behind earlier.
The girls didn’t seem to object to what the boys had said. Apparently, none of them felt like speaking up.
“I see… I understand your demands. And now—Silent-sama. Will you cooperate with us? It seems only you are familiar with combat. If we could borrow your strength, it would help not only us, but also your classmates.”
“…I’ll decide after I’ve seen enough. Unfortunately, I know nothing about these people, you, or this world. I’ll observe and learn before making any judgments.”
When I said that, the king’s expression visibly twisted, and some of the men who looked like his aides—or maybe mages—groaned in dissatisfaction.
“I see. Very well. Then first, we would like to gather information about you all—your aptitudes and what kind of powers you may be able to acquire. It’s said that those who are summoned all possess a great capacity for growth and rare abilities. We’d like to confirm that now.”
Oho! So there really is some kind of summoning bonus, separate from that demon’s wish!
A mage-like man brought over what looked like a tray piled high with scrolls.
“Everyone, these scrolls will show an approximate measure of your future potential and current strength. Please take one and show us the letters that appear.”
Oh… so it’s like displaying your status screen! Since I don’t know the baseline, I asked if they could show me a sample from that can be useful.
“I don’t understand the baseline. Could I see an example—perhaps from one of your soldiers?”
“A fair request. You there, come forward. Please hold this.”
One of the nearby soldiers took a scroll and opened it.
The mage-like man received it, checked the content, and then magically projected the letters into the air for us to see. Whoa—just that magic alone is impressive!
Stamina: 657
Strength: 223
Magic: 9
Willpower: 101
Agility: 52
[Growth Potential: Low – Physical capacity has reached its limit]
Hmm? From a game perspective, stamina is probably HP and defense? Strength is attack, and magic is… MP and magic aptitude, maybe? Willpower—what does that represent? Maybe defense too? Agility is obviously speed. And the last line seems to be a diagnosis of growth potential. Got it, got it…
“This is a veteran soldier’s stats. Those who are summoned usually don’t start with high numbers, but their potential for growth is said to be exceptional. Now then, please check yours.”
My classmates began checking theirs. Come to think of it, Isaka wished to be “the strongest,” so I assume his stats are high… but probably not even strong enough to beat that soldier. In fact, when Isaka checked his scroll, he looked shocked and muttered quietly, “No way…”
“Now then, let us see yours. May I have your name again?”
“Yes. I’m Kouhei Kazunuma. In your world’s format, I suppose it would be Kazunuma Kouhei.”
And then Kazunuma’s scroll was magically projected into the air.
Stamina: 420
Strength: 35
Magic Power: 30
Mental Power: 75
Agility: 45
[Growth Rate: Highest – Stamina increases significantly, while other stats increase slowly]
Ohh… “Make my body strong,” huh? Seems like that wish is working just fine.
“Oh! The initial stats seemed decent, but that stamina is far beyond what a rookie soldier could match!”
“Indeed! And there appears to be a decent aptitude for magic as well!”
“This gives me high hopes for the others, Your Majesty!”
“Yes! Come, the rest of you, show us your stats.”
Next up, looking dissatisfied, Isaka steps forward.
“Iori Isaka. Your Majesty… could this be a mistake?”
“Hmm? A mistake, you say…?”
These are his displayed stats:
Stamina: 421
Strength: 311
Magic Power: 201
Mental Power: 91
Agility: 91
[Growth Rate: Medium – All stats grow evenly and moderately]
Whoa, he’s strong. Looks like he’s overall better than that soldier. But those odd single-digit numbers… yeah, probably means he’s “the strongest among the summoned classmates.”
“These stats are astounding! Iori-sama, you are dissatisfied with such strength?!”
“Indeed… a true all-rounder. He may be able to use magic freely as well…”
“…I understand.”
Isn’t that too luxurious? Probably one of those “genius type” characters from some training sim with high starting stats. Shouldn’t he be happy?
“Next, you there—your turn.”
“Shigeru Muraki.”
Stamina: 250
Strength: 310
Magic Power: 0
Mental Power: 75
Agility: 90
[Growth Rate: Highest – Strength increases significantly, others are average]
Ah, this must be the base model for Isaka’s stats. Two values are just one point lower. So then… magic must’ve come from somewhere else…
“Oh, this is excellent! We can expect great growth from this one!”
“Indeed! Train him among our youth and he could become the strongest warrior in the kingdom!”
The king’s in a really good mood now. I see—he was looking for people with clear growth potential.
A well-dressed soldier wearing ornate armor chimes in with agreement.
A commander or instructor type, maybe?
“Not sure if I should be happy about this… but I don’t feel bad either.”
“Heh, I expect much from you. Now then… next is a young lady. You, if you would?”
The next to be called is currently sitting at #1 on my internal “rotten bitch” rankings:
“Y-yes. Kaho Inami.”
