Chapter 30: To get the Documents

It was the morning after the day Ren was able to use the cloak with his hand.

One of the reasons why he decided to come to Elendil was Licia’s training against monsters. Ren had left Elendil with Licia and Weiss for their first training.

The destination was right next to the lake where he had hunted berserk fish.

The three of them were walking along the beast path covered with deep snow, breathing out white breaths.

Along the way, they encountered beast-shaped monsters several times.

The number of such creatures is much smaller in winter than in warmer months, but that doesn’t mean that they are not there.

As for training against monsters, Licia was able to fight without much effort.

It was obvious that she was good at it, but the way she fought while listening to Ren’s and Weiss’s advice was typical of a hardworking woman.

But even so, there was no doubt that it was good training for her.

“Hey.”

Licia, dressed in her coat, asks Ren as they walk.

“What does it feel like to use the cloaking technique?”

She had already heard about it from Ren when he returned to the Elendil compound last night.

It wasn’t long before Licia, Lessard and Weiss were congratulating him on his growth, regarding his ability to partially handle the cloak technique at the Lion’s sanctuary.

If you only look at the ten days from the end of the year to yesterday, it is short, but Ren has done his best in various ways since last summer, learning basic swordsmanship as well as training with the vials in the example.

For the three of them who have been watching his efforts closely, it was a joyful report.

“It’s hard to explain, it’s like being wrapped in invisible armor or gaining invisible muscles.”

“What about the magic? Does it drain you a lot?”

“I wasn’t as good as I thought I was going to be. If it were you, Licia-sama, who is thought to have more magical power than I do, you might have more leeway.”

Following Licia, who listened with interest, Weiss said.

“It’s a real pleasure. I knew the boy would produce results soon, but to actually see it happen is a real treat.”

“Edgar-san said that it was also thanks to Weiss.”

“Eh? Me?”

“Yes. Edgar-san told me that Weiss’s pointers must have given me the strength to grow in the real battle.”

On the day when I was able to handle the cloak for a part of the time, Edgar told me that after teaching the feeling to my body.

He had long praised Weiss’s teaching methods, and now he praised them again.

“…… Oh dear, all that flattering won’t get you anywhere.”

Weiss is humble, but Ren is also very grateful to Weiss.

The imperial swordsmanship he taught him and Licia honed his swordsmanship and gave him the strength to think in battle.

His gratitude to Weiss is endless.

In the future, if Weiss had time, Ren wanted to continue learning imperial swordsmanship.

When he told Weiss of this feeling, he was embarrassed and said, “As much as you want, if it’s okay with you”.

◇ ◇ ◇ ◇ ◇

It was night when he returned to Elendil.

Perhaps tired from the day’s work, Ren woke up the next morning after a longer than usual sleep.

It feels good to get up and stretch out on the bed.

Looking out the window, he saw that it was a beautiful day.

“What am I going to do—?”

I don’t have a single plan for today.

I could go to the lion’s sanctuary and swing my sword or I could go out of town like yesterday if Licia wants to, but I decided to take a break when it came to the former.

I was still tired, so I shouldn’t overdo it.

On the other hand, if Licia wanted to go out of town, the latter case would also be unlikely.

After Ren finished getting ready, he left the room and asked the servant.

As expected, Licia had not woken up yet.

She must be tired after walking from morning till night yesterday.

(Well…)

Ren was undecided about how to spend the day.

When he was in Clausel, he used to spend his time cleaning the old house, but in Elendil’s mansion, there was nothing to do.

Ren, who wasn’t short on time, wondered if there was anything he should do.

If he was going to have a day off, he might as well make it a productive day, as well as a restful one.

“Oh, ……, I see.”

There was one thing that needed to be done.

When Ren recalls its presence, he looks out the window in the hallway and is approached by Lessard, who happens to be passing by.

“Good morning. You took care of Licia yesterday, didn’t you?”

“Good morning. Yesterday was a good experience for me too.”

“I’m thinking of going to the imperial capital for a bit today,” Ren continued.

