Chapter 4: You’re The Right Person…Maybe

“Now? What do you mean?”

“I want you to enroll in the academy.”

“…………”

It seemed that Ishud didn’t mishear.

However, he couldn’t really understand what his father was saying.

“By academy… you mean the one nobles attend in the royal capital, right?”

“Yeah, that’s right.”

“…Just to be sure, why now?”

None of Ishud’s older brothers or sisters have ever attended the academy.

The younger siblings have no plans to attend the academy either.

By the way, neither Alba nor his siblings, and even his grandfather Alfred, attended the academy. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that they were raised in the mansion and on the battlefield.

“The academy has been suggesting that it’s about time someone from our family attends.”

“Come to think of it, the only one who attended the academy before was Grandpa Roberto, right?”

While Alfred is the accurate person to be called Grandpa, Ishud calls them both Grandpa because it’s easier.

“Yeah, that’s right. Honestly, it’s a story from many generations ago.”

“…That’s true. If you think about it normally, it’s quite an absurd story.”

“Exactly, exactly. I’m relieved that you understand. If I tried telling this to Alex or Dante, honestly, it would fall on deaf ears.”

“You’re probably right.”

Neither of them is a bad person, and they’re not lazy either.

They continue to fulfill their duties as members of the Regula family, which means facing monsters every day.

“As far as I’m concerned, you’re the one with the most sociability among the kids, Ishud.”

“…It’s nice to hear you praise me, but it’s not like I… won’t pick a fight if provoked.”

I’ve completely discarded the common sense of my past life, and if someone disrespects my family, I’m considering whether it’s okay to kill them at worst.

In such cases, I had decided not to retaliate in the same manner, but rather to leave them half-dead.

“There, you’re good at debunking, right?”

“Not exactly debunking… I’m good at putting together plausible words, but if that’s the case, wouldn’t it have been better to leave it to Dante nii-san?”

Even though it’s a story that has already passed, as he’s exceeded the age for attending school, I can’t help but think that Dante, my brother with a slim and intelligent appearance despite the imposing name, would have been more suitable.

“If he were to use words instead of trying to crush with power, in the end, it wouldn’t be a debate, but destruction.”

“Not a debate, but destruction… well, considering the intimidating aura Dante emits, I can’t entirely dismiss the image.”

As Ishud, he could engage in intricate discussions about magic, alchemy, monster ecology, and the like. Among the brothers, they got along reasonably well, understanding each other and sharing a camaraderie.

However, despite his gentlemanly appearance, Dante harbored a sharp madness that was very much in line with the eccentricity of the Regula family.

“A school, huh… It sounds interesting. However, no matter how you look at it, problems are bound to arise.”

Raised as a child of the peculiar Regula family, the idea that it’s better not to cause any trouble was something left for the stray dogs in the vicinity.

“That should probably be fine. If it turns into a fight… as long as you don’t kill, it should be okay.”

“I’m not allowed to kill, huh… The head of the school, or whatever you call them, understands that I’m a proper Regula family member, right?”

“Yeah, it’s been conveyed properly. They know you’re the child favored by the strongest and most fearsome warrior.”

“…Then, it should be okay.”

Thinking that he would continue down the same path as his brothers and sisters, he remained confident.

Ishud had no dissatisfaction with his life.

In fact, due to memories from his past life, he even thought it would be better not to bother with things like school.

However, because of those memories from his past life, the idea of attending school once again didn’t seem so bad.

Such thoughts began to faintly sprout.

“If we’re going to attend school after several generations, it seems like the perfect opportunity to show those who call us a barbaric tribe just how fearsome that tribe can be.”

“Hahaha! Truly a member of the Regula family. Well, parents always want to show off in front of their children… In my generation, I had to teach them a lesson a few times, but history tends to repeat itself.”

“I’d like to interject and say they should learn already, but it seems that’s an incurable aspect of nobility that one must accept.”

“Unfortunately, that’s how it is.”

“…I understand. I don’t know if there’s anything to learn, but for now, I’ll enjoy my time there.”

Speaking of the summer break in his past life, it meant the life of a university student.

Honestly, Ishud doesn’t feel bored in his current life, so in a sense, every day feels like summer vacation.

However, the unconventional experience of school life might be akin to a summer break in Ishud’s life.

He hasn’t really interacted with the sons of other families, and to be honest, he wonders if he truly possesses any sociability.

(Entering school means taking an entrance exam… I have to take an exam.)

If he were academically inferior to those from families who referred to themselves as barbaric tribes, what kind of expression would he make?

“Hehehe… It might be worth putting some effort into studying just for that.”

With a slightly insane smile, Ishud headed towards the mansion to consult with a servant who was well-versed in such matters.

“Hey, Ishud! Seems like Dad asked you for something troublesome!!!”

“Mikhail nii-san, don’t tell the truth with such a cheerful face.”

Mikhail, a man with a physique and boisterous personality that didn’t quite match his name, was the third son of the Regula family and Ishud’s older brother.

“Hahaha!!! Sorry, sorry! By the way, I heard you have to attend school for three years… In three years, I might catch up, huh?”

At this point, Ishud’s growth had been remarkably rapid, and overall, he surpassed Mikhail, his older brother.

However, with three years… the levels that were once difficult to surpass were gradually, if only slightly, rising steadily.

On the contrary, living in the generally safe surroundings of the royal capital, while perhaps lacking in technical expertise, it was clear that the levels would truly become sluggish.

“Ugh… It wouldn’t be surprising if that happened. Haa~ I completely forgot about that possibility~”

He didn’t have the mentality of needing to be the best among his siblings. However, losing to someone he had always surpassed would trigger an explosion of frustration.

Concerned about such a future, Ishud diligently prepared for the written exams as planned. However, he invested even more effort into practical combat. As a result, in less than a year before heading to the royal capital, he raised his level at an unusual speed, creating a sense of mental composure.

  1. Refreshing and interesting to see an MC that’s not adverse to standing up for themselves instead of trying to stay the same as their previous life (of complacency).