Stamina: 30
Strength: 15
Magic Power: 200
Mental Power: 55
Agility: 70
[Growth Rate: High – Magic Power and Mental Power grow easily]
[Already possesses the basic knowledge required to handle beginner magic]
Fair enough. Also, an extra line of text is now appearing with the stats.
Must be something granted alongside their chosen ability.
“Ho… this is a fine talent. She must receive the best education.”
“Indeed! Fufu, a student worth teaching!”
“Th-thank you very much.”
I’m not even gonna comment. Next up is that gal who called us “baggage” earlier.
“I’m Yuko Samie. Don’t expect too much, okay~?”
Did she actually wish to “go back to Japan” or something?
Stamina: 70
Strength: 30
Magic Power: 10
Mental Power: 80
Agility: 60
[Growth Rate: Highest – Agility increases significantly]
[Luck: Small fortunes happen frequently]
“Huh, I’m really lucky, huh~? I changed my wish last minute to ‘Make me lucky,’ since I usually have terrible luck.”
“Hmm? You seem to understand the origin of your ability.”
“Ahaha, nothing important~”
I see. Kind of a wishy-washy request. Depending on how you phrase it, could’ve been a cheat-tier ability…
“Luck, is it? Heh… perhaps it is we who are lucky to have you. Now then…”
“Shu Hishida.”
The last girl. She rarely speaks, but she seemed like the calmest student.
I feel like we’re somewhat alike, though she was always hanging out with that group.
Stamina: 5
Strength: 5
Magic Power: 120
Mental Power: 90
Agility: 80
[Growth Rate: Highest – Magic Power, Mental Power, and Agility increase significantly]
[Blessing of the Traveler’s Star – never loses her way]
“Ohh! Now that is a rare ability. Some veteran merchants are said to be blessed by a guiding star like this… fascinating.”
“Indeed… it means she can help guide others simply by being present.”
“I see… I asked for ‘power to never get lost.’ I had to shorten the words, so I was worried, but it worked.”
Hmm. This ability looks carefully thought out… deceptively powerful.
If she’s around, their party will never lose their way.
“Now then… next is Silent-sama, who was first to make it through the forest. May we see your stats?”
“Understood.”
So what will mine be? The menu screen still shows the same stats as in the game, but surely they’re not the same here—wait…
Stamina: 75,320
Strength: 41,200
Magic Power: 930
Mental Power: 5,210
Agility: 1,650
[Growth Rate: Low – Nearly maxed out, but with a bit of room left to grow]
[Holds the power of countless otherworldly realms within him]
…Yep, same numbers. The format’s a little different, but these are basically my HP and ATK from the game.
Also—whoa. I was maxed out in the game, but I can still grow in this world? Isn’t that a bit much?
Wait… can I take over the world with this!?
“Hmm, I see. So you’re even more powerful than I thought.”
“Wha… wha… what is this power…?”
“Could it be a scroll malfunction? ‘Power from another world’… that might have caused the error…”
“Well, who knows? At the very least—”
As an experiment, I decided to test what would happen if I moved at full power now.
I focused strength into my legs and launched forward, imagining the evasive step from the game days. In an instant, my body moved behind the soldiers.
Wow. I was fully aware of what happened myself, but everyone else was looking around, confused.
In other words, this speed must be too fast for the eye to follow.
“Well, I think that should be enough proof of my ‘agility’, right?”
“H-he’s behind us!”
“Oh! To think he could move like this… He might rival even demons or devils—or maybe even those people from that country!”
Hmm, so there are terrifying enemies out there with powers that can match this? Wait, are “demons” the kind I killed in that mansion in the forest? If so, maybe I’d struggle against them without holy water.
“What the hell was that…? He’s on a whole different level from us… Can we even get that strong?”
“No wonder he one-shotted that bear monster… Of course he did…”
“I’m supposed to be the strongest… why…? This can’t be right…”
“M-maybe if he helped us…”
“So like… he’s really strong? I don’t totally get it.”
“Probably like a thousand times stronger than us.”
Yeah, look, I don’t know and I don’t care. I’m sorry, but I have no intention of traveling with any of you.
Once I get the knowledge I need, I’m leaving. That’s already decided.
“Fu… fuhahaha… With this, our kingdom is saved… kuh, kuhfufu…”
“W-well then! Starting tomorrow, we’d like to begin educating you all about this world! Now now, you must all be tired from your long journey—allow us to escort you to your rooms.”
“Y-yes! And you must be hungry! It’s not much, but we’ve prepared a small feast for you! Please rest in your rooms until then.”
The audience chamber was now filled with a giddy atmosphere, as if they were utterly convinced of their victory.
I don’t know what they think they’ve “won,” but… hmm, I should probably assume that the information I get here will be biased. If there really is a war or conflict going on, I’d better take their stories with a grain of salt.
After that, each of us was shown to our own lavish private rooms. There, I finally removed my full gear, switched to casual—well, non-combat—attire, and lay down on the bed.
But not long after, a knock echoed from the door.
…I’ve got a bad feeling about this. I know this pattern.
