Chapter 7: Instant Purchase
“Re-Regula family!?”
“That’s right. What, you think this is a fake or something?”
“N-No! Absolutely not!”
Knights with robust bodies and Battle Horses pulling the carriage.
Moreover, the gate guards have the Appraisal skill, so there is absolutely no reason for them to doubt that these are indeed members of the Regula family.
“…But, it’s noisy outside.”
“Even the current head rarely attends parties held in the royal capital.”

“I see. Well, if you really know the true Regula family, you wouldn’t go out of your way to summon them, would you?”
About ten minutes after entering the royal capital, they arrive at the inn where they plan to stay.
“For now, I want to check out the weapon shop.”
“Understood.”
Two knights accompany him as guards.
Some young heirs and heiresses may find having guards nearby stifling, but Ishud doesn’t seem to mind much.
(If I’m alone, those idiots might just approach me.)
Currently, Ishud has a physique that can be described as muscular but not quite like a gorilla. He has a slightly more robust physique than a lean and muscular one.
However, while Ishud’s appearance may not fall into the category of a conventional handsome man, he has undeniably inherited both his parents’ genes.
As a result, for those living a life of extortion and robbery, having enough numbers might make them think they could manage something.
“Hmm… this dagger is quite good.”

“Oh, a monk. You’ve got quite a keen eye.”
The shopkeeper, who had been standing behind the counter, referred to Ishud as a monk, despite likely recognizing him as a noble heir.
The two guards were uncertain whether to assert authority, but knowing that Ishud wasn’t the type to be bothered by such terms, they ultimately didn’t intervene with the shopkeeper, who was also a blacksmith.
“Well, thank you. This one… seems to have a good soul in it.”
“Hahaha! To see through it to that extent. Well then, monk… You really like weapons, huh?”
“Yeah, I love them. So, I’d like to purchase this.”
“Alright, as long as you pay, I won’t complain.”
While Ishud is more suited for handling large weapons, he is not incapable of using smaller weapons like daggers. Thus, among his collection, there are even thin sword-like weapons such as rapiers, which don’t quite suit him.
Thus, Ishud spends the days leading up to the exam exploring the weaponry, engaging in physical activity, and reflecting on his experiences in the royal capital. Finally, the day of the exam arrives.
“Ishud-sama, from here on, you’ll be on your own.”

“Yeah, I know. You guys just relax and enjoy touring the royal capital until the exam is over.”
“We will take advantage of your kind offer.”
Upon entering the grounds of the academy where the entrance exam will take place, Ishud follows the guidance of the staff members directing him and heads toward the examination venue.
“Huh!!??… C-confirmed.”
The staff member responsible for confirming whether the child who had arrived is indeed a student candidate is checking the documents. As they read the contents on the paper, they can’t believe their eyes.
They are familiar with the Regula family.
However, for decades, there hasn’t been any news of someone from the Regula family attending the academy, and there has been no record of anyone entering the school with a concealed identity.
(Well, I’ve heard a bit about it… but wow, the atmosphere is something else~)
At first glance, Ishud appears to be of an appropriate age.
However, to those who have experienced profound and intense combat, the aura he exudes is unmistakably beyond his apparent age.
Anticipating that the next three years might be eventful, the staff members stop pondering and focus on their duties.
(…More eyes are on me now than when I entered the royal capital… Is my appearance really that unusual?)
While there are certain unconventional aspects to his appearance, overall, Ishud doesn’t stand out too much.
However, since Ishud has never participated in social circles, not a single person in the surroundings is unaware of his presence.
Most of the other exam candidates cast curious glances at him, wondering, “Who is this guy?” However, as the exams are about to begin, no one attempts to approach Ishud.
“I will now distribute the test papers. Do not turn them over until the exam starts. If you turn them over before then… you will be disqualified.”
A teacher appears in the classroom where the written test is to take place, distributing the test papers.
“You have ninety minutes. Anyone caught cheating will be immediately disqualified and escorted out of the classroom. Now then… begin!!!”
As the exam begins, the candidates simultaneously start solving the problems.
(… Memorization is still relatively easy.)
There are no problems that require deductive thinking; it’s all about whether you’ve memorized the content or not.
Ishud finishes answering the questions in less than half of the allotted time.
(I could even take a nap until the time is up… Well, let’s review just in case.)
He looks back and forth between the question paper and answer sheet, finishing the check in about ten minutes.
(…Time for a nap.)
Having decided there’s nothing else to do, Ishud makes sure his answer sheet is hidden from the glances of those sitting nearby, and then, resting his head on the desk, he actually falls asleep.
“Hey there! Put the pen down immediately! I’ll disqualify you!!”
(…Finally.)
Ten minutes before the end of the exam, Ishud is completely immersed in sleep, only waking up when the exam supervisor announces the conclusion.
Once the exam papers are collected, it’s time for a lunch break until the next test.

(I remember, as exam candidates, we can eat at the cafeteria if we pay.)
Without any acquaintances, he heads straight to the cafeteria.
Ordering three servings of meat and vegetable dishes, he finishes the meal in less than thirty minutes.
Afterwards, he moves to a suitable location for post-meal exercise and then heads to the designated place within the given time.
The second exam is a practical test.
Prior to the exam, candidates submit their preferred combat styles to the school. Teachers who specialize in those styles then assess the candidates’ abilities through simulated battles, assigning scores accordingly.
“Second candidate, step into the ring.”
“Yes, sir!”
“Hey hey, if you’re that tense, you won’t be able to give it your all. Relax a bit. You came here to pass and attend this academy, right?”
“Yes, sir!”
Effectively easing the tension among the candidates, the first student promptly begins the simulated battle with the exam supervisor teacher.
(Hmm, he’s a good teacher. He skillfully alleviated the tension among the candidates with a nice smile and words… I recall, for the practical test, the supervising teachers change a few times. If all the teachers are as strong as that one, it might actually be enjoyable to go all out.)
While the exam is not meant for enjoying combat, Ishud’s thoughts are already filled with the idea of wanting to face the strongest supervising teacher.

To anyone reading this in the future, being called “monk” is a mistranslation of what I assume to be “坊主” or “bōzu” in romanji.
Which does mean monk, but is also typically used to informally refer to younger kids, I’ve typically seen it translated as “kiddo” or something similar. Which explains why the guards think being called “monk” is disrespectful.
