Chapter 21: Moryu Grass (4)

I never expected to end up traveling with Liv.

It was completely unforeseen.

But it was fortunate that she didn’t seem overly suspicious of me.

Probably thanks to her peculiar—or rather, easygoing—personality.

We advanced into the cave.

I glanced at the glowing orb floating slightly above us.

“A convenient legacy you have there.”

“…Hmm.”

Wait, that’s not a legacy.

The cave was dark. Unlike a dungeon, there was no illumination.

It was pitch black, impossible to see anything.

As soon as we entered, I reached for a torch.

But Liv took something out from her waist.

Or more accurately, from the storage space in her suit.

When she tossed it, it turned into this glowing orb.

There are probably legacies like this scattered across the world.

Maybe even legendary ones. But this orb isn’t one of them.

Perhaps it’s for planetary exploration?

Or maybe it’s some kind of emergency survival kit.

I remember a game from my previous life that had something similar.

Now that I think about it, is this world a planet?

There’s a moon and satellites, so it probably is.

Well, no point dwelling on it. I’m not that interested anyway.

“There are two entities up ahead.”

“Hmm… Understood.”

At the corner, two red points of movement.

Liv slashed at the hidden goblins.

Like slicing through tofu, the goblins were dismembered effortlessly.

The clean cuts were unnervingly precise, almost mechanical.

The severed pieces looked more like blocks than flesh.

“Aren’t you going to collect the bounty parts?”

“Hmm… Just the boss is fine.”

“I see.”

The goblin boss is deep within the nest.

Defeating it will cause the remaining goblins to abandon the nest.

Without a boss, goblins don’t form groups.

“If you want them… you can have them.”

“No, I don’t need them either.”

“…I see.”

Even if I took them, I’m not a registered hunter, so I couldn’t sell them.

I couldn’t help but glance at her blade.

“That’s an incredible sword you have.”

“Hmm… You’re interested in it?”

“Y-Yes.”

Liv lowered the blade to my eye level for a closer look.

“Hmm… Pleiades Blade… Liv’s Out of Place Artifact.”

A single-piece black blade.

There was no guard, just several circular rings stacked together.

Seven in total, I think.

The blade and hilt were adorned with patterns and symbols that resembled writing, but I couldn’t read them.

This sword isn’t just an ordinary artifact—it’s an OOPArt.

“Oh, so that’s why it’s called Pleiades.”

“Hmm…”

“It’s amazing.”

“Hmm… What’s amazing is… your relic.”

“R-Really?”

“Hmm… [Danger Identification]… perfect for exploration… convenient.”

“Thank you.”

Most of my relics, except for one, are suited for exploration.

That’s why I decided to leave my hometown and become an explorer.

“Hmm… Are you going to become an explorer?”

“Yes. I’ll come of age next year, so I plan to.”

That’s right, I’ll become an explorer next year.

But it’s not like being an explorer is my dream or anything.

It just seems to suit me, and I think I can make a living from it.

“Hmm… You’ll definitely make it.”

“Thank you.”

“Hmm…”

We descended deeper.

Soon, four red points of movement appeared.

I relayed this information, and Liv’s blade flashed.

In an instant, four goblins were reduced to pieces of meat.

Strong.

Even with this much strength, she lost to that Chimera that wasn’t a Nue.

But that albino Chimera…

I used the shortcut method to deal with it, yet it didn’t feel overwhelmingly strong.

Maybe that Chimera had a relic it didn’t use against me.

If so, why didn’t it use it at the time?

Wait, now that I think about it, I might’ve erased something invisible with Banish.

Could that have been the Chimera’s trump card?

Well, there’s no way to confirm it now.

“Liv, why are you hunting goblins solo?”

“…Field… training protocol…”

“Training?”

“…Practice… special training… honing… my skills…”

“To become stronger, right?”

Maybe because she lost to the Chimera.

It makes sense.

“…I have a purpose…”

“…Can I ask what it is?”

“…To challenge… that forest…”

That forest… Could she mean that one?

The one where no one who enters ever returns.

“Ah, there’s a lot ahead.”

“…Understood.”

“There are seven in total.”

“…Convenient…”

Liv darted forward. The glowing orb didn’t follow.

Her peach-white hair vanished into the darkness.

“Liv!?”

“…Heaven’s Form… Pleiades… Keraino Blade.”

Amidst several low screams, I saw a distorted yellow arc.

It was a slash trajectory, impossibly curved in a way no normal sword could achieve.

“Are you okay?”

“…No need to worry. Let’s move on.”

“Y-Yes.”

At this rate, goblins don’t stand a chance, no matter how many there are.

We continued exploring the cave smoothly.

The only monsters we encountered were goblins, and there were no traps.

It was just an ordinary cave—no treasure chests, either.

And yet, there was no sign of the Moryu grass we were looking for.

Perhaps we’ll need to go even deeper to find it.
