Chapter 186: “Extra Edition: Cyclone War Chronicles (From the Historical Records of the Reisenga Territory)”

This is a story about a certain incident that occurred in the Reisenga territory.

It all began when General Reisenga decided to clean his room—

“Good grief. ‘Cleaning robots’ are truly convenient things!”

This was General Reisenga’s private room.

Nodding in approval as he watched the “spherical cleaning robot” roll around, General Reisenga looked pleased.

The “cleaning robot” was an item created by Thor for searching magical beasts.

Originally, it was designed to locate magical beasts—which were considered “trash” to the Hero—but Thor had weakened its abilities and modified it to specialize in cleaning rooms.

As a test, it was currently being used in General Reisenga’s mansion.

“You just leave it there, and it picks up dust and debris from the room. The ‘cleaning robot’ has a ‘miniature storage compartment’ function, so it can absorb a lot without issue. It doesn’t suck in living things like demi-humans or humans. It even avoids dangerous items… It really is an amazing thing.”

Not to be outdone, he figured he should clean up his room as well.

—That was what Reisenga found himself thinking.

In truth, Reisenga’s room was a mess.

Especially with the sheer number of documents. As a military man, he wasn’t fond of paperwork.

Approved documents had been sent off to the civil officials, but copies and unprocessed ones had piled up.

So, his desk had become a mountain of parchment.

“These are already processed. These ones… are to be passed on to Kelve. I’ll give them to the civil officer later. These are… hmm?”

Reisenga’s eyes widened.

Among the piles of documents was an old letter.

“…Isn’t this a love letter I sent to my late wife? This is bad, very bad. Hide it, hide it now!”

In a fluster, Reisenga stuffed the letter into a drawer in his desk.

As for the documents, he sorted them into “processed” and “unprocessed” piles and took a breath, feeling like he had cleaned enough for the moment.

“All right. That’s done, but it seems the ‘cleaning robot’ isn’t finished yet.”

Roll roll. Clatter clatter.

The “spherical cleaning robot” was still continuing its cleaning work.

Its thoroughness was appreciated, but it seemed a bit… slow.

“…Couldn’t it move just a little faster?”

General Reisenga was a seasoned warrior.

Since childhood, he had led troops in subjugating magical beasts.

And in magical beast subjugation, speed is crucial.

If you don’t approach quickly, the beasts escape.

If you’re slow to act, you risk getting surrounded by a horde of them.

To someone like Reisenga, the pace of the “cleaning robot” was frustrating.

“Perhaps I could tinker with it a little.”

Reisenga approached the “cleaning robot” and picked it up.

Splitting the spherical body in two revealed a slot for inserting magic stones.

Inside was a single wind-element magic stone.

The beast-detection version of the “cleaning robot” required stones of all attributes, but this one was for cleaning only.

A wind magic stone was sufficient.

Therefore—

“There’s still room in the magic stone compartment. If I add more stones here, wouldn’t it be able to clean faster?”

Suddenly struck with inspiration, Reisenga took out more wind magic stones he had in the room.

He began inserting them into the robot’s magic stone compartment.

Two… three… Still more could fit. It looked like it could hold about four.

No—if he packed in smaller stones, it could probably hold ten.

Thor had once said:

“Chancellor-sama always gives me inspiration and new perspectives.”

There was no way Reisenga could lose to his colleague Kelve.

He had to discover “inspiration” and a “new perspective” for Thor’s sake.

“Experimenting with magical items on Thor’s behalf is the duty of a father-in-law. Yes, indeed.”

Though not yet officially a father-in-law, he would be someday.

Or rather, from Reisenga’s point of view, Thor already felt like a son-in-law.

If risking danger could let him be a father-in-law to be proud of, it was worth it.

If he could give Thor a hint to improve the “cleaning robot,” there was no reason to hesitate—

“All right. This should do. If I pour in some magic power to activate it… Hm? It’s not closing easily.”

Perhaps he had inserted too many magic stones.

Reisenga pressed down on the lid of the spherical device, giving it a firm push.

After confirming it had closed—just barely—he gave it a few light pats, just in case. Then gently stroked it several times—

“Okay, seems like there’s no issue.”

One more time: pat pat pat.

After another gentle stroke—Reisenga suddenly remembered his late wife.

His wife, who had passed away right after giving birth to Agnis, loved to touch people’s heads.

Just like this—pat pat pat—she would gently pat and stroke Reisenga and Agnis’ heads. Agnis might not remember, but Reisenga had told her the story many times.

