Chapter 63: VS Mine Ant

At the entrance of the mine, I addressed the soldiers equipped with magic gunblades.

“Magic Gunblade Squad, everyone’s here!! I’ll lead the way, so follow me. Also, this time, it seems the dwarf princess will be joining us. Let’s show the power of Asgard and reassure everyone in Dwell!!”

“Hooray!!!”

“Wow, as expected of Grace’s subordinates, everyone looks reliable!”

With my signal, Ruby stepped forward and began greeting loudly. Of course, she wasn’t wearing a maid uniform now but was clad head to toe in mithril armor with a magic gunblade.

Having her accompany us was partly her wish, but she also adds to our fighting force and boosts the soldiers’ morale. Escorting a princess from another country feels like something out of a hero’s tale, a situation that the soldiers admire.

“I’m Ruby. Nice to meet ya! Thanks for coming to help Dwell, everyone. I really appreciate it! I believe your deeds will be passed down in the history of our dwarven people. Let’s defeat the mine ants together!”

“Yeahhh!!! Leave it to us!!!”

“Loli big boobs are the best!!”

“Your accent is lovely! Please keep cursing us!!”

“This is just fat! Insulting me…? Boooo! Crybaby soldiers♡ Is this okay?”

“Yeahhh!!!”

Some of the soldiers responded enthusiastically to Ruby’s playful banter, boosting everyone’s spirits. Well, where did Ruby learn those words anyway…

Anyway, leaving that aside, it’s about time for our reunion… I chuckled and called out to Cain, who was standing a little apart, observing the situation.

“You’re coming too, huh? It feels strange to think that I’ll be protecting you guys this time.”

“Well, yeah. I know your strength firsthand, but I can’t let anything happen to Ruby-sama.”

Kyle pointed to his nonexistent arm somewhat self-deprecatingly, brushing off the sarcasm. It’s a fact that we still have some lingering tension from our past battles, so this kind of banter feels comfortable.

As I pondered this, I noticed him briefly flinch behind his mask, holding his breath. I wondered what happened, but the reason became apparent soon.

“Grace. Some of the weirdos are getting excited, but thanks to that princess, morale has risen. Looks like we’re good to go. Oh… have we met somewhere before?”

As Vigna approached, Kyle seemed to notice his gaze, looking puzzled.

“No, it’s just that…”

“Oh, he’s called Cain, apparently. Seems like a talented mage. He was found injured and unconscious after a battle and was rescued by dwarves. He seems to have amnesia, but he might know Vigna from somewhere.”

As I spoke, Kyle glared through his mask as if to say, “Cut it out,” but then chuckled. As he chuckled at his own discomfort, Vigna spoke up.

“Yeah… sorry, but I don’t think I know any mages, so it must be a misunderstanding. Looks like you care a lot about Ruby-sama. Don’t worry. We’ll definitely save Dwell. Grace is amazing.”

“”Huh?””

Saying that, Vigna smiled warmly at Kyle. His expression elicited not just my surprise but even Kyle let out a dumbfounded sound.

“Hmm? What’s wrong, Grace? You’re making a weird face…?”

“Well, it’s just that this guy…”

“Oh, thank you. Truly, you’re Grace-sama’s subordinates. Your kind words touch my heart. I’d be glad if my magic could be of use as well.”

Could it be that Vigna hasn’t noticed? As I was about to reveal his true identity, Kyle hastily changed the subject.

Well, if she hasn’t noticed, I can reveal it calmly at a later time. Enjoying Kyle’s slightly flustered reaction, I steeled myself for the battle ahead.

“So far, so good.”

“Yeah, with the width of these corridors, we can make good use of the strength of the magic gunblades, and there are few side paths, so it’s unlikely we’ll be caught off guard.”

“Heh, as expected of the master.”

While consulting the mental map of the mine already stored in the “World Library,” we continued advancing through the mine. Fortunately, we encountered groups of mine ants two or three times, but we were able to defeat them without much difficulty.

While the strength of the magic gunblades played a role, it’s also our numerical advantage that’s proving effective. For those who aren’t confident in targeting vital spots, we aim for their legs to deprive them of mobility and then shoot at their brains. Even though they don’t feel pain, if their legs are damaged, they won’t be able to move.

“Now, this is where it gets serious. Beyond here is a plaza that used to be the dwarves’ workshop before the war. If we can reclaim that, it might…”

“Master, I suggest not raising your voice. I sense multiple reactions.”

“Huh?”

With Galatea’s warning, Vigna signaled the soldiers to halt. I couldn’t shake off a sense of foreboding about their actions.

“Master, let’s go scout ahead. Excuse us.”

“Hey, wait a minute…”

With me on her back, Galatea proceeded deeper into the mine, and as she did, there was a series of clicking sounds.

“Master, are there any side passages we could use to get a higher vantage point?”

“Ah, yes… If we go up there, we should be able to overlook the hall.”

I pointed to a passage that seemed to have been abandoned midway, sloping upwards diagonally. Without making a sound, she ascended at an incredible speed.

And when we peered out from there, I couldn’t help but let out a groan at the sight.

“No way…”

“There are 53 life signs. Quite formidable opponents, Master.”

Yes, the first workshop we were about to reclaim was infested with a large number of mine ants.
