Just another Isekai Lover~

Chapter 22: Moryu Grass (5)

We suddenly arrived at an open space.

Caves often have these kinds of spacious areas.

“…Boy…”

“Yes? What is it?”

“…Rest… a little…”

After saying that, Liv glanced around and sat on a stone that looked comfortable to sit on.

Stones like this are also common in caves.

She pulled something out from her waist—it was dried meat.

“…”

“…Boy… you too… eat…”

She must’ve noticed me watching her.

Liv took a bite and handed the remaining piece to me.

“Ah, no, I’m fine.”

“…Don’t want it…?”

“I’m okay, really.”

“…Hmm…”

Liv ate the offered dried meat herself and quenched her thirst with a flask.

I drank some water too, but I wasn’t hungry.

After finishing the meat, she rinsed her mouth with water from the flask.

Most dried meats are intentionally made very salty.

Preserved foods come in various types, but taste is rarely a priority.

As long as they’re edible, that’s enough.

“What’s wrong?”

For some reason, Liv was looking down with a sad expression.

“…Liv… still hungry…”

“Oh, then would you like my dried meat?”

“…Really…?”

“Of course, here you go.”

I handed her a parchment-wrapped package from my pouch.

Liv opened it and took a look.

“…The color… pretty…”

“R-Really?”

She grabbed a piece and bit into it.

There was something wild about her demeanor.

“…Mmm… so… so good…!”

Her red eyes sparkled, and I couldn’t help but feel a little flustered at her reaction.

“I-I’m glad you like it.”

My dried meat has a well-balanced level of saltiness.

Liv chewed thoroughly, drank water, and then chewed some more.

“…Mmm… it’s… so delicious…”

In no time, she gulped down the large piece of meat.

“You have quite the appetite.”

“…Appetite…?”

“Ah, I mean, I’m glad it suits your taste.”

“…Boy… thank you… where did you buy this…?”

“I bought the meat, but I made the dried meat myself.”

“…You… made it…?”

“Yes.”

My knowledge from my previous life isn’t all that special,

but it’s not entirely useless either.

I once dabbled in smoking meat as a hobby.

It was only for a short time, and my knowledge is incomplete,

but it turned out to be somewhat useful here.

Of course, I failed many times.

There were moments when I wanted to give up.

The food in this world is often delicious as it is,

but there are flavors I still miss from my previous life.

Dried meat was one of them.

I wanted to get as close as I could to the taste I remembered.

And so, I managed to make some decent dried meat.

“…”

“…Is something wrong?”

She was staring at me intently.

Then, suddenly, she gave a small shiver.

“…I’ll… pick flowers…”

“Oh, uh, sure!”

Liv got up and disappeared into the darkness, leaving the glowing orb behind.

After a short while, she returned.

“…Break… over…”

“Y-Yes.”

“…Let’s go.”

How much time has passed since then?

At least 30 goblins have been defeated.

Though it was all Liv’s doing—I haven’t done anything.

She really is strong, and it’s not just because of her equipment.

It’s her skills and physical ability that allow her to wield that gear.

She must have undergone rigorous training, and she continues to refine her craft even now.

I suddenly had a thought:

Maybe Liv’s true nature isn’t that of an explorer but of a soldier.

Or perhaps she really was a soldier in the past.

While thinking about such things, we arrived.

The lowest level of the cave.

Since it’s a natural cave, there’s no door or anything.

But somehow, the atmosphere and air here made it clear that this was the final level.

“It’s spacious.”

“…Hmm.”

It was a large dome-shaped space.

Barrels and wooden crates were scattered around, and at the back stood a goblin.

This one was much larger than the typical goblin.

Its jet-black eyes were unsettling.

“…Hobgoblin…”

“That’s it?”

So this was the boss of the nest.

I activated my relic, “Danger Detection.”

The hobgoblin glowed red—a serious threat, but not at the maximum danger level, which would be black.

It held a thick, chipped saber in its hands.

The blade was wider and larger than a butcher knife, stained with blood and rust.

“…Boy, stay back…”

“Y-Yes, understood.”

I obediently retreated, and Liv readied her black blade.

At the same time, the hobgoblin raised its saber, and an unnatural gust of wind swept through the cave.

“…An elemental relic…”

A wind-element relic.

The hobgoblin’s saber was surrounded by a rough, swirling wind.

Liv was the first to act.

She closed the distance swiftly and swung her blade from a diagonal angle.

The hobgoblin easily blocked the attack and unleashed a powerful gust.

Liv dodged gracefully and took a step back.

“…Sky Style… Pleiades… Maia Blade…”

Liv’s blade began to glow red as she rushed forward again.

The hobgoblin swung its saber, sending countless wind blades hurtling toward her.

Liv skillfully cut through the wind blades with her own blade and closed in on the hobgoblin.

She swung her blade, aiming for the hobgoblin.

But it was deflected by the wind pressure from the saber.

There’s something off about that saber.

“…Could it be… an OOPArts…?”

Liv jumped back to create some distance.

OOPArts—

Objects that enhance the power of a relic when paired with a compatible one.

That saber must be an OOPArts synchronized with the hobgoblin’s wind-element relic.

A chill ran down my spine. My “Danger Detection” now showed black.

“…Boy.”

“Y-Yes?”

“…Run… I’ll defeat it… but I don’t know… what might happen… It’s dangerous… I’ll create an opening…”

“Liv…”

Her expression grew tense, filled with focus.

I recalled something a witch once told me.

Monsters that wield relics are far more dangerous than ordinary ones.

If such monsters were to use OOPArts, their power would become otherworldly.

That’s because monsters, more than humans, are naturally attuned to relics and OOPArts.

Even for high-level explorers… a monster wielding OOPArts is a threat that cannot be underestimated.

The hobgoblin let out a low growl and began creating a vortex of wind centered around its saber.

Though crude and rough, it formed a small tornado.

Suddenly, Liv picked up a stone and threw it.

The stone was sucked into the mini-tornado, shredded, and reduced to powder.

What destructive power.

This is the strength of a monster wielding OOPArts.

This opponent is formidable.
