Just another Isekai Lover~

Chapter 72: Impromptu Wolf Pack ① – Why?

The timeline returns to when Wof became a Seeker and received his designated request.

The far north of the continent. The Great Prosphora Mountains.

Midway up the mountains stood a massive structure that looked like a cracked egg.

Inside the structure stood enormous white, blue, and red triangular pillars.

At the center of the pillars floated a massive black metallic ring, with a white dome at its center.

That white dome—this was the Grand Guild, the headquarters of the Seeker’s Guild.

Inside the dome, in the Grand Guild Master’s office:

Alhazard Abramelin had just finished a communication with the guild in Hydrangea.

A dignified dark-skinned woman in a black coat traced with white lines, standing beside him, asked:

“Grand Guild Master, may I speak?”

“What is it?”

“Regarding your attitude toward the witch’s apprentice earlier—what was that about?”

“Do you object?”

“Yes. Promoting him and issuing a designated request is quite out of character.”

“Originally, special exceptions were allowed for Grade III. There’s nothing strange about promoting her to Grade V.”

“Even so, isn’t that designated request excessive?”

Alhazard Abramelin narrowed his eyes.

“Do you really think a thirteen-year-old witch’s apprentice can accomplish what I gave up on in my youth?”

“Then—do you, Grand Guild Master, believe it to be impossible?”

“I do.”

“Then why issue such a request?”

“A Seeker is not merely one who explores dungeons, but one who explores life itself. Even if it’s impossible, this request can become a guidepost in his journey through life.”

“So you gave him something with meaning?”

“I simply presented a path to a young, capable Seeker.”

“Grand Guild Master… it may come across as rather cruel.”

At those words, Alhazard Abramelin smiled.

“That’s true.”

“Also, you said it’s impossible. Why exactly is that?”

“…‘Impossible’ might not be the right word. There should be a chance. But it’s still correct to say it’s impossible—for now. Because… the necessary parts are missing.”

“Parts?”

“And no one knows where they are.”

Alhazard Abramelin said quietly.

The Day of Alhazard Abramelin’s Designated Request Challenge

First, they went to the Seeker’s Guild to formally accept the request.

Aranz was absent. The one who handled them was the same fairial receptionist.

From there, the Impromptu Wolf Pack headed toward the dungeon garbage site in town.

They quickly moved to a secluded area of the dump.

Axe and Liv looked around, impressed by the massive amount of garbage.

“Alright then, please, Mineha-san.”

I handed Mineha a seal resembling a card.

She entered the central garbage mound and fitted the seal into a circular depression at the center.

There was a small rumble, and the stone floor split open.

A staircase leading down appeared. We nodded at one another and began our descent.

As we went down, the stone floor above slowly closed.

Liv conjured an orb of light. In the darkness, we saw faded blue-green floors and walls.

It looked like a pale emerald. Axe muttered:

“What is this place?”

“Seems to be a holy chamber.”

“A holy room, huh? Pretty beat-up for that.”

“We’re still in the passage.”

“…Mhm.”

We proceeded with caution, illuminated by the light orb.

Liv led the group, Axe brought up the rear, I was in the middle, and Mineha was perched on my shoulder.

Suddenly, Mineha spoke.

“I wonder what floor this place is on.”

“It’s definitely not between the first and second floors.”

“Why not?”

“…Probably… based on location… it’s not supposed to be accessible… maybe it even cuts through the third or fourth floors…”

“So it’s a hidden area.”

“Absolutely outrageous.”

“…Something’s here.”

It was a black door. Axe lightly tapped the back of it.

“Metal.”

“Will it open?”

“Let’s try. Ngh… grrrnghh…”

Axe pushed against it with his hand—it opened slowly.

“I’ll help.”

“…Liv too.”

The three of them pushed together. It opened into a small space the color of bronze.

At the center was a black pillar, and in the back stood a white altar.

“Looks like this is the holy chamber.”

“…There’s writing over there.”

A stone tablet was placed atop the white altar. It bore inscriptions in ancient script.

“Let’s see… it says, ‘Offer the sacred egg to the altar of the holy chamber.’”

I looked at the altar.

On it was a small pedestal, shaped to hold an egg.

So that’s where it goes.

“Sacred egg?”

“Hey, could this be related to the ‘Three Eggs of Hayan’?”

“…Three eggs? What’s that?”

“A nursery rhyme. Come to think of it, this request was related to Hayan. Brings back memories—my mom used to sing it. So maybe… the sacred egg refers to the legendary Elixir’s divine egg. But offering that? No way we have one of those.”

“…Elixir’s… egg…?”

“Yeah, the egg from that fairy tale that supposedly produces infinite elixir.”

“There really was an egg with elixir in it. But it didn’t produce infinite amounts. There’s supposedly an original, but no one knows where it is.”

“…Mhm… we’re stuck.”

“Tch. Game over already? Wish we at least had a lead.”

“I’ll start searching.”

Mineha-san stepped away from my shoulder.

Everyone looked disappointed, the mood shifting toward giving up.

Yeah…
Of course.
No one would expect something like that to be necessary.

I see. This really is impossible.
Even for Alhazard Abramelin, it’s clear now—it couldn’t be done.

So, it was all based on the assumption that someone already had the egg?
Maybe there’s another tower somewhere with information about the egg?

Well, in any case—
I reached into the depths of my pouch and took out the egg.

Then—I placed the Elixir’s Sacred Egg on the altar’s pedestal.

Immediately, the black pillar began to glow, splitting into top and bottom sections and spinning.

“Wh-What the…?”

“What!?”

“Hm… boy… that egg is…”

“Wof…?”

Mineha-san’s trembling expression and piercing gaze struck right into me.

“……”

“Hey, look at that!”

When the pillar disappeared, something was floating there.

It was long and thin, with a gem embedded in the center—almost like a key.

Axe-san picked it up. When he handed it to me, he noticed the egg.

“Wha—! That’s… no way… it can’t be real…”

“……”

I held the egg in my hand.
At that moment, part of the wall to the left slid open, revealing a new passageway.

That meant—we were meant to continue forward.

“Hey, Wof.”

The one who called my name—Mineha-san—had returned to her full, adult size.

Axe-san and Liv-san said nothing, and I looked up at the now-tall Mineha.

“Hey, Wof. That egg—what is it?”

“It’s the Elixir’s Sacred Egg.”

“No way… then, Rel was saved because of that… so that’s what it was.”

“Hmm… I thought so.”

For some reason, Axe-san and Liv-san seemed convinced.

Well, I kind of understood why. I had been giving out small vials of it after all.

Mineha-san’s voice trembled as she spoke.

“Why do you have that?”

“…I found it in the garbage dump.”

“That wasn’t just recently—was it? You had it even before we met, didn’t you?”

“…Yes.”

“So you’ve been hiding it from me all this time?”

As she spoke, Mineha-san stared into me.

“…H-Hey.”

“…It’s fine. Let’s just keep going.”

Mineha-san turned away from me, closing her eyes as if to shut me out.

“……”

She moved on ahead. Axe-san followed her.

I couldn’t say anything. I couldn’t do anything.

The look Mineha-san gave me back then wasn’t one of anger…
It was just—deeply sad.

“…Boy… Let’s go.”

“Yeah.”

I tucked the egg back into the depths of my pouch.
