Just another Isekai Lover~

Chapter 49

Now, with camping decided, various preparations are necessary.

I immediately prepare a bonfire, and there’s actually something I’ve been wanting to try for a while.

“Let’s make an outdoor bath.”

I gather wood for a large bonfire.

I look around and find several stones about the size of pickling stones, tossing them into the bonfire.

Then, I dig a hole with earth magic and fill it with water using water magic.”

I use the hole-digging skill once—1 meter square, 50 centimeters deep.

If I enter diagonally, I might be able to sink in somehow.

Then, I roll the heated stones into the water with wooden sticks.

The dogs are wagging their tails, curious.

“This is, you know, making a bath.”

“Wowo (making a bath).”

“Don’t touch the stones! They’re hot, you know.”

Working with someone to talk to is not lonely; it’s nice.

And somehow, I manage to complete it by sunset.

Steam is rising, so I check by putting my hands in.

“OK!”

I quickly undress and get into the bath.

Slowly, I sink my body into the water, diagonally opposite the dug hole.

“Yessssssss!!”

This is my first bath since coming to this world.

The water is a bit muddy, but the comfort of the hot water is irresistible.

“Phew, taking a bath really is essential for relieving fatigue. I want to take one every day.”

I wash my face in the water and tilt my head back.

Then, the two dogs come over to me.

Since they seem to want attention, I pat their heads and talk to them.

“What’s with you guys? Did you jump in without me knowing?”

“Woof! (Jumped in!)”

“Aren’t you guys idiots!?”

“Wafu (Seriously, Dad’s an idiot.)”

“Wowoon (Dad’s an idiot.)”

“If you say it yourself, there’s no need for me to worry.”

The dogs, not sensing any crisis despite facing a life-threatening situation, were strangely cute.

After getting out of the bath, a wave of fatigue hit me. So, I decided to go to sleep early.

When I announced that I was going to rest, the dogs came over to be by my side.

I was sandwiched between the two dogs, and the puppies nestled against my head.

It had a beastly smell… I wrinkled my nose, but I was grateful that I wasn’t afraid of the night.

I quickly fell asleep.

The next day, I woke up at 5 AM.

The alarm went off, and the dogs stood up alertly, but when I said I was okay, they immediately sat down.

And then, I began preparations to set out.

“This and this, I’ll give to you guys, so eat up. Also, you can eat the entrails scattered over there.”

“Wafu? (Is it from our master?)”

“No, I can’t take it home… So, I’m giving it to you. Eat it.”

“Wan (We’ll eat it.)”

“Alright.”

There are three pieces of meat left, but I don’t want to carry them anymore.

The one in the middle looks the heaviest, and I’ve already dug a large hole, so I decide to give it to the dogs.

So, I’ll endure and carry it just once on the way back.

I bid farewell to the dogs.

“Well, I’m heading back. Thanks for guarding the meat.”

“Wan (Master!)”

“Wan (We guarded it!)”

“You can go back to your homes now.”

“Waooon (Come again!)”

“Wan (We’ll be waiting!)”

“Whenever I feel like it.”

The puppies were still asleep, but when I patted the heads of their parents, they squinted their eyes and seemed happy.

I don’t think I’ll have a chance to come to the forest again anytime soon, but if I do, I’d like to see them again.

Even after I disappeared from their view, the dogs continued to watch my departure for a while.

Carrying the second rib meat, it’s now 6:30.

The meat I left by the cart was also safe, without any signs of theft by wild animals.

It hadn’t been eaten by wildlife.

Come to think of it, there weren’t any bugs either. I recall this only now.

“I wonder if it’s the influence of the ‘Preservation Magic.’ Maybe it has effects like not deteriorating and creepy things not approaching… Is there such an effect?”

I’ll ask Tinameril about it next time.

She’ll probably say she doesn’t know, but it could be an interesting topic for conversation.

Having stayed out overnight despite going out yesterday, I stand in front of the Eastern Gate, contemplating for a moment.

I took a bath, cleaned myself up, and changed clothes.

It’s fine… no problem.

The guards who spot me returning with a large cart immediately rush inside the gate. It’s within expectations.

Several guards and Captain Gutmil show up.

“Good morning!”

I greet them with a voice an octave higher.

“What’s that? Where were you?”

“Well, you see… adventurers were having trouble with dismantling materials, so I had no choice but to stay overnight. I finished loading in the early morning, so I came back.”

Captain Gutmil removes the cloth, and everyone who sees it is shocked.

There are clearly visible ribs and four chunks of meat that are unmistakably part of a torso and legs.

“This… isn’t this what I think it is? The Great Elasmos from the other day…”

“Eh?”

I feign ignorance with an expression of not understanding.

“But that was last week, wasn’t it? It’s different!”

“But you were at the dismantling scene, right?”

I wave my hands emphatically.

“No, no… It’s just that the depths of the forest are dangerous, you know? I didn’t go there because it’s risky.”

The captain looks at me with a highly skeptical expression.

But I’m just carrying meat, and I explain that it’s part of a request, so there’s no reason to blame me.

He snorts and covers his nose with the cloth, indicating that I can proceed.

With a forced smile, I bow my head and pass through the gate.

And so, the task of transporting the Great Elasmos meat is successfully completed.

It’s 7:30, and I arrive at the back of the guild.

Just as I’m about to carry the cart into the warehouse to leave it for a while, I run into Lilly, who has just arrived.

“Ah.”

She looks at me pulling the large cart with a clearly puzzled expression.

“Good morning.”

“Mizuki-san, what’s that…”

I can’t dawdle here. I quickly greet her and hurriedly move the cart inside.

Clatter… Thud…

I exit the warehouse just as Lilly is about to approach.

I move close to her, gesturing that we can talk later, and guide her towards the guild.

“Doing something dangerous again…”

“No, no!”

I wave my hands emphatically and explain that I have the chief’s approval.

Back in my room, I change into my uniform, and I manage to arrive at the guild just in time at 8 AM. Barely safe!

The chief was already there and seemed to have heard about the situation from Lilly. He immediately asked about it.

“Mizuki-san, did you have meat?”

“Yes, there’s some left.”

“…But isn’t it spoiled?”

I confidently point my finger towards the warehouse, inviting him to take a look.

The chief is surprised when he sees the meat.

It’s not just fresh; it’s in a condition that would be believable if I said I just brought it down.

“Mizuki-san, this…”

“Ah, well, you see… there’s a ‘Preservation Magic’ cast on it to maintain its condition.”

“Huh!?”

“I can’t go into details, but that’s the gist of it.”

The chief looks dumbfounded, as if saying, “What kind of story is this?”

“Let’s sell this to the Magnel Trading Company too… Chief, please make the arrangements.”
