Chapter 29: Advice

Aside from me, who was overjoyed at the praise from His Royal Highness Grayson, Bianca-sensei resumed returning the tests.

A few moments later, my classmates, having regained their senses, asked me, “How did you solve the last problem?” They asked me with tremendous enthusiasm.

I waited for the time to pass while politely explaining the contents to their curious minds. The demand for warm-air magic was higher than I had expected, and they begged me to “teach them the magic circle,” but I digress.

I knew it took everyone a long time to dry their hair. Even though the maids take care of the hair, sitting in a chair all that time is tedious. I know exactly how they feel.

I nodded, thinking of the warm-air magic I had created with the sole intention of getting some rest.

I decided, ‘I’ll give them a copy of the magic circle later.” Finally, the answer sheets were returned.

“Everyone, has their answer sheets right? Well then, I’d like to give an explanation of the test anwers… but I’d like to talk about mistakes in scoring the test first. If there’s something wrong with the scoring, please come to consult us by 18:00 after school today. Please note that we will not accept any requests after that. “

Bianca Sensei, holding a piece of chalk in her hand, reminds us, “Never put it off.”

The reason for limiting it to 18:00 after school is probably because the anti-cheating magic on the answer sheet won’t last any longer.

Gently touching the magic circle drawn in the corner of the answer sheet, I muttered, ‘The one that repels magic and ink.”

Oh my……? This magic circle is strangely old. Looking at the formula, I’d say the magic circle was probably drawn on the day of the practical exam for magic. It’s magic to prevent cheating, so it’s not surprising that it was drawn earlier, but the magic circle of …… His Highness Grayson and Lady Emilia must have been much newer. I didn’t read the magic formula properly, so I can’t say for sure.

As I calmly analyzed the magic circle, I tilted my head in a strange and uncomfortable way.

While I was busy solving the puzzle, Bianca-sensei began to explain the test.

I spent the next 40 minutes almost dozing off to sleep as her pleasant voice lulled me into a drowsy stupor.

…… The school chime rang as she finished explaining the final question.

“The class is over.  Good work everyone.”

Bianca-sensei bowed with a smile, held her baggage to her chest, and turned around.

Biting back a yawn, I watched her back as she left.

As I wiped the physiological tears from the corners of my eyes, Bianca suddenly looked back at me and beckoned, “Hey, …….”

She was quite concerned about the looks around her, as if it was something she didn’t want anyone to hear.

I wonder what’s going on? Don’t tell me they’re…… doing something like a competency test again? Is it because I got a perfect score on the test ……?

Sensing trouble ahead, I let out a deep sigh ‘ah ……’ and got up from my seat.

When I went to Bianca-sensei as prompted, I was taken to an empty classroom ────, but there were no other teachers there as there had been the last time.

It seems that she just wanted to talk to me alone.

“I’m sorry for calling you out of the blue.”

“No, that’s okay, but …… is something wrong?”

Bianca lowers her eyebrows apologetically, and I shake my head a little and ask her what she wants.

It’s unusual for the cautious Bianca-sensei to suddenly take this kind of action, so I quietly waited for her response.

She said, “Well, …… Actually, I wanted to talk to you for a moment about the end-of-semester tests…….”

“About the end-of-semester tests?”

“Is there a problem?” I wondered, to which Bianca-sensei nodded emphatically, ‘Yes’.

“It’s about the answer sheet for the final semester test,…… actually,──── several times, it was almost tampered with by another teacher.”

“…… heh?”

The startling information that came to my ears made me raise my voice in an unintentional bare voice.

I was stunned, but Bianca-sensei told me the details.

“It was after school on the day of the practical test that I felt something unusual. I had to go to the bathroom for a while while the test was being graded, but when I returned to the staff room, there was a teacher from another grade at my desk. She was rummaging through my desk, while muttering ‘C……C……Charlotte’… …I rushed in to stop her, so no harm was done, but it was clearly abnormal. So I installed a fraud-prevention magic circle for Miss Charlotte as soon as possible.”

As Bianca-sensei said this, her memories of that time came back to her, or perhaps a look of uneasiness came over her face.

Even though they were colleagues, she must have been afraid knowing someone would go through her desk without her permission.

A teacher from another grade was looking for my answer sheet, huh? That’s certainly odd. No wonder they were very vigilant. If I left it unattended, who knows what they would do to me. I’m so glad that Bianca took action first.

I knew that the old magic circle was proof that she had protected my answer sheet, and I thanked Bianca from the bottom of my heart.

“She seemed to have come looking for Miss Charlotte’s answer sheet several times since then, but my protective magic prevented her from doing anything in the end. As for the Herbology and History answer sheets, they are also safe and sound because I got permission from the teacher in charge and properly protected them.”

Bianca smiles as she says, “So don’t worry.”

To her, who went ahead and prevented the injustice. I smiled,

“Oh, I see. I’m sorry for the trouble I have caused you. And thank you so much.”

“No, I just did what I was supposed to do as a teacher…… But please be careful. Some adults who don’t think well of Miss Charlotte may try something else.”

With an ever-serious look on her face, Bianca-sensei strongly insisted, “Be careful.

I looked straight back into her reddish-orange eyes and pursed my lips.

I wrinkled my brow in annoyance at the situation, which was more troublesome than I had expected.

I thought that if I became the Emperor’s favorite, the teachers would indeed recognize my abilities, but it looks like it’s not that easy …… I never thought that they would go so far as to cheat and try to bring me down…… Well, thanks to Bianca-sensei, I was able to prevent it from happening. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to forgive. But what is it? This strange feeling ……. Do people usually try to get their hands on the Emperor’s favorite? You probably would not think of antagonizing her, let alone trying to take her in. …… What would be the benefit of doing so?

I was puzzled by the crime, which seemed so strange to me.

‘Is there something behind this?’ I thought, but thanked Bianca-sensei for the time being.

“Thank you for your advice. I will be careful.”

“Yes, please do so. I really want to report it to the higher-ups and have the teacher dismissed, but as long as there is no actual harm done, there is nothing I can do about it. I can only ask Miss Charlotte to take care of yourself. I am sorry I cannot help you.”

“No, no, no! It’s enough that you protected my answer sheet! Thank you so much!”

I shook my head in a hurry at Bianca-sensei, who looked down apologetically.

I smiled softly, trying to tell her that I was really grateful for her help, no kidding.

I really shudder to think what would have happened if Dr. Bianca hadn’t noticed anything unusual. I can’t thank her enough.

I felt indebted to Bianca-sensei and decided, ‘I’ll have to thank her again next time.