Then Lessard laughed.

“The Lion’s Sanctuary? Don’t push yourself too hard. —-“

“Oh no It’s not that! I just remembered that I had something I needed to get. Since it’s the new year, I thought it was time to get it……”

“What do you mean, something you have to get?”

Twisting his head, Lessard, surprisingly, quickly came to an understanding.

Thinking back on Ren’s recent words and actions, it would be a lie if he said he didn’t understand.

“I see. The Imperial Military Academy.”

The purpose of the application was to take the entrance exam.

For Ren, who has decided to take the special class, it’s a document that must not be submitted late, no matter what.

“There are still a little over two months to go before the deadline, but it’s best to do it as soon as possible. I believe Licia-sama has already completed the process.”

“Yes…… but then again, you really know a lot of things.”

“I’ve studied it so that I don’t make any mistakes.”

As usual, it is knowledge in the legend of the seven heroes, but as usual, it is also unspoken.

Ren told Lessard again that he was going to the imperial capital, returned to his room, grabbed his wallet, and left the mansion.

The morning light reflecting off the silver snow was a little dazzling.

◇ ◇ ◇ ◇

Shortly after arriving at the train station in the Imperial Capital.

Ren was walking in the crowded station in the morning, and was in the crowd to change magic train.

Then he heard a voice calling him.

“Oo? If it isn’t the good kid —- it’s Ren, isn’t it!”

The man’s bold voice.

Verlich, a blacksmith and magic ship engineer, was walking with a paper bag in both hands. He seemed to be on his way home from shopping.

Ren weaves his way through the crowd to Verlich’s side and takes one of his paper bags.

“Are you going back to the blacksmith district?”

“Yes, I am! I’m sorry you had to lend a hand.”

“No. I’m sure it won’t be too heavy for you Verlich-san, but it will get in the way of your walking.”

The two had met here and Ren decided to help before going to the Imperial Military Academy.

Ren and Verlich walked side by side through the station and boarded a magic train headed for the nearby blacksmith district.

After a short ride on the train, they got off at the blacksmith district and started walking to Verlich’s workshop.

“The material was supposed to arrive in a little while.”

“That’s right. I heard it was delayed a little because of the snow.”

“Well, it can’t be helped. Think of it as a good preparation period instead.”

“I thought about it before ….., but Verlich-san, you’re very sincere about your work, even though you hate it.”

“Hahaha. Don’t get me wrong! I only want to do the work I want to do!”

Ren laughed at Verlich’s words, which were full of his character.

The two of them soon saw the workshop they wanted to visit.

“Thank you, Ren.”

“Don’t worry about it. I’m also in need of help with armor and a magic ship, so this is nothing to be thankful for.”

“Don’t be so transparent. Since you’re here, why don’t you have a drink?”

Of course, he was talking about tea. Not liquor.

“……umm.”

Ren planned to go to the Imperial Military Academy as soon as possible to receive the necessary documents for enrollment.

Therefore, he is momentarily lost for a reply.

“If you’re interested, I can show you some of the weapons and armor I’ve made.”

“By all means.”

It wasn’t fair to say such a thing.

He immediately responded, and Ren took Verlich at his word and stepped into his workshop.

It was after three o’clock in the afternoon when Ren left Verlich’s workshop.

Although he spent some unscheduled time, it wasn’t too bad considering that he had some unscheduled fun.

Ren let out a short, huffing breath as he stepped outside.

His breath was stained white with the winter cold.

Looking up at the sky, he sees that it is starting to snow slightly.

The sun was setting early due to the winter, and the lapis lazuli color was slowly encroaching on the edges of the sky.

By the time he will arrive at the Imperial Military Academy, pick up his papers, and leave, it will be dark.

(Well, not a bad holiday.)

He had seen some interesting items at the Verlich workshop, and it was convenient to get the necessary documents on the way back.

Thinking it was a refreshing change of pace, Ren made his way to the academy section adjacent to this section.