“Heh. How nostalgic. I’ve gone and remembered all that… because I did something as out-of-character as cleaning.”

With a gentle smile, Reisenga touched the “cleaning robot.”

He infused it with magic to activate it—click.

However—

“…Hm?”

Click click, click.

“It’s not moving. Don’t tell me… I broke it?”

Shiver shiver, shiver shiver.

“Oh! It’s moving! Good, good.”

Whirrrrr. Whirrrrr.

“Yes, yes, it’s spinning now. It’s starting to suck in air. With this—”

……BWOoooooooom.

……BWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM.

BWUUUUUUUUOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!

“W-Wait, isn’t the wind too strong!? H-Hey. Wait a moment—!!”

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH!!

A violent storm swirled through Reisenga’s room.

Centered on the rapidly spinning “spherical cleaning robot,” a massive air current formed, sucking up everything around it one after another.

“W-What is this storm!? The ‘cleaning robot’ has power like this!?”

Reisenga recalled Thor’s words.

If he remembered correctly, the cleaning robot for the room had been enhanced with a “cyclone function” from the Heroic World—or so Thor had said.

Cyclone. That was, quite literally, a violent storm. Or even a typhoon.

To think it actually had such a hidden ability…

—A few days earlier, at Thor’s workshop—

“I heard that robots from the Heroic World can awaken.”

“Awaken?”

“Yeah. I found a piece of paper in the warehouse that said something like that.”

“So that’s why Thor-sama installed an awakening function in the ‘Cyclone Cleaning Robot’?”

“For emergencies, yeah. But it’s dangerous, so I made sure it only activates through a ‘hidden command.’”

“You have to say, ‘Awaken awaken, awaken right now,’ right?”

“That’s right. And you also have to insert ten times the usual amount of magic stones.”

“You even installed a physical safety mechanism, didn’t you?”

“Yeah. You have to tap it like this—‘pon pon, popon’—and then pet it. That completes the ‘hidden command.’ That action was Mabel’s idea, right?”

“Yes. I once heard Agins-sama say that being treated like that helps her calm down.”

“Movements like that are easy to remember, so it’s great.”

“And with all these precautions, it won’t accidentally activate.”

“It’s reassuring.” “Very reassuring~”

Neither Thor nor Mabel could have imagined what would happen next.

That Reisenga, upon finding an old love letter to his late wife, would shout “Hide it, hide it, hide it right now!”—and that the cleaning robot would interpret that as “Kakusei, kakusei, ima sugu kakusei” (“Awaken, awaken, awaken right now”).

That it would recognize the phrase as the activation keyword: “Awaken awaken, awaken right now.”

That Reisenga would carelessly insert ten times the usual number of magic stones.

That, on top of that, he would lovingly pat and stroke the robot—just as he used to do for his late wife.

And as a result, the robot’s “Awakened Cyclone Mode” would activate—

This cleaning robot was also an item from the Heroic World. It contained tremendous power.

Its true strength was usually suppressed by reducing the amount of magic stones it received.

Reisenga, however, had unknowingly given it a large amount of magic stones and triggered the hidden command—

—Present time. From Reisenga’s perspective—

“Wh-What in the world! At this rate—!”

A violent windstorm swirled through the room.

Perhaps because it was programmed not to suck in living beings, Reisenga himself was unaffected.

But he couldn’t leave things as they were. He had to stop it.

With that in mind, Reisenga stepped toward the cleaning robot.

But in the next moment—a gust lifted the furniture into the air.

—A chair. A table. A desk. A closet.

Heavy objects that normally wouldn’t fly were now hurtling toward Reisenga.

“Don’t underestimate the Flame General! This is nothing!!”

Reisenga’s fist smashed the incoming desk.

The desk was shattered with ease, and its contents scattered into the air.

Papers, documents, and parchments swirled upward in a massive flurry.

Seeing them, Reisenga’s face turned pale.

“S-Stop! Those are documents related to the trading post’s operations!”

Whirrr. Roll. Whoosh.

The documents were sucked into the cleaning robot.

“S-Stop it! That’s the draft of the speech Agnis will read at her wedding someday!”

Whirrr. Roll. Whoosh.

The speech draft was sucked in!

“Th-That’s—! That’s the love letter I wrote to my late wife! Stop. Please stooooppppp!”

Reisenga’s desperate scream echoed as the old love letter was sucked into the cleaning robot.

