Chapter 94: Student Council Assembly

After school that day, Rest headed to the conference room adjacent to the student council room.

As the academy was attended by many children of nobility, the student council had a large scale and authority, so they were provided with exclusive conference rooms and lounges that only authorized personnel could use.

The conference room had long tables arranged in rows, with chairs placed around them.

Rest and the Rosemary sisters, being first-year students, took seats towards the back.

After a while, members of the student council and executive committee gathered in the conference room.

There were twenty council officials alone, and forty executive members.

Although it was quite a large gathering, it seemed reasonable since there were members from five departments and three grades each.

“Hey, thanks for gathering, everyone.”

Soon after, Andrew, the student council president, appeared.

Beside him were his close aides, Yusgoth Betras and Rylanda Marker.

“I’ve called you all here for one reason. The biggest event of the first half of this academic year, the ‘Monster Hunt Festival,’ is about to begin.”

Standing in front of the assembled student council members, Andrew began his speech.

The Monster Hunt Festival was literally an event where monsters were hunted, held from the end of spring to early summer each year after the end of the monster breeding season.

Participation was open to students from the Magic, Knight, and Cleric divisions. Cleric students mainly participated as medical staff. Even students from the Civil and Arts divisions could participate if they wished.

Taking place on plains and mountains outside the capital, the event involved groups of academy students competing to hunt monsters based on their number and size.

In this world, monsters were natural enemies of humans. Hunting monsters was a duty for nobles who protected the populace, so such events were held at the academy.

“Participation is optional, but… usually around two hundred students participate each year. I’m sure you’re aware, but injuries occur almost every year at the Monster Hunt Festival. Two years ago, there were even five deaths. The student council must exert all efforts to ensure the event runs smoothly. The council officials will handle operations, while the executive committee will act as rescue staff in case of emergencies.”

The student council would work behind the scenes with the faculty during the Monster Hunt Festival.

Today’s gathering seemed to be for that purpose.

“We’ll distribute materials now, so please follow the instructions and take your positions and tasks accordingly. The command will be led by third-year students, so please follow their instructions. Especially for the rescue staff, it’s a job that involves the lives of participants. I want you to take it seriously.”

Andrew directed his gaze at one of the seated students.

The student, receiving a signal, stood up and spoke.

“I’ll take charge of the rescue staff. I’m Isis Carbert, a third-year student from the Magic Division. I’ll do my best to prevent any deaths, so please lend me your support.”

With a dignified demeanor, a tall female student greeted them.

She wore a male uniform, whether out of preference or habit… She was Isis Carbert, a short-haired female student.

She served as the leader of the executive committee and had already been offered a position as a court magician while still a student.

With her dignified appearance and demeanor, she seemed more likely to be favored by women than men, and indeed, there was even a fan club for her within the school.

Rest had exchanged greetings with her when he joined the executive committee, although they weren’t particularly close, they had some conversations.

“I think this is the first Monster Hunt Festival for the first-years… but please, I implore you not to push yourselves too hard. One in three third-year students end up as a casualty in the rescue staff. Consider this as real combat, not just training. Of course, if you wish to withdraw, that’s fine too. But those in the executive committee will have to resign.”

There was a slight tension in the conference room.

However, it seemed that no one was visibly intimidated.

Those who joined the executive committee all had experience in combat with monsters. There was no one among them who would suddenly become afraid and run away.

“Alright then. Let’s proceed with the detailed deployment. Please refer to page five of the materials.”

After discussing the deployment for the Monster Hunt Festival and the emergency response procedures, the after-school meeting was adjourned.

One week later.

As planned during the meeting, the Demon Hunt Festival was held.
