Chapter 67: The King Who Reaps What He Sows
In the ruins of Lindor’s summoning circle, the King of Admos, caught in the blast of Kenta’s magic, somehow survived despite suffering severe injuries.
Carefully transported back to Admos, the king was treated in his private chambers. The treatment involved gathering healers proficient in recovery magic, a rarity among humans, to continuously apply their spells.
Among humans, those capable of using healing magic were usually town doctors—commoners who were highly valued in their communities. However, their abilities were modest at best when compared to Kenta’s or the demons’ standards.
Still, the royal palace spared no expense, summoning a large number of these healers with hefty rewards. The promise of high compensation had them flocking to the palace, leaving their practices behind.
Rotating shifts, these town doctors applied healing magic to the King of Admos daily. While an individual’s spell might only yield minimal effects, the combined effort of many achieved a moderate degree of effectiveness.
Even so, it was only moderate.
It took months for the King of Admos to recover enough to move on his own. Though not fully healed, he was finally able to get out of bed, sit on a sofa in his chambers, and enjoy a cup of tea.
“Phew. Finally, I can move again. Honestly, those incompetent doctors! They’re useless yet shameless enough to demand hefty pay.”
At the king’s grumbling, his attendants offered polite but strained smiles.
“Your Majesty, without their efforts, you might have suffered lasting damage. Considering that, their contributions were not insignificant.”
The King of Admos clicked his tongue in displeasure.
“Tch, fine. More importantly, what was the cause of that explosion?”
When he asked, one of his attendants hesitated before responding.
“According to Lindor’s announcement, Kenta Maya discovered our plans to summon another otherworlder and destroyed the ruins entirely with a powerful explosion.”
Hearing this, the King of Admos hurled his teacup to the floor in fury.
“That savage from another world! So he’s the reason I had to endure such agony?!”
Indeed, Kenta was responsible. However, the fact remained that Admos had attempted to summon otherworlders twice in such a short period—both times intending to defeat Kenta. Naturally, Kenta intervened to prevent this.
But to the King of Admos, born and raised as royalty, anyone who obstructed his actions—regardless of their reasons—was utterly unforgivable.
“Damn you, Kenta Maya… Just you wait!”
Though the king was eager to retaliate, he restrained himself, knowing it would be unwise to act recklessly at the moment.
“Send word to Lindor immediately! Tell them to prepare to summon another otherworlder!”
The King of Admos commanded his attendants, but they hesitated, exchanging uneasy glances without responding.
“What is it? Speak!”
“W-well, Your Majesty…”
Reluctantly, one of the attendants began explaining what had transpired since the king’s injury:
- The summoning ruins had been destroyed by Kenta’s magic.
- As a result, the land around Lindor had become barren, incapable of supporting life.
- The citizens of Lindor, from royals to commoners, had abandoned the country, leaving it empty.
- Numerous criminal organizations had since tried to infiltrate the desolate former Lindor kingdom.
- Kenta appeared to be intercepting and repelling these intruders with magic.
When the attendant finished, the King of Admos was left speechless.
“W-what… Are you saying we can no longer summon otherworlders?!”
His shock quickly turned to rage. Grabbing the saucer from the table, he hurled it at the attendant.
“Eek!”
“And what’s this about Kenta Maya intercepting intruders? That can only mean he’s plotting to take over Lindor himself!”
This was a biased assumption, but in the mind of the King of Admos, it had become an undeniable “fact” that Kenta was attempting to seize the former Lindor kingdom.
The king’s remarks spread outside the castle, turning into rumors.
In truth, the origin of the rumors was none other than here.
When these rumors reached Kenta’s ears, he ceased intercepting the criminal organizations attempting to cross the border.
Without Kenta’s interference, the criminal organizations were able to freely cross the border into Admos.
In a way, one could call this self-inflicted karma.
While the royal castle was abuzz with turmoil over Kenta once again, a separate commotion was brewing among the common folk.
This was around the time when the royal palace had detained all the town doctors capable of using healing magic, leaving none available in the cities and villages for an extended period.
Someone had taken notice of the situation.
“Hmm, I see. So the royals gathered all the healers in the country to treat the king’s injuries? That’s awful, isn’t it?”
The person who said this was Ota, who had visited one of the clinics unaware of the doctors’ absence and heard the story from the people who had gathered there.
