Chapter 33: A Miscalculation
As the war between Weimar and Admos approached its final stages, key figures of the Admos kingdom, including the king, gathered in one of the castle’s chambers.
Their expressions were uniformly grim.
“Your Majesty… At this rate, the front lines will collapse, and the Weimar forces will inevitably reach the capital. We must take action now—”
“Enough! I already know that!”
Frustrated, the king shouted at his aide, cutting off the grim report.
“Curse you Weimar… groveling before an outsider like that summoned one. Weren’t they supposed to be spineless?”
In response to the king’s muttering, one of the military leaders spoke up.
“Spineless? On the contrary, the morale of Weimar’s soldiers is unnaturally high. It’s as if they’re being driven by some unseen force.”
The king’s eyes lit up as if struck by an idea.
“I see… Weimar hasn’t merely bowed to Kenta Maya. They’re being controlled by him.”
The room fell silent as realization dawned on the gathered officials.
“That explains their desperation… It’s because Kenta Maya is behind them.”
“If they show any sign of weakness, perhaps Kenta Maya will execute them as punishment…”
“That cursed outsider! He’s manipulating this world for his own gain! This cannot be allowed!”
The Admos officials, abandoning their anger toward Weimar, began directing their resentment toward Kenta Maya instead.
Watching the commotion, the king reached a decision.
“If that’s the case, there’s no point in prolonging this conflict with Weimar. We should move quickly to make peace and end this war.”
The officials nodded in agreement.
To them, Weimar was a pitiable nation under the tyrannical control of the summoned Kenta Maya. It became their mission to liberate Weimar from his grip.
They dispatched emissaries to negotiate peace with Weimar’s representatives.
However—
“What?! Such terms are impossible to accept!”
The Admos delegation was left speechless by Weimar’s demands.
“If you can’t accept our conditions, then there will be no peace.”
The Weimar representative stated flatly.
Weimar’s terms were harsh: Admos was to cede a portion of its territory and pay a large indemnity. Admos had hoped to negotiate on equal footing and work toward mutual peace while plotting Kenta Maya’s downfall, but Weimar’s resolute stance shattered their assumptions.
“Wait, hold on! Aren’t you being coerced into this war by that summoned one?”
The Admos representative’s desperate question was met with a derisive laugh.
“What are you talking about? It was your soldiers who attacked ours, threatening our nation’s survival. Kenta Maya’s influence has nothing to do with this.”
The Weimar representative, following the official line from the royal family, firmly denied any involvement by Kenta Maya.
“That… That may be true, and we deeply regret our initial aggression. However, claiming this is a matter of national survival seems… excessive. Could you elaborate?”
Admos, fully aware of its culpability in starting the conflict, could not deny the facts. Still, they struggled to understand why this had escalated to a crisis threatening Weimar’s very existence.
Yet, Weimar’s representatives refused to explain further.
“That information is classified. It’s a matter of national security.”
“Classified… I see.”
Faced with this response, the Admos delegation had no choice but to return home to report the terms.
When the conditions were relayed to the king, he was visibly shocked.
“What?! They seriously demanded such terms?”
“Y-yes, Your Majesty.”
“Why? Aren’t they under Kenta Maya’s control?”
The king had assumed that the war could be ended unconditionally, after which both nations could unite to confront Kenta Maya. However, this fundamental assumption was now in doubt.
“It seems that’s not the case. According to Weimar, this war is entirely a response to the crisis our actions caused to their nation’s survival.”
“And what exactly is this ‘national crisis’ they keep mentioning?!”
“They absolutely refused to divulge that information, citing national security concerns.”
After hearing the report, the king reached a grim conclusion.
Weimar is not under Kenta’s control.
Without a doubt, they have bowed to Kenta and submitted to his authority.
Continuing this war with Weimar would lead nowhere.
In fact, the current state of the war heavily favors Weimar, and if the conflict continues, there is a significant risk that the entire Admos kingdom will be annexed by Weimar.
Faced with this reality, the king made his decision.
“…Inform Weimar’s representatives that we will accept their terms.”
“!! U-Understood…”
The negotiator, his frustration evident, bowed deeply in acknowledgment of the king’s words.
“I feel the same bitterness as all of you. But it is better than losing our entire nation.”
Hearing this, the gathered officials, their expressions etched with frustration, reluctantly nodded in agreement.
Thus, Admos accepted the harsh terms of peace dictated by Weimar.
In the aftermath, as the royal castle buzzed with the activities of post-war arrangements, the Admos king seethed with fury.
“Weimar… and Kenta Maya… I will never forgive you… never…”
And so, leaving behind a deep resentment within Admos, the war came to an end.
