Chapter 92: I Want to Eat Pizza — Part 3: The Power of High Heat

An insanely delicious pizza was baked.

It was incredibly tasty. So delicious that I couldn’t believe I had made something so good.

“Is this okay? It bakes so fast.”

In a high-temperature bread oven, pizza bakes in just a little over a minute. The edges of the crust are crispy. But because it didn’t take long to bake, the moisture inside is retained, making the texture perfectly chewy.

On top of the dough was the special cherry tomato sauce I worked hard to make yesterday, thinly sliced onions, sliced green peppers, delicious bacon, plenty of cheese, and basil to finish it off. The aroma is so fragrant it hits you right in the stomach. The garlic and basil in the tomato sauce blended with the smells of bacon and cheese to create that unmistakable pizza scent that attacks the senses.

There’s no way this could taste bad.

With Larry’s permission, I also brought Mimi and Kirara. I’m sorry to bother you during such a busy time in the morning, but I really wanted them to try the freshly baked pizza while it was still hot.

Ann was also very curious. We cut into the piping hot pizza while almost burning our fingers and tasted it.

Cheese dripped from the hot pizza. The cheese intertwined with the tomato sauce, giving the cheese a reddish hue, which looked just beautiful. The thinly sliced onions are hot and sweet. Even though I thought I put a lot on, I wish I had added more.

The juicy bacon released happy meat juices with every bite. It was so delicious I wanted to chew it carefully until all the flavor was gone.

The basil aroma matched the tomato sauce perfectly. This cherry tomato sauce was very delicious — rich yet retains just the right amount of acidity and is sweet. That sweetness is umami.

All of this on the pizza dough was pure bliss. The crispy yet chewy crust wrapped everything up in deliciousness, bringing it all together.

Pizza is great. It’s a bundle of flavor and happiness.

It’s delicious, right? The power of the hot, melting cheese is incredible. The dairy is strong. Even if your hands get sticky or your tongue gets burned by the heat, pizza is justified.

“Awesome!”

“Delicious!”

“Basil, you’re doing a great job.”

“The cherry tomato sauce is rich and delicious.”

“Wouldn’t this taste even better if I added an egg?”

“Let’s do it right now!”

“Hey, what if we put Martha’s special curry on this pizza?”

“Let’s do it!”

“Can we add this corn too?”

“From the look of it, it’s already a perfect 100 points!”

“There should be some fish preserved in oil somewhere, Ann, bring it here!”

“I’ll bring it right away!”

“Fish preserved in oil!? You have that? If so, I’d like to mix some hometown seasoning into the flaked meat.”

“What about mushrooms? Zucchini? Asparagus? Can we try adding ham and salami too?”

“Wait a minute, is it okay to use bread dough for the crust?”

“I think it’s fine, but since it’s prone to swelling, I think it’s best to poke some holes carefully.”

Many ideas flew around.

With dough and cheese, you can make all kinds of pizza on the fly.

the possibilities of pizza is vast. Curry pizza tastes like a forbidden flavor. What is this? It’s delicious.

Some of the bread dough Larry had prepared was also repurposed into pizza dough.

It wasn’t made specifically for pizza, but it’s still a tasty pizza.

Larry’s bakery will have pizza as today’s special menu item.

After all the excitement, there was still bread to bake, so we helped with what we could. as an apology for running so many experiments during busy hours.

We divided up the work, putting toppings on the baked bread, washing dishes, and cleaning the store.

I was glad that we managed to bake a certain amount of bread before opening.

I asked Ann about the oil they used in the shop.

“Oil? This one. We don’t use anything special.”

She explained that the oil used on a daily basis are a blend of various oils. Shops that handle oils mix olive oil, rapeseed oil, and others on their own.

The oils harvested vary depending on the season, so the blend changes depending on the time while maintaining a certain level of quality.

I asked Kirara to check the oil she showed me. Kirara made a tiny “X” with her fingers. It seemed there was a little mix.

“Can I mix in some rapeseed oil we pressed ourselves?”

“Sure.”

With permission, we mixed in the canola oil. Kirara made a circle with her fingers.

“I think it will improve the flavor, so I’d like you to try mixing it a little at a time and let me know what you think. Can I ask you to do that?”

“Wow, is it okay to receive this much? It would help us out though.”

I insisted the hesitant Ann take some canola oil.