Then, the closet was destroyed, and his formal general’s uniform, his party attire, and the custom-made outfit he’d planned to wear to Agnis’s wedding all vanished.

Everything in the room was being devoured by the rampaging cleaning robot.

The robot had a built-in “Ultra-Compact Storage Unit.”

Even after swallowing the entire contents of a room, it still had space to spare.

Then the spherical cleaning robot began to float.

Still in cyclone mode, it was trying to leave the room.

Reisenga’s face turned blue.

If that cleaning robot made it outside, it would be a disaster.

In the name of the Flame General, he had to stop it!

“I have no choice but to destroy it by force! Take this—the flame of Reisenga, Flame General!”

“Father? What in the world is all this commotion about?”

The door opened, and Agnis’s voice came through.

In the instant Reisenga reflexively turned toward her—

BOOOOOM!

The bed struck him squarely.

Reisenga was sent flying by the impact, slamming into the wall—

“…Agnis. Stop that thing… but don’t look inside it. Never. I mean it…”

“F-Father──!”

As Agnis cried out, Reisenga lost consciousness.

The rampage of the “Cleaning Robot” would not stop.

The awakened “Cleaning Robot” had been given the mission: “to suck up everything in the room with its cyclone.” That feature was intended to store valuables inside whenever a magical beast appeared.

By threatening the beast with its powerful cyclone, it could safely store important items. That way, those items would not be lost to the beast’s attacks. The user could then evacuate or fight without worry.

Afterward, it would unleash the storm to stop the monster’s movements. That was the concept behind its creation.

That’s why the “Cleaning Robot” showed no mercy. Equipped with a larger-than-normal storage space, it still had plenty of room left even after sucking up everything in Reisenga’s room. It had to keep absorbing more and more—until it reached its limit. As a golem, the awakened “Cleaning Robot” made that decision.

And then, it began to move outside the room.

“Ahh! Agnis’s clothes!? W-Wait! I can’t move properly dressed like this…”

—First, strip Agnis of her clothes to neutralize her combat abilities.

“It absorbed our flames!? W-What is this thing!?”

—The flames from Reisenga’s soldiers interfered with cleaning, so the robot absorbed them too.

“Don’t let it get outside! Disassemble it by force! Spill everything inside it out!!”

“““Ooooooh!!”””

Faced with this unexpected and formidable enemy, the soldiers of Reisenga’s domain roared with fury. However—

“W-Wait! You don’t need to spill the contents! Once you disassemble it, burn it! Got it? Burn it so not even ash remains! This is an order from Flame General Reisenga!!”

“…Father.”

“N-No, Agnis. I only wanted to upgrade the ‘Cleaning Robot’…”

“Father may have… accidentally awakened it…”

“Awakened it?”

“Thor Canaan-sama said it before. Sometimes the Cleaning Robot awakens in emergencies.”

“How do we stop it?”

“It will automatically shut down in a few minutes, and then… it’ll spill everything inside.”

“It’ll spill everything!?”

“Yeah, it’s designed so anyone can check if the contents are still intact.”

“Anyone can check!?”

“…Father!?”

“U-Uuuuuugh…”

“…F-Father? Your face is pale. What’s wrong!?”

“N-No! It’s not like I stored anything embarrassing! R-Really! I just can’t let Thor-sama go through trouble because of my failure… That would be a disgrace to the name of Flame General!!”

“Y-You’re right. We can’t let Thor Canaan-sama be inconvenienced by our family matters!”

Now fully armored, Reisenga stood beside Agnis, who wore fireproof armor. The soldiers of Reisenga’s domain had steeled their resolve against the formidable foe.

And before their eyes was a towering cyclone that reached into the sky.

It was the spherical Cleaning Robot, now finally outside.

They had to stop it. Before it ran out of magic stones and shut down. If it stopped functioning and spilled its contents… they’d all be in big trouble.

Not just Reisenga— Even Agnis and the soldiers had things they didn’t want anyone to see, now stored inside the Cleaning Robot.

“For the pride of Reisenga Domain!”

“So Thor Canaan-sama won’t get mad!”

“““Charge──!!”””

“““““Uooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!”””””

It was the beginning of a battle that would later be known as the “Cyclone War Chronicles.”

Later, the Demon Lord Rukie would issue a strict order: “Magic stones must be used according to proper dosage and instructions.”

And a new “Demon Lord Territory User Support Unit” trained under alchemist Thor would be formed—

—But that is a story for another time.
