Chapter 57: The Effects of Another World Summoning

“Huh? Oh ho?”

Listening to Mona’s report after her investigation around Lindor, I felt an intense anger I hadn’t experienced in a long time bubbling up inside me.

“Yikes. They’ve figured out you did it.”

Ivern said nonchalantly.

“Well, nobody else in this world could pull something like that off except for Maya-san.”

Added Nara-kun, equally casual.

Their laid-back attitudes annoyed me, but that wasn’t the issue here.

Sure, it irritated me that they were accusing me of blowing up the ruins without any evidence, but since it was true, I didn’t care much about that part.

What truly infuriated me was their justification for why I destroyed the summoning magic circle: they claimed it was to stop them from summoning someone to defeat me.

While that was partially true, my main reason for destroying the summoning circle was entirely different.

Whenever a summoning ritual was performed, the magic circle would drain magic energy from the surrounding area, leaving the land around the ruins barren.

It was an obvious ecological disaster. Grass wouldn’t grow, and the land had turned into a desolate wasteland. That’s why I destroyed the summoning circle—to prevent further summoning rituals and stop the damage from spreading.

But now…

“It seems Lindor is determined to repay my goodwill with betrayal.”

As I muttered this, both Nara-kun and Ivern gulped and looked at me nervously.

“Hey, Maya-san? Please don’t do anything rash, okay?”

“Y-yeah! Sure, Lindor’s response is messed up, but maybe they genuinely didn’t realize the damage it was causing?”

I scoffed at Ivern’s suggestion.

“There’s no way they didn’t notice. The environmental changes were glaringly obvious. If they didn’t realize it, then the king of Lindor is a true idiot.”

I could say with absolute certainty that they had noticed.

And yet, they pinned everything on me.

How could I be so sure?

Because Mona had also informed me that King Admos had been seriously injured by the shockwave from the ruins’ explosion.

The moment I heard that, everything clicked.

Lindor wanted to blame me for King Admos’s injuries within their borders.

And while they weren’t wrong to blame me, the reason they cited was unacceptable.

I destroyed the magic circle to prevent the barren wasteland from spreading further and affecting agriculture. If crops failed, Meyleen and Leon wouldn’t have enough to eat. I couldn’t let that happen.

But it seemed like the humans of this world were intent on digging their own graves.

“So, what should I do…?”

Honestly, the constant betrayals from Lindor made me want to destroy the entire country.

“…Yeah, that might actually be a good idea.”

I muttered to myself.

Nara-kun and Ivern froze, their eyes wide with alarm.

“Wait, Maya-san?! What are you thinking now?!”

“This is bad. I’ve got nothing but bad vibes about this!”

“Hm? Oh, I was just thinking about wiping Lindor off the map.”

“WHAT?!”

When I revealed my thoughts, they both screamed in unison.

“N-no way! You can’t do that! You’re already a wanted criminal—if you destroy Lindor, they’ll definitely form a world-wide army to take you down!”

“Nara’s right! Even if you could win, a world plunged into chaos would make it so much harder for Meyleen and Leon to survive!”

“…Tch. That’s a good argument.”

They were right. If a war on that scale broke out, resources like food and supplies would become scarce.

That would mean even fewer resources for a rural town like ours, and Meyleen and Leon might end up going hungry.

“…Fine. I’ll let Lindor off the hook for now.”

When I said that, the two of them let out huge sighs of relief.

“Man… controlling Maya-san is seriously terrifying…”

“Agreed. He’s like a ticking time bomb that could explode and take the entire world with him.”

“Yeah, totally.”

“I’ll kill you both.”

I retorted.

They were saying whatever they wanted without any regard.

Honestly, after everything that happened, it’s not surprising that I’d want to destroy Lindor entirely.

Thanks to them, I’m now being accused of planning the assassination of both the King of Lindor and the King of Admos.

Every time I try to act for the sake of this world, it ends like this.

This world is seriously rotten.

“So? Leaving aside the ruins explosion, what about the real issue?”

I turned to Mona, who had gone to investigate the area, to hear her report. Though at this point, I felt like caring any further was pointless.

“Yes, I’ll report now. I investigated the area around the ruins…”

Mona’s expression darkened as she began to speak.

“What’s wrong?”

“Well… the surrounding area has turned into a barren wasteland. Several farming villages nearby are in a critical state, unable to grow any crops at all.”

“!!”

“Huh?”

“Oh?”

I knew it.

Ivern stood up in shock, while Nara-kun, still not fully grasping the situation, tilted his head in confusion at Ivern’s reaction.

“Wait, wait! Mona-san! Crops aren’t growing at all?! That means… that means…!”

Yeah, it’s just as you’re thinking.

“A famine is coming!!”

Ivern’s exclamation finally made Nara-kun realize the gravity of the situation.

“A famine… like the ones we studied in history?”

“Exactly. Unlike the world we’re from, this one hasn’t developed advanced farming tools or techniques for mass production of food. That means they don’t have significant reserves. If multiple farming villages fail to harvest crops, it’ll lead to—”

I grinned at Nara-kun’s realization.

“A food crisis.”

“Why are you smiling?!”

“Because I saw this coming. Most likely, the summoning magic circle drained the magic energy from the ground, leaving it barren.”

In this world, magic is present everywhere.

Both plants and animals depend on that magic to survive.

And when that magic disappears, well, this is what happens.

“If you know that, shouldn’t we go help them?”

At Nara-kun’s suggestion, I shrugged.

“I thought about it at first. My hatred is for the rulers of this world, not its people. But Lindor has already declared me an enemy without any evidence. Why should I bother helping a country like that?”

“That’s… true, but…”

“Besides, even if I offered my help, no one would accept it. I’m the enemy of Lindor—or rather, the entire world.”

Honestly, I really did intend to help.

But they slapped my hand away themselves.

“Too bad, so sad. But this is just their own doing.”

And with that, I decided not to intervene in this matter.

Meyleen and Yulia, who were listening nearby, nodded in agreement.

Mona, who had seen the situation firsthand, seemed like she wanted to say something but ultimately kept quiet.

Meanwhile, Ivern, Nara-kun, and Eva all had complicated expressions on their faces.

“…I suppose Kenta has a point.”

“Y-yeah… Though reaching out a hand in spite of that is what saints or story protagonists would do, I guess…”

“…But this is Kenta-sama, after all.”

Well, look at that—Eva’s gotten pretty bold with her remarks.

“Exactly. I am Kenta Maya.”

I paused there, then turned to the three of them, who still didn’t seem fully convinced, and declared:

“I don’t show mercy to my enemies.”

Hearing that, the three froze for a moment before nodding silently. From that point on, they never brought up the topic again.

And so, I decided to remain uninvolved in this matter.

Incidentally, with the information I had, I stocked up on as much durable food like grains as possible in advance.

Thanks to that preparation, even when the great famine struck Lindor and the subsequent global food shortage spread like a chain reaction, this hideout remained completely unaffected.

Honestly, I knew the cause, and I had a solution.

But oh well.

This is the path Lindor chose for themselves, after all.
