Just another Isekai Lover~

Chapter 33. A Day in the Forest

“What does that mean?”

When I asked, I learned that if you make a designated request, you will need to pay a designated request fee and it will take time to complete the request, so

So, there’s a request that’s basically saying, “It is not necessary to request a specific person, but if you notice that person has arrived, please give call on them.”

Well, when you think about it, sometimes that happens.

Like when you’re shopping at the supermarket—any cashier will do, but then even if there’s a line with that one person, you’ll line up there.

Hmm? Now that I think about it, I wonder if Grandpa Jill had also made a request like that.

Thinking back, I do remember Matilda casually hinting at it to me, but I don’t remember her saying anything like that to me.

There were probably many different hints.

Being a receptionist at an adventurer’s guild must be a very difficult job, as you have to be flexible to respond to all kinds of situations. I really admire you.

“This is a request to gather medicinal herbs.”

Hmm, hmm.

It’s almost like a regular request, something that anyone can accept.

Apparently, they liked the quality of the herbs I delivered previously.

And it seems there was a request if it was possible to get the same adventurer.

I feel a little happy about that.

I thought about it for a bit, and since I can meet the deadline without issue, I decided to take it.

Before heading out, I should have a quick snack.

I’ve already had some strawberry mochi, so I’m not that hungry, I think I’ll keep it light.

Something easy to eat quickly.

Let’s go into storage and think about it.

I think udon would be good in this situation.

I prepare a bowl and a cup, then search for Hana◯ Udon noodles (small).

If my memory serves me right, it was about 100 yen back then.

The price is ridiculous. I’ll buy it.

A bowl of piping hot udon noodles appears, topped with a generous amount of complimentary fried tempura bits.

These fried bits are what you get when you fry tempura at a restaurant, and sometimes you get bits that look like the edges of ingredients. It looks like I aimed to include those.

A cup of water and disposable chopsticks also appear, ready to eat straight away.

The chewy noodles and savory broth are delicious.

The tempura bits, soaking in the hot broth, become soft and cling to the noodles, which is really good.

Delicious. I can’t stop eating. I love udon.

Eating something tasty makes me happy. Warm food is the best.

I ended up taking a little time to relax.

And now, I’m in the forest.  Inside the woods.

I came after buying insect repellent spray with 1,000 yen repeat and applying it.

To put it simply, I hate bugs and they scare me a lot.

I wonder when it started; that I started to have a fear of insects, something that I used to easily catch as a kid.

But since I’m into growing plants, I can’t really afford to say I dislike them or are afraid of them.

The insect repellent, the aerosol can type, is easier to spray, but I prefer the push-type that I can use upside down, especially when I think about throwing them away.

I once bought this insect repellent for 267 yen during a sale on Nyamazon.

I remembered this price because it was by far the lowest price and I wish I had stocked up on more.

Personally, I think it’s the strongest spray.

I know there are more potent, richer ones with more intense Deet concentration and more robust packaging, but I’m hesitant to use those day-to-day. Plus, they’re more expensive.

The herb from this request has distinctive jagged leaves with white hairs on the underside and a unique smell. It’s called something like “wormwood.”

Now that I think about it, I’ve gathered and delivered quite a bit of it before.

It resembles Japanese mugwort in both name and shape, so it is easy for me personally to recognize it.

It also smells similar. To be honest, I don’t remember the official name properly.

The smell is similar too. Honestly, I don’t remember it’s exact name clearly.

There are similar grasses, so Matilda mentioned that they often get mixed up and delivered by mistake.

Once you get used to it, they look different, but people who aren’t good at recognizing plants might not tell the difference at all.

It seems, they also can’t distinguish between flowers, buds, and wilted blooms.

Even though they look so different…

I once asked someone to pick up some flower petals, and I was surprised to find that the petals were still there and the buds had been removed.

“Hmm, hmm” I hummed as I moved my hands. I gently plucked only the soft tips, letting the scent of the herb drift through the air.

I really like this smell. It feels like spring.

There are white flowers blooming over there. It really is spring.

As I pick thoughtfully, my bag quickly fills up.

However, since these herbs boil down significantly once cooked, I think the more I have, the better.

Yes, I wonder if I can grow these herb myself.

I think that the fact that a request for collection keep being made means that there is probably a reason why the plant cannot be grown, is difficult to grow, or even if it is grown, its medicinal effect is reduced.

But it would be nice if I could grow them and deliver them.

I’ve been thinking about it, but the area I requested is about one third of a field, which is expected to be usable after rough plowing. Even so, it’s still quite large. About 100 tsubo is about the size of a 25-meter swimming pool, right?

I planned to buy seeds with the 1,000 yen repeat and plant them, but when I consider the expenses for fertilizer and other things, I feel like the field will be wasted if I only use the seeds I bought using 1,000 yen repeat.

So, I might need to get some vegetable seeds from here or try planting what I can get free of charge.

Even if this herb doesn’t work out, I might be able to grow other medicinal plants.

For now, I want to separate what I’ll deliver from what I’ll keep for my experiments, gathering the roots and soil as well.

Just as I finish collecting the herbs and think about heading home,

Suddenly, from the rustling bushes—a brown mass appears.

The song I was humming earlier echoes in my mind. It’s a perfect fit, but I don’t want such a perfect score.

I don’t recall dropping my earpiece!

Um, so…

Does playing dead work?
