Chapter 37: Preparing for the Athletic Festival

A lukewarm breeze that foreshadows the end of spring caresses my cheeks as I enter the densely populated room.

The members of the committee were all gathered in the Disciplinary Committee room after school under the warm sunshine.

In front of them, with complicated expressions that are far from joyful, are our chairwoman, Dina-sama, and our vice-chairman, Gerard-senpai.

And on the blackboard, there was a large sign that read ──── “Security for the Sports Festival”.

Yes, today’s meeting is to discuss the security arrangements and the schedule for the day of the sports festival.

To be honest, I think it would be a good idea to let the knights and mercenaries take care of the security for the school event, but the disciplinary committee has claimed this is part of the experience.

As expected, His Majesty-the Emperor and aristocrats from other countries will also come, so they won’t be careless, but the school security was the job of the disciplinary committee.

We can’t help it, even if we’re dissatisfied with the way the school assigns work to us, even during the athletic festival. Dina-sama looked around the room.

She raised the corner of her mouth loosely upon our appearance, showing reluctance to being the security at the athletic festival, she blurted out.

“Hahahahaha! Well, you guys are right! I hate it! I want to be free to have fun at least at the athletic festival! I know the feeling!”

Dina-sama, who laughs with a grin, empathizes with our feelings and says, “Yeah, yeah!” While nodding continuously.

The silver-haired beauty, who happily narrows her amber eyes, laughs a lot, and leans forward on the long table.

“I understand how you guys feel, but events like the athletic festival need people like us. I’ll try to arrange for as much time off as possible, but don’t expect too much. Last year and the year before, the public relations committee members hardly took a day off and worked hard.”

When we were told that the workload was dizzying, we cringed.

As we show an easy-to-understand reaction, Dina-sama giggles and smiles then clap her hands as if switching mood.

The loose air suddenly tightened, and we hurriedly straightened our posture.

“All right! I’ll leave you to your weak words for now and get right down to business. Today’s topic was, as written on the blackboard, security for the athletic festival. Before we get into a full-fledged discussion, I’d like to talk about the opinions from the student council and the school side, as well as the security situation last year. For now, please just listen to this as a reference.”

After receiving the printout from Gerard, Dina-sama prefaced it and began to read out the text without hesitation.

“The following are the opinions received from the student council and the school side. I want you to increase the scope and number of guards. We would like you to take the injured to the infirmary, even if they are only slightly injured. Please refrain from using explosive magic so as not to interfere with the athletic festival. And ────.”

I couldn’t help but press my forehead with my hand as the opinions and points were more detailed than I expected.

His Royal Highness Grayson, who sat next to me, was also unusually uncomfortable.

A deep crease formed between his eyebrows.

I can still understand the increase in the scope of security and the number of people.

Whether or not it would be implemented.

But escorting the injured and limiting the use of explosive magic doesn’t make a bit of sense.

What’s the point of ‘even minor injuries’? We’re not escort knights, are we? There is some sense in the explosion magic opinion, but we cannot choose a specific retaliation in cases of emergency! And what do you mean, ‘Don’t get in the way of the sports festival’? At the very least, it should be “because the damage to the surroundings would be too great!”

I had a headache when I thought that this was the opinion of the leaders of Frügel Academy.

While breathing out and calming down, the chairman of the disciplinary committee finally finished reading the wish book named “Opinion.”

“This is what the student council and the school had to say. Next, we’ll talk about last year’s security situation. If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to ask me.”

Dina-sama, who looked to be distant, had no ambition and didn’t seem to be playful.

She was strangely quiet, which I couldn’t even imagine from her usual persona.

“It was really hard last year because some tried to sneak into the botanical garden, some tried to set up strange magic devices in the school, and some others misunderstood the cultural differences and thought we were declaring war. As I recall, there were six flare guns launched last year. There was always trouble somewhere, so there was no time to catch a break.”

Perhaps thinking back to that time, Lady Dina put her hand on her forehead and shook her head.

It was unusual for her to reveal so much fatigue and anxiety.

I knew you were busy, but I didn’t expect you to be that busy.

Experienced people have different stories.

“Well, for that reason, it is currently impossible to adopt the opinions received from the student council and the school side no matter how hard we try, we don’t have enough manpower. It would be helpful if you could participate in the discussion based on the various aspects.”

When Gerard-senpai concluded the conversation on behalf of the chairman, I realized that I shouldn’t take it lightly.

If Dina-sama’s story is true, it will be difficult to increase the scope of security or even the number of people.

If we’re so busy that we’re even escorting the injured, we’ll be short-handed.

The thought of a brawl breaking out during the convoy makes me very nervous.

As I put on a subtle expression, thinking of this joke situation that can’t be laughed at, Dina-sama finally comes back to life.

The silver-haired beauty who changed her mind by slapping her own cheek with a clap turned her flat chest.

“Let the discussion begin in earnest! First of all, about the pair of guards, I’m thinking that it should be the same as when we were on patrol. I think it’s fine to use the same pairing as we did for the patrol because we don’t want to get in trouble if we’re suddenly paired up with different people and can’t coordinate. Next, I’d like to talk to you about the security arrangements and routes. ────”

The silver-haired beauty explained this and that, perhaps having thought about it beforehand, and presented a few ideas.

The members of the committee interjected, and everyone shared their opinions.

We talked for about an hour straight, repeating the process of trial and error.

As a result, the blackboard was covered with letters, and the map of the entire school was spread out on the long table with various marks.

However, the opinions have been listened to because of their worth.

“We agreed that the members who would be representing their class in the tournament should be removed from the rounds, but that they should also take care of any problems they encounter. Also, if they drop out of the tournament, they are to replace one of the pairs in Group A. Is that clear?”

Everyone in the room responded a cheerfull “Yes!” to Dina-sama’s question.

The silver-haired beauty nodded with satisfaction and read out the rest of the confirmation items.

Group A is the group that will be participating in the patrol all morning. Although there was a fifteen-minute break, they’ll hardly have any time off.

This is because more members were participating in the tournament than expected.

As a participant in the magic division, I felt bad, but I couldn’t help it.

The tournament, the highlight of the festival, was the top priority.

“It looks like we’ll have to go with the flow on that day──── but is there any objection?”

After summarizing the opinions written on the blackboard and giving her confirmation, Dina looked at us for our reaction.

Since the tournament participants are enjoying themselves, some students are somewhat dissatisfied, but … we didn’t argue.

This is because they understand that this security system is the best for us.

“Okay, there are no objections or counter-arguments. So, this is how we’ll work on that day. I’ll give you a printout of what we discussed later, so you can keep it in mind.”

Dina-sama, who looked around in a circle, saw us nodding and smiled in satisfaction.

She narrowed her amber eyes and put her hands on her hips.

“The day of the sports festival is going to be hellishly busy, but we’ll do our best. I and Gerard will follow as much as we can. ────Then, dismissed!”
