Chapter 2: Frügel Academy

Thanks to the efforts of the maids, I was able to obtain beauty worthy of an aristocrat’s daughter, and I have arrived in front of the Frügel Academy. I walked in through the open front door and quickly changed my shoes, following the instructions on the sign on the shoebox. Then I hurried to the meeting place.

This is bad… I’ve only got five minutes before the meeting time. I guess I was a little too careless. If I’m late for the first day of school, I’ll have to live with that shame for the rest of my life… a lifelong disgrace. Let’s hurry up so that doesn’t happen.

I told myself that as I hurriedly turned a corner in the hallway, I spotted a crowd of about a hundred people. They were gathered in front of the second hall where the entrance ceremony was to be held. They were dressed in their brand new uniforms, and their words and actions were a little awkward. I didn’t bother to ask, “Who are you, people?” I didn’t have to because I knew they were new students just like me.

As I was overwhelmed by the sheer density of the population, a man appeared from behind the crowd. He had curly brown hair and sunset-colored eyes, and he wore a uniform. With his distinctive tawny eyes and kind face, he looked at me, and his face broke into a smile.

“Thank goodness. When you didn’t show up with just five minutes before the meeting, I thought there was some kind of trouble. “

His soothing tenor voice radiated relief, and he seemed genuinely concerned about me. My conscience ached in the face of a person who was good at heart. I can’t say that I slept until just before I was late, even if my mouth was torn… Feeling guilty, I managed to keep my expression in check as I stared back into his sunset-colored eyes.

“Oh, um, er, I’m sorry to have caused you so much worry. I was just taking a little time to get ready, and there was no trouble…? “

I was filled with guilt and was in the middle of apologizing, but when I saw his tie pin and badge, I froze. With a bad feeling in my heart, I looked up with awkward movements and stared at his face intently. The gold tie pin and the badge with the dragon on it, which is the sign of the student council officers・・・・・and the brown-haired man who sometimes appears in my sister’s stories, there’s no doubt about it. He’s probably ────.

“──── I’m sorry, I didn’t know you were Marquis Isaac Kenneth Bryant, Treasurer of the Student Council!”

I bowed my head deeply and let the cold sweat drip down my face. Even though summer is still a little while away, it was unusually hot around me. I knew he was a third-year student because of his gold tie pin, but I had no idea he was a student council member… Why didn’t I notice it earlier!?

Here, at Frügel Academy, there are black, silver, and gold tie clips to distinguish between grades. Black means first year, silver means second year, and gold means third year. In addition, a committee badge system has been established to clarify the status and position of each committee, and there is a badge for each committee. In particular, the badges for the student council members, who are admired by everyone, are special and have a motif of a dragon, the symbol of the Draconian Empire.

The student council is extremely well-liked and influential in the school. They are truly the idols of the school. I can’t believe I’m causing trouble for such a person…! I would have come to school earlier if I’d known this was going to happen! As I bowed my head, feeling like I wanted to punch myself in the past right now, ──── I was tapped on the shoulder. When I looked up fearfully, I saw Isaac sama smiling at me.

“You don’t have to apologize. You’re not late. Besides, how did you know I was Isaac, the student council treasurer? “

“Oh, I’ve heard so much about you from my older sister…”

“From your older sister? Would that be ──── Scarlett?”

The people around me jerked at the name “Scarlett”. It didn’t matter that they were new students; it seems that they had heard about Scarlett Rosa Meyers. My sister stands out in so many ways.

“Yes, that’s right. I’m Scarlett Rosa Meyers’ sister.”

When I affirmed Isaac’s words, he clapped his hands in delight and said, “I knew it! I thought so because you and Scarlett look a little alike. I’ve heard a lot about you, too.”

“About me?”

My sister, who thinks of me as nothing more than a tool to enhance her image, went to the trouble of telling my story…? And to Isaac sama, a student council member…? What the hell is going on here? While tilting my head at my sister’s strange behavior, I asked Isaac sama “Excuse me, what did you talk about?”

Then he smiled vaguely, with a subtle expression on his face.

“Nothing much,” he said. “I was just asking about you… things are gonna be tough but do your best. Alright?”

He tapped me lightly on the arm to encourage me and then turned around. He took the list from a student who appeared to be a sophomore, and muttered, “Where is the other student? It’s less than two minutes before the entrance ceremony! “

Needless to say, it wasn’t the atmosphere to ask him more. What’s with his expression and that mysterious yell…? And I’m wondering what he meant by “it’s gonna be tough. Normally, it means, “It’s hard to get used to school life,” but I don’t think so… As I thought about Isaac sama’s strange words and actions, I heard someone’s footsteps from behind me. Without thinking about anything, in particular, I turned around and saw ──── a beautiful young man with black hair. He radiates a somewhat mysterious atmosphere and is so beautiful that it’s hard to believe he’s from this world… I couldn’t help but admire him. His black hair was blacker than darkness and darker than night, and his eyes were a deep blue color that reminded me of a lapis lazuli stone. Although his facial features were beautiful, he looked somewhat cold. His smooth skin was as white as ceramic, and his thin pale lips were inexpressibly sexy. It may be rude to compare them, but he was more beautiful than Isaac-sama. He looked like a being from another dimension… There are such beautiful people in this world.

“I’m sorry for being late. On the way here, there was a carriage accident, the wheel came off and it took a long time to fix…”

The pleasant voice shook my eardrums, and I had a funny thought: “Beautiful people always have good voices too.” While everyone was fascinated by the mysterious young man, Isaac sama cleared his throat lightly.

“It can’t help it if it was an accident. I’ll let the teachers know about it. The entrance ceremony will start soon, so please stay at the end of the line. “

“Understood.”

Isaac-sama nodded, then left the place and walked quickly into the second hall. I looked at the clock and saw that it was exactly 9 a.m. It’s finally time for the ceremony. Although there isn’t much to do, let’s try not to fall asleep. Forgetting about the uncomfortable feeling I had about Isaac-sama, I thought only about the entrance ceremony.

  1. I saw the Prologue listed over at Novel Updates, the day it was put up… but thought I’d best wait until there was another chapter or two.

I reached the end of this chapter, my mind already whirring in the background with different thoughts, comparisons, theories and observations…

And then everything ground to a halt when I realised that the “Next Chapter” link was black – not red.

It’s far too early for me to actually say this but… I guess this is another good find. Good work there, Kay.

I’ll be back once there’s something to binge – apparently that’s going to be a problem for me with this one.

    Many thanks, as usual.
