Just another Isekai Lover~

Chapter 19: In the Morning Chirping

──The next morning.

Awakening to the light streaming in and the chirping of birds, I stretch widely to loosen my stiff body.

Thanks to the fireplace, I managed to ward off the cold, but giving up my bed to a drunkard didn’t make for a comfortable sleep, not much different from camping.

But there was no choice but to do so, considering that sharing a bed would inevitably lead to trouble.

Damn it, Saran.

Since returning to my hometown, Malhas, I think this was a trap anticipating that I wouldn’t bed a woman, but they really got me good.

Thanks to that, I can’t seem to calm down and feel restless.

I suppose there are brothels even in the capital, but… since I’ve been burdened with troublesome labels like “chosen by the country” or “hero,” I can’t afford to casually visit such places.

I messed up, didn’t I?

Could it be… I’m screwed?

“Jurg…?”

When I come to, Fimia, dragging a blanket, is stumbling towards me with sleepy eyes.

It must be because she drank too much yesterday.

Normally, she’s sharp from the morning, but today she seems rather unstable.

“Are you awake?”

“I’m still sleepy…”

“Then go back to bed.”

“What about you, Jurg?”

Fimia speaks with a childish tone.

Maybe this is her true self.

Despite her youth, she usually seems quite composed.

“Don’t worry about me. I’ll wake you up later.”

Lifting her light body, blanket and all, I carry her back to bed.

As a bit is revealed, I catch sight of her smooth collarbone and shoulder line and instinctively avert my gaze.

Though it’s not an emotion to harbor towards a comrade, this feeling is a bit too venomous for me right now.

“Soft…”

Fimia sinks into the bed and giggles drowsily.

In this moment, it’s hard to believe she’s the same woman who crushed an high ranking ape-man with a blunt weapon yesterday.

Her peaceful sleeping face somehow reminds me a bit of Rolo’s sister, Arko.

Thinking this, a strong self-loathing overwhelms me momentarily for even entertaining a fleeting desire towards her.

Despite being Rolo’s lover and a comrade, thinking of her in such a manner, even momentarily, is lower than any beast.

Even though I’ve come all the way to the capital, I’m clearly not cut out to be a hero.

It’s too late to turn back now, but it’s evident that I’m not suited for this.

It would be best if someone could take my place.

As I let out a small sigh, a hand gently touches my back as I sit on the edge of the bed.

“Fimia? What’s wrong, weren’t you sleeping?”

“Because Jurg looked troubled.”

Who does she think is at fault?

Oh, no. It’s wrong to blame Fimia.

She probably just followed Saran’s orders.

So, Saran might be the root of all evil.

“Please tell me.”

“It’s fine.”

“You had a pained expression and sighed, though?”

Fimia, still lying in bed, smiles lightly.

She probably doesn’t realize how dangerous my current situation is.

Is she still half-asleep?

“Hey, Fimia.”

“Yes?”

“Have you ever hated yourself?”

“Yes. I’m human, after all.”

Fimia sat up with a small smile and rubbed my back.

“For example, that day. The day I subjected you to the “Hero Selection Ceremony”… I hated myself terribly for my carelessness.”

“I told you not to worry about it.”

“Even so, I tried to make light of your painful past. As a priestess—no, as a person, as a friend, that was unforgivable.”

A hint of regret seeps into Fimia’s voice.

I’m not particularly bothered by it, but it seems to matter to Fimia.

“You once said you were a worthless human being.”

“Did I say that? I don’t remember.”

“Yes, when we were still newbies. You said you had no value, so you asked me to prioritize healing Rolo-san.”

I feel like I said something like that.

Back then, we were still inexperienced, and Fimia couldn’t produce miracles of healing as powerful as she can now.

So, I feel like I mentioned the priority in case something happened.

“Living in Malhas, I heard about your past many times.”

“It was all bad, right?”

“…Yes. After making fun of you, I realized that was the reason you said those things.”

Behind me, the “Saint” sniffles softly.

I don’t want to see her cry. If it’s because of me, it’s even worse.

“No… I didn’t want to talk about this kind of thing. You made me remember unpleasant things.”

“Then, Jurg, please talk to me. This time, to me.”

Whoops, messed up.

It would be rude to let Fimia speak and then remain silent myself. But there’s no way I can say something like, “I’m a bit troubled with sexual frustration, and both you and I are aware of it,” to a “Saint.”

“Well, you know, there are various things.”

In the end, those were the words that came out. I really am slow on the uptake.

“What kind of things?”

“Just various things.”

“Are you hiding something, Jurg?”

“It’s the rule of silence, Saint-sama.”

“Don’t think you can keep everything a secret with that.”

Seemingly dissatisfied, Fimia crawls out from under the blanket and circles around to face me.

The scent of a woman in the morning tickles my nose, and I instinctively close my eyes. If she’s going to be in my line of sight, I’d prefer her to at least properly dress or wrap herself in the blanket.

There was no point in exposing yourself in front of a man wearing just such a flimsy nightgown.

“Yurg, are you listening?”

“Of course”

“Why are you closing your eyes? And turning your face away?”

“There are various things, just understand!”

As I try to avoid Fimia’s hand touching my face, I lose my balance. Instinctively spreading my arms, I catch the falling Fimia.

With my sturdy physique, an unfortunate hit could cause injury.

“Whoops… Careful.”

“S-Sorry, Jurg.”

Fimia, looking oddly tense on top of me… I messed up. This is a major screw-up. All the effort I’ve put in so far has gone down the drain.

“For now, could you move away?”

“…I’d like to, but it seems my legs have given out.”

Fimia, blushing deeply, apologizes with a sheepish smile.

This is no laughing matter, Saint-sama.

“Alright, just get some more sleep. I’ll go for a walk.”

“Y-Yeah…”

Gently tossing Fimia back onto the bed, I leave the room with a dizzy head.
