Just another Isekai Lover~

Chapter 293: An Unexpected Party

Accepting Andrew’s request, Rest headed into the cave to deal with the centipede infestation.

That said… going alone was too dangerous in case of an accident.

It wasn’t uncommon for adventurers to underestimate weaker monsters and end up defeated. Just to be safe, Rest needed companions.

“…Okay, but why this combination of people?”

“I-It’s been a while, Rest-kun…”

The one who appeared—blushing, for some reason—was a tall, masculine-looking woman in male attire.

An old acquaintance of Rest’s, and the head of the student council’s executive committee at the academy—Isis Carbelt.

Even though it had been a while since they last met, Isis was acting strangely bashful, almost embarrassed.

“Carbelt-senpai… why are you here?”

“W-Well… I just happened to be visiting Prince Andrew for some unrelated business. That’s when I heard about the monster issue in the mine and thought maybe I could help. No ulterior motives or anything. Yep.”

“…Is that so?”

“B-Besides, thanks to you fixing up the roads, travel to and from the territory I was granted has gotten much easier. So… I wanted to thank you. If it’s not too much trouble, I’d like to help!”

Isis rushed to finish her explanation.

She had also earned her own territory for her accomplishments in liberating the Sabnock Plains. And thanks to Rest working on roads through Prince Andrew’s central territory, access to her land had improved greatly.

“Well, if it’s Carbelt-senpai, I have no complaints.”

As the head of the student council executive committee, she was an extremely capable mage.

Rest might be more highly rated due to his infinite magic power, but when it came to actual combat experience and achievements, Isis may have had the upper hand.

“And… you’re here too, huh? Lady Lavender of the Border Margrave family.”

The second unexpected companion was none other than Urla Lavender, daughter of the Border Marquis of Lavender.

She was wearing a cute purple dress and looked up at Rest with sleepy eyes.

“Urla.”

“Mm?”

“Urla… I’m Urla.”

“…I know that?”

Rest tilted his head in confusion.

They were well-acquainted, so a reintroduction was odd.

“Rest-kun. I think Lady Urla wants you to call her by her first name.”

“Ah… come to think of it…”

He vaguely remembered her asking that before.

Clearing his throat, Rest shifted his tone.

“Well then, Urla. Why are you here?”

“Prince Andrew. I came.”

“…You came to see Prince Andrew?”

“Heard. Rainbow Crystals.”

“…You overheard something about the Rainbow Crystals and came to join in?”

“You forgot.”

“I… forgot? Huh? What do you mean by that?”

Rest tried to make sense of her fragmented statements but couldn’t quite grasp what she meant.

“So basically, you overheard something about the Rainbow Crystals, thought you wanted some too, and decided to join in… is that it?”

“No.”

“Huh?”

“No.”

Apparently not.

Urla flatly denied it, looking up at Rest with her drowsy eyes—eyes that somehow still had an oddly piercing glare, like she was silently blaming him for something.

(If Yuri were here, maybe she could understand what Urla’s trying to say…)

Rest scratched his head, clearly troubled.

He hadn’t told Yuri or the Rosemary sisters about the centipede extermination. He was planning to give the Rainbow Crystals to them as a surprise gift, so bringing them along would’ve ruined it.

“Well, anyway… if you’re willing to help, I really appreciate it. But don’t push yourselves.”

“Of course. But—I will expect a reward.”

“A reward. A present.”

“Yes, yes… Hmm. How about this? If we get enough Rainbow Crystals, I’ll make some accessories for you two as a thank-you gift?”

That was Rest’s casual proposal.

He hadn’t thought much of it—but for some reason, both Isis and Urla’s eyes lit up at the exact same time.

“You’ll really make one for me too!?”

“Want… one!”

“Wha—!”

Both girls suddenly closed the distance, crowding around Rest.

Overwhelmed by their pressure, Rest leaned back instinctively.

(What exactly did I say that hit such a nerve…? I didn’t expect them to react this strongly…)

“O-Okay then! Once I get the Rainbow Crystals, I’ll make thank-you gifts for you both…”

“Make it a ring! Yeah—a ring would be great!”

“Mm. Ring only.”

“H-Huh!?”

Caught up in their momentum, Rest could do nothing but nod along in confusion.
