Chapter 49: Tomb of Death ⑧ – Genesis Combination

The three Red Puppets that had their blades pointed at us were engulfed in black flames and vanished.

What just happened…? Agaro-san slowly stood up.

His red hair had grown longer, and the black horns had thickened, lengthened, and split into four branches.

But they hadn’t grown out of control—they had stopped at a manageable length.

One of his eyes now burned with a fiery red light.

In his hand, the Flame Tongue had grown longer and was now engulfed in pitch-black flames.

A tongue of black fire.

“What… what’s happening…?”

“You’ve been running your mouth non-stop, you damn skeleton bastard!”

Looking irritated, Agaro-san raised the Flame Tongue and slashed at Hagan.

“Don’t mock me, you fool!”

Hagan crossed two blades of red wind and released them.

The vast red wind ripped through the earth like a gale that brought death.

But that red storm of death was consumed by the black flames that spread to engulf it.

“ORAAAAHHH!!”

The Flame Tongue’s blade closed in on Hagan’s head.

“Nugh!?”

Hagan created dozens of layers of red wind as a shield to block the Flame Tongue.

But it was no use. It shattered easily.

With a growl, Hagan leapt back and summoned a large scythe made of red wind, gripping it with both hands.

“Don’t run away, you damn king!!”

Agaro-san charged in with incredible ferocity.

“This can’t be…!”

Hagan blocked the charge with his scythe.

But then Agaro-san unleashed a wild, beast-like barrage of attacks. Eventually, the scythe was burned and snapped.

“―――Annihilation Blade: Karma―――”

In the blink of an eye, Agaro-san cleaved Hagan in two with the Flame Tongue.

“GUOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!”

Split in half, Hagan let out a scream and vanished in a burst of black flames.

Hagan was defeated.

Then Agaro-san laughed triumphantly and collapsed on the spot.

“Agaro-san!?”

Damn it, my body won’t move!? I thought I’d be able to move once Hagan was defeated, but I was wrong.

Only the witch could move. She approached Agaro-san to check on him.

“Goodness gracious, what a reckless man.”

The witch smiled wryly and poured something over Agaro-san. Some kind of liquid?

Before our eyes, his hair shortened, and the black horns returned to their original size.

“Witch… Is Agaro-san…?”

“He’s fine, he’s fine. It was a bit reckless, but this much won’t cost him his life.”

“This much…?”

“Well, this drunkard can rest now. Wof-boy, the real battle begins here.”

“The real battle?”

“Huh?”

“Woof?”

We just beat him—so why?

The witch looked down at me.

“Now then, Wof-boy. Do you know why you can’t move?”

“Not a clue.”

“Why can’t I move?”

“Yes, yes. That’s because—ah, is time up already?”

“Fuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhu… Foolish.”

Hagan’s voice echoed from the void. The red wind gathered and formed his body.

“Hagan…!?”

“Ah, as I suspected, you became the wind. Or is it some kind of relic or legendary item?”

So he turned into wind and escaped.

This isn’t some resurrection or revival trick—it must be because he’s undead, immortal.

Yes, becoming the wind makes the most sense… Wait, what does “natural” even mean?

“Foolish. I was a bit surprised, but it is indeed power beyond human limits. Know the fate of fools. I will not underestimate you again.”

Hagan’s body swelled and transformed.

His arms increased to four, and his yellow garments transformed into something like a scarf and hood.

His skeletal body was fully exposed, and he now had additional ungulate legs.

He looked vaguely like Saturnus.

Only the scar on his skull remained. In its hollow center floated a dimly glowing red orb.

Red wind swirled and formed into a scythe.

“I am the Wind of Death. The Wind that Carries Death. I am Hagan, the King who Rules the Wind of Death.”

He looked like a bizarre reaper in his new form.

“My, my. So this is your third form?”

“Foolish witch.”

Hagan’s hand turned into wind and grabbed the witch by the neck.

“Urgh…!?”

With his other hand, he grabbed Agaro-san by the throat and lifted them both.

“Witch! Agaro-san!”

The witch went limp.

“GRRRRRRRRRR!! Let them go!!”

Juicy-san roared, her hair, ears, and tail turning pure white as she stood up.

“Oh? That form… I remember it.”

It was the pseudo-divine relic [Fenrir]—a divine white wolf of majestic beauty.

With moist violet eyes, she glared at Hagan.

“Grrrrrr… I will not forgive you.”

