Chapter 70: The Silent One (10)

The Relic Plate—it came back to me.

Now, once we get out of here, I’ll have to seriously think about what to do next.

There’s only so much I can keep secret by myself.
Fortunately, I already shared information about the Relic Plate, so that’s not a problem.

Later, I casually asked Mineha-san if she wanted to try using it after all.
She just gave me a cold stare and ignored me.

…Sorry.

For now, I guess I should just relax.

We’ve finally reached a place where we can truly rest—both in body and mind.
Hoss-san assured us that this area is safe. I appreciate that.

It’s been decided that we’ll leave the day after tomorrow, so we’re all just resting for now.

Taking it easy.

It really feels like everything is over.

But as they say, “The journey isn’t over until you get home.” I can’t afford to let my guard down.

A school trip, huh?

I remember a mountain climbing trip from my past life.

At first, it was fun.
The lunch I packed was delicious.

But then, on the way down… a sudden thunderstorm hit.
The rain was so heavy we could barely see ahead.

No one spoke. We just descended the mountain in silence—it felt like some kind of military retreat in a blizzard.

The trail became a nightmare.
Wet volcanic ash made it impossible to walk properly.
A small ditch beside us turned into a raging river, sweeping away abandoned huts one by one.

That was the first time in my life I truly felt in danger.

“…Wait, what the hell am I thinking about?”

I’m such an idiot.

Right now, all we need to do is get out of here.
That’s it. Just get out.

“…This is actually pretty good.”

Mineha-san was now eating the mixed-meat soup.

She must’ve really liked it—despite her words, she kept emptying bowl after bowl.

For her size, it was a mountain of food.
Yet, one after another, they vanished without a trace.

I don’t think it’s physically possible for food to disappear that fast…

“That’s… impressive.”

“She’s just like my 10th sister.”

…Seriously, how many talented sisters does Rell-san have?

“It makes me happy when people eat a lot.”

“You’re pretty good at this. I’ve gotta admit, I’m impressed.”

Hoss-san beamed with pride as Mineha-san praised him.

When we first entered this dungeon, I never imagined I’d witness a scene like this.

It’s nice—this slow, peaceful life.

Lately, my life plan has gone completely off the rails.
It feels like someone tossed out the blueprint and did a total overhaul.

What even is my Dungeon Life at this point?

No, no. I need to relax.

Ahh, this tea is good.
I took a sip from my cup, savoring the warmth.

I made this tea myself.

Hoss-san found dried tea leaves in a storage room in the Western Temple District.

Apparently, the temple storage held all kinds of food, spices, and even alcohol.

I was worried about how fresh everything was, but…

“Items in a dungeon stay fresh indefinitely as long as they aren’t consumed.”

“Wait, really?”

I’d never heard that before.

Apparently, it’s not uncommon for dungeons to have entire towns or villages inside them.

But a storage full of fresh ingredients? That’s rare.
Some nobles and merchants even put out requests to collect old, rare foods from dungeons.

“So it’s safe to eat, huh?”

“Yep. No worries there.”

A dungeon where food never spoils—it’s like time is frozen.

I guess I’ll just chalk it up to “mysterious dungeon magic” and move on.

Anyway, about the dried tea leaves from the storage room…

I blended them myself using the crescent-shaped mixing bowl.

Essentially, I made a custom blend.

This came from a mixing guide the Witch gave me.

The very first entry in the guide simply said:

“Tea.”

It then listed various tea recipes and blending techniques.

At first, I thought,
“Oh, so tea was just the Witch’s personal obsession at the time?”

But when I actually tried making it, I realized—

It’s the perfect way to practice mixing.

Tea is essentially medicine.
And unlike potions, it’s hard to mess up badly.

Even if you fail, it’s easy to adjust the blend.

Plus, the flavor changes drastically depending on the ratios of the tea leaves.

Mixing tea is exactly like mixing potions.

No—this is probably the absolute foundation of potion-making.

It was a valuable lesson.
I should thank the Witch for this guide.

Oh, right—there were tiny black beans in the storage room too.

Probably cacao or coffee beans.

Coffee… maybe I should try making some.

I already know how.

“I’m back.”

Axe and Alexander, who had gone to investigate the Grand Temple, had returned.

“Welcome back. That was quick. Did you find anything?”

As I handed Axe some tea, he let out a sigh.

“Nothing. Seriously, there are no monsters in this place.”

“And yet, there’s plenty of food here.”

The storage rooms contain salted and dried meat. There’s also an abundance of dried goods.
I also heard that mushrooms and herbs grow in clusters.

And then there’s the water.
A nearby spring continues to flow without stopping.

There are still untouched storage rooms in the temple district, so there’s no worry about food.
We’re leaving tomorrow and never coming back, but we won’t have to worry about supplies.

“No treasure either?”

“We searched all over, but… before that, the temple is just too big. Way too big.”

“We haven’t even finished exploring all of it yet,” Alexander added.

“It’s that big?”

“Huge.”

Axe confirmed.

“Yeah. But at least we’ve figured out what this Grand Temple is.”

“What god was it dedicated to? Harves, as expected?”

“Nope. Generas.”

Axe took a big gulp of his tea.

“Huh?”

“This tea’s good. Oh, right—Wof, you probably don’t know much about Generas, do you?”

“…Wasn’t that a god from the Edda?”

A quiet tremor ran through my body—through my very soul.

Axe chuckled.

“So you do know. This temple was dedicated to Generas.”

“How did you figure that out?”

“There was a statue of Generas at the center of the Grand Temple. Alexander pointed it out, so there’s no doubt about it.”

“I see…”

That certainly sounded convincing.
Alexander took a slow puff from his pipe before speaking.

“There’s a massive door at the center of the Grand Temple. So huge, it makes you wonder if a giant was meant to open it—just looking up at it makes your neck hurt.

The thing is… that door wouldn’t open, no matter what we did.

But then, at some point… it just opened on its own.”

“What? That massive door?”

“We tried everything, but it wouldn’t budge!”

Rell and Hoss, who had been listening in, looked shocked.

“………………”

…Could it have opened because I arrived?

No, no way… right?

“Hmm. Generas, huh? Sounds interesting. I want to see it.”

Mineha suddenly flew over and perched on my shoulder.

Of course—I’m curious too.

“You’re right. Let’s go. Axe, we’ll take a quick look.”

“Yeah, you can go, but…”

“Is there something wrong?”

“I felt a strange pressure coming from the place where Generas is enshrined.”

“I felt a tingling sensation as well.”

Alexander added.

“It made me feel sick, so we turned back early. If you start feeling unwell, come back right away.”

“Y-Yes.”

“Got it.”

Pressure, huh…
Feeling slightly uneasy, I headed toward the Grand Temple with Mineha.
