Chapter 271: It’s a Date (Primula Arc) ⑤
“Flame Cannon — Fire Bolt! Lightning Cannon — Thunder Bolt! Ice Cannon — Ice Bolt! Wind Cannon — Wind Bolt! Earth Cannon — Earth Bolt!”
“SYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!”
Rest unleashed a barrage of spells, attacking the monster right in front of him.
The magic spells shaved away chunks of the monster’s massive body, but — each time, the damage would immediately heal, restoring it to its original form.
“Damn it… what the hell is going on!?”
The fully regenerated monster swung its long tail at them.
Rest used Star Eater to erase the tail, but — just like before, the moment the tail disappeared, its regeneration had already begun.
“This isn’t healing magic… No, that’s not it.”
At first glance, it seemed like the monster was using magic to heal, but something felt off. There wasn’t even the slightest trace of healing magic in the air.
And its regeneration was oddly mechanical — even the wounds he had gouged open weren’t bleeding.
There had to be some hidden trick behind all this… The moment that thought crossed Rest’s mind, something clicked. He remembered the stone slab where this monster had been carved.
“So that’s it…! That explains everything!”
The feeling of something being “off” had been lingering ever since this began, but now the truth finally dawned on him.
He’d seen a place like this before. The landscape, the atmosphere — it was all different, but the same thing had happened: he’d been abruptly transported here.
“This place… is a dream world!”
Rest had once been trapped inside a mental world created by Sanada Shouko. The polarity was reversed — positive and negative — but this space felt eerily similar.
“Now that I think about it… The artist who created that stone slab was said to have been haunted by nightmares.”
And whoever possessed the stone slab would reportedly suffer from those same nightmares.
Could it be that the monster before him was the embodiment of those very nightmares, sealed within the stone?
“But… even if it’s a nightmare monster, it can’t have infinite power. There’s got to be a reason it takes damage and then restores itself… some kind of mechanism.”
“I don’t like this… it’s all wrong…”
“…!!”
That’s when Rest put the pieces together.
If this world really was born from a nightmare, then the source had to be nearby.
“Primula!”
“I’m scared… so scared…”
“Primula, hold on! Snap out of it!”
Rest called out to her, his voice urgent.
The monster’s strength — the key had to be Primula’s fear. It was feeding off her fear, growing stronger with every moment she remained trapped in terror.
“Primula, please… you have to calm down!”
“I’m scared… I can’t take this…”
Primula trembled violently, her mind teetering on the brink.
Words alone weren’t going to reach her.
“If that’s how it is…!”
Rest made up his mind.
Primula was trapped in a nightmare. And the only way to shatter that dark image was to overwrite it with an image so powerful it could drive away the fear.
“Primula…”
“Eh…!?”
Rest leaned in and kissed her.
Their lips met, and as he held her tightly, their kiss deepened.
“Nn…!”
Primula’s eyes widened in surprise for a moment — but her cheeks flushed red, and her expression softened into bliss.
The monster, the fear — everything vanished from her mind, as if it had all been erased.
“~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!!!”
At the same moment, the monster let out a wordless, inhuman scream.
Its body stopped regenerating, the pain finally overwhelming it.
The dark sky overhead cracked open, and sunlight began to shine through. The once gloomy swamp lit up, bathed in light.
“Amaterasu!”
Rest, seizing the moment, launched the finishing blow.
Still holding Primula, he summoned another Dark Star — this time focusing the rays of the sun into a concentrated beam and firing.
“Gggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh———!!”
The searing solar laser sliced clean through the monster, splitting it from top to bottom, and finally obliterating it.

“…Huh?”
The world brightened.
When Rest came to, he found himself standing inside the museum again.
Primula was right beside him, standing close. Naturally, they weren’t kissing anymore.
“We’re back…?”
“Rest-sama, is something wrong?”
Primula looked up at him, blinking innocently.
“Primula…?”
“Yes? It’s me.”
Her face showed nothing but mild confusion, as if nothing had happened at all.
Maybe it had all been a nightmare — something only Rest had experienced.
But… her cheeks were faintly flushed, her eyes glistening, just like right after a kiss.
“Here it is, here it is — found it!”
“It’s not ‘here it is’! Geez…”
Just then, two men who appeared to be museum staff walked over. One of them, a younger man, lifted the stone slab from its display stand. The older staff member turned toward Rest and Primula with a polished customer-service smile.
“Apologies… this exhibit was never actually meant to be on public display. It seems there was a staff mistake, and it was accidentally put out.”
“Not meant for public display…?”
“That’s right. It wasn’t supposed to be shown.”
“We’re terribly sorry — we’ll remove it now.”
As the young staff member carefully carried the slab away, something unexpected happened: the stone slab suddenly split in two and dropped to the floor.
“Hey! What are you doing!? You broke it!”
“N-No, it wasn’t me! It just… cracked on its own!”
“Ugh… Honestly. I’m so sorry for the trouble. Please excuse us.”
The two staff members hurried off, rushing to find their supervisor to report the broken slab.
“…Let’s head home.”
“Yes, let’s grab something to eat before we do.”
Primula giggled, happily wrapping her arm around Rest’s.
The fear from earlier had left no trace on her bright, smiling face.
(Was it really just my imagination…?)
Had it all been a daydream?
Still puzzled, Rest left the museum with Primula, shaking his head.