“A pseudo-divine incarnate of the white divine wolf… Tasan. Foolish. That power has a time limit.”

Five minutes. With a one-day cooldown.

“Grrrr… I’ll kill you before that.”

“Foolish Tasan woman. Have you forgotten your hostages?”

Juicy-san moved. In an instant, she closed the distance to Hagan.

Before he could react, she severed both of his bony arms with her claws, grabbed the witch and Agaro-san, and leapt back.

Just before that, Hagan summoned a Red Puppet armed with a spear of red wind.

The puppet pointed the spearhead at my back.

“…………”

Once again, he used the same move.

I was completely underestimated by Hagan.

And honestly, he didn’t act very kingly.

He’s no better than Piece. He’s more suited to being a village chief.

But still, more importantly, I was ashamed of myself—for being frozen in place while the witch and Agaro-san were in danger.

Deeply ashamed.

I had been stunned by Agaro-san’s actions. Now I was hesitating, haunted by my earlier reckless behavior.

None of those are valid excuses.

I still don’t know why I couldn’t move—but I do now know how I can move.

Juicy-san swiftly reclaimed the two of them.

Hagan was surprised, but then grinned. Of course—he still had me as a hostage. No, had, past tense.

“Foolish. Even if you reclaimed those two, did you forget about the pitiful and fragile fool on this side who can’t move at all under my wind?”

“Waf! Wan! Wof-sama!?”

The wind? So that’s it? Wait—what does that mean exactly? Maybe it’s because I touched the red wind? If you’re fully exposed to it, this is what happens?

“This is the fate of a fool. Become a sacrifice to death.”

“Wawan! Wof-sama!!!”

The Red Puppet thrust its spear of red wind at me with force—but the tip disappeared before it could reach me.

“What…?”

Then the Red Puppet vanished entirely.

“Waf? Wof-sama?”

“The Red Puppet disappeared…? Impossible.”

Hagan couldn’t comprehend what had happened. He was full of openings.

I pushed myself up from lying face-down, raised a hand, and spoke.

“Phantasmagoria.”

Countless Vanish spells swarmed Hagan in a surprise attack.

“NUOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH!?”

Hagan defended with the red wind. A shield of flowing wind blocked the barrage of Vanish spells.

“…”

“Do not mock meeeeeee!!!”

Hagan spread his four arms wide, shattering the red wind’s defensive wall. I narrowly dodged it.

I quickly stood up and reached to draw Agaro-san’s knife—

“Na!”

“Daga!?”

—only for Daga to jump into my hand on its own. Then it transformed. Still simple and without a sword guard, it became more blade-like, the edge extending.

“Don’t screw with me! What’s with that form!? Purple hair and eyes… Unforgivable. Fool! Fool! FOOL! FOOL FOOL FOOL FOOLFOOLFOOLFOOL YOU FOOOOOOLLLLL!!!!”

Hagan, overcome with rage, swung his red wind scythe.

I dodged calmly, carefully.

“FoolfoolfoolfoolfoolfoolfoolfoolfoolfoolfoolfoolfoolfoolfoolfoolfoolfoolfoolfoolfoolfoolfoolfoolfoolfoolfoolfoolAAAAHHHHH!!”

The scythe was swung wildly, sending red wind blades flying in all directions.

I moved through them using the horizontal and vertical steps I refined through the witch’s training.

As I evaded, I thought—this feels like one of those “die-a-lot” games from my past life.

Come to think of it, Hagan’s strange forms and attacks resembled those too.

But that doesn’t mean this world is a game.

My past life’s memories included similar fantasy worlds.

This world is harsh and cruel.

The value of life here is devastatingly low. Death is always near, walking hand in hand with life.

Even with memories from a past life, it doesn’t help much.

But even so—it’s fun, precious, warm… filled with hope.

Yes, always overflowing with hope.

I continued dodging, drawing closer to Hagan.

“Na!”

“Huh? You want to use Vanish?”

“Na!”

“You sure?”

“Na!”

“Got it. Daga! Let’s go!”

“Na!”

I enchanted the Daga Knife with Banish.

Its blade glowed brightly with a radiant violet light. I rushed in at once.

“FOOL!!!”

“TAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!”

I dodged, rolled, deflected, canceled the red wind flurry—and arrived right before him.

“Foolishness. Your attack will not reach me, fool!”

Hagan formed a barrier of red wind. Just as planned.

I leaped high, just like Agaro-san, and swung the Daga Knife down.