This was just in case, but I thought there’d be no problem if they ate dishes made with spices grown at home.

We took the pizza as takeout to deliver it.

First, to Grandpa Jill’s house.

“What is this? A new baked bread? It smells good.”

He asked.

“Well, if you say so, it is a kind of baked bread. Can you eat it now, Grandpa Jill?”

“I put the toppings on myself.”

“Mimi helped too.”

Yes, we’ve made many different kinds, but this is the pizza Kirara and Mimi made. It was the first one we made, with tomato sauce as the main ingredient.

“I haven’t eaten breakfast yet, so this is perfect.”

Grandpa Jill smiled kindly. He’s very indulgent with these two.

Old people tend to get up early, so it’s a bit suspicious he hasn’t eaten yet, but maybe he’s already hungry after waking up so early.

We reheated the pizza and served it to Grandpa Jill.

As Mimi and Kirara watched, Grandpa Jill ate the pizza and was left speechless at how delicious it was. His face was filled with a big smile.

Yes, sometimes it’s so delicious I can’t put it into words.

Seeing that smile, Mimi and Kirara also smiled and looked at each other, nodding in agreement.

There was happiness in his mouth. Delicious food is equal to happiness.

Finally, Grandpa Jill swallowed the happiness in his mouth and said with deep emotion,

“The baked bread made by Mimi and Kirara is the best.”

He said.

It really worked out well. Pizza is a wonderful thing.

“Grandpa Jill, do you use olive oil?”

“Grandma did, but I just use the same oil for everything.”

“I see. Would you use the oil we pressed ourselves?”

“Sure, I’m not particular.”

Yes, if you don’t have any particular preferences, you can use our delicious oil.

We also delivered pizza to Jude-san’s house.

“Saki-san, oh, Mimi and Kirara too! Welcome.”

“Hello.”

“We’re here to make a delivery.”

Mimi, Kirara, and Luna have become good friends. It’s nice to see kids having fun getting along with each other. From the outside, Kirara is the older sister, though.

We had been chatting for a bit at Grandpa Jill’s house, so it was just the right time for a snack.

I asked Martha-san to warm it up, and she reheated it perfectly as if it were freshly baked right out of the oven.

This was a half-and-half of Martha’s special curry pizza and Bismarck pizza.

“Hmm, curry can be eaten like this too. It’s delicious.”

Martha ate the pizza very elegantly.

“Saki-san, this egg yolk melts and mixes with the cheese, it’s delicious!”

Luna was happily kicking her feet. Jude-san was eating silently.

“Luna, are you feeling okay? Any strange symptoms?”

When I asked, she said,

“I’m fine now. I’m not as tired like before.”

I felt relieved when Luna said that.

“By the way, didn’t you have a problem with your shoulder before?”

I asked Jude-san.

“it’s fine now.”

He answered briefly.

Jude-san’s pizza plate was already empty. He eats fast.

“It was delicious.”

He said simply. When someone says that with a smile, it feels rewarding. Long praises are nice, but sometimes a simple word like this is enough. For anything really.

Since the three of us said we had enough pizza, Martha brought out baked sweets.

Martha’s baking skills are also professional level. The hard baked goods with nuts inside, similar to biscotti, are delicious. Kirara ate them with a blissful expression. She likes baked sweets and is particular about taste.

“I want you to come up with a spicy curry recipe.”

Mimi asked Martha.

“Oh, you can handle spice? I wonder how far you can go?”

Martha’s eyes became serious. I wonder. Mimi, do you think you can handle level 10 spiciness?

I like mild flavors, so Kirara, Luna, and I will just watch.

Kirara seemed a little overwhelmed by the curry on the pizza.

She doesn’t dislike curry itself, so I also asked,

“Could you please make a super sweet recipe just for Kirara.

“Hehe, I understand. In return, please teach me the recipe for this.”

The curry recipe is to be exchanged for the pizza recipe.

I’ll also give Martha some canola oil later.

Anyway, the pizza was very well received, so I want to bake it again.

If possible, I would like to have a pizza oven in my shed. A pizza oven is a slow life dream. But I also really like the way things are right now, where I can borrow the bread oven. Either way, ovens as overwhelming high heat that makes food taste better.

Pan-fried pizza is good on its own, but pizza baked in a high-temperature oven is truly delicious. I love it.