I put everything into that one strike.

“VANISH SLASH!!!”

The knife cut only through the red wind barrier.

In the same instant, a single shimmering arrow flew through and struck the cracked skull deep within Hagan.

It pierced the murky red glowing orb inside.

“GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!?”

Hagan screamed in agony as the murky red orb shattered and burst apart.

“FOOOOOLSFOOOOOOLSSSSSTUPIDSTUPIDSTUPIDSTUUUUUUPIDDDDDDDDDD!!!”

Immediately, Hagan crumbled—no longer wind, but ash.

That ash scattered in the breeze, like white flower petals.

This time, for real, I defeated Hagan, King of the Wind of Death.

“…Phew.”

I let out a breath. Then noticed the Daga Knife, now limp and exhausted.

Heh—wait, my gauntlet?!

The color scheme of the [Gauntlet of Silent Sanctity] remained the same, but its shape had subtly changed.

And it was now asymmetrical.

The right side split down the middle and looked like it was fastened with a metallic ring.

The left side extended all the way up to my shoulder.

Could this be because I became [Generous]? Is this kind of change even possible?

“…Ah, so this is it. This must be the [Gauntlet of Silent Divinity].”

Juicy-san approached with her bow slung over her back.

She stopped. What’s wrong? I was ready for her to leap at me.

“U-um, um… Wof-sama. Are you… really Wof-sama?”

“Yes. It’s me.”

Ah, right. I have purple hair and purple eyes now.

I’m in my [Generous] form. Plus, I had been using [Silent One] as well.

But Juicy-san doesn’t know any of that.

“Um, wan… Is that form of yours [Generous], Wof-sama?”

“…Yes, it is.”

“U-um, um, Wof-sama! I have a new relic now! It’s called [Genesis Combination]!”

I knew it.

If we were fully synchronized, then she must have the same relic too.

I recall when I first became [Generous]—I heard a voice resonate in my soul:

[Genesis Combination: Pseudo-God Relic activation. Only usable while wearing the Gauntlet of Silent Divinity: Synchronizes two pseudo-divine users perfectly, allowing flawless combination attacks. Cooldown: 7 days.]

Using this, Juicy-san and I achieved perfect synchronization and were able to defeat Hagan.

That murky red glowing orb in Hagan’s skull had really caught my attention.

That was likely his core.

I figured that if we destroyed it, we could defeat him.

The strategy was simple.

First, I used [Genesis Combination] to perfectly sync with Juicy-san.

I would break through the red wind’s barrier, and in that brief opening, Juicy-san would shoot the core with her bow.

It was basically the same strategy we used against the Cursed Slime.

Except this time, there were only two of us.

However, if you just attacked Hagan normally, he would turn into red wind.

And his core would too. So we had to strike while it was materialized.

Also, that red wind barrier was strong.

Even [Phantasmagoria] couldn’t penetrate it.

[Arm of the Outer Cosmos] is great for physical strikes.

But against the undead, red wind either does little damage or finishes them off, causing them to become wind.

So we had no choice but to cut through the red wind barrier.

I was even prepared to sacrifice Agaro-san’s knife to do it.

Then, Daga appeared on its own—and transformed.

It even communicated telepathically, telling me to enchant it with [Vanish]. But I hesitated.

I remembered that [Vanish] hadn’t worked on Daga before.

Even so, enchanting the Daga Knife with [Vanish] was a gamble.

I’m glad it succeeded. I was able to cut the red wind barrier cleanly.

I was extremely careful not to hit Hagan himself—only the red wind barrier.

That level of precision was thanks to [Silent One]. For some reason, I didn’t have [Silent Move].

After that, Juicy-san fired an elixir-coated arrow from her bow.

With the strength of [Fenrir], the arrow flew like a ray of light.

She pierced the core with absolute, perfect timing.

This victory was only possible because of the [Genesis Combination] relic.

But the one who contributed the most wasn’t me or Juicy-san.

“U-um, um, Wof-sama! Wof-sama! Wan! Wawan! Wan-wan!”

“Juicy-san, calm down! Please, calm down!”

She charged at me in her [Fenrir] form, but I’m [Generous] now.

I caught her without issue—but she was still hyper and excited. Just like a dog.

I somehow managed to calm her down and patted her head gently.

Then—

“…What the heck’s with you two…? Is this that new transformation trend or something…?”

The real MVP, Agaro-san, had woken up—and said something completely out of it.
