Chapter 264: It’s a Date (Viola Arc) — Part 2

“I’m glad you enjoyed it…”

“Yeah, it was great.”

Rest and Viola had fully indulged themselves at the cat café, and now they were stepping back out into the street.

The experience at their first-ever cat café had been even better than expected.
There was something charming about being at the mercy of the cats’ cuteness and moody whims — it felt surprisingly fun.

“So, where should we go next?”

“Let’s grab something to eat. We only had drinks at the café, so now I’m a bit peckish.”

“Yeah, good point. What do you feel like eating?”

When it comes to dates, fancy restaurants are usually the go-to, right?
Rest had money now. Even the priciest high-class restaurant wouldn’t be a problem for him.

“This place looks perfect!”

“Here? Are you sure this is where you want to eat?”

Viola pointed to a casual diner on the main street.
It wasn’t the kind of fancy place nobles would dine at — not even close.

It was more of a working-class joint, where ordinary folks grabbed a meal after work, washed it down with drinks, and got a little rowdy.

(This… definitely isn’t the kind of place a noble lady would usually be interested in…)

“I’ve always wanted to try a place like this. It looks so lively and fun, don’t you think?”

“Yeah… I guess that’s one way to look at it.”

For someone like Viola — born and raised in nobility — a busy, no-frills diner like this must seem refreshingly novel.
If Viola was happy, Rest had no reason to object. He led her inside.

The interior had a few counters and tables, and since it was still early, about half the seats were unoccupied.

“Welcome! Sit wherever you like!”

As soon as the two of them entered, a stout man behind the counter called out in a cheerful, casual voice.

“Ah…!”

“It’s fine, let’s sit over here.”

Viola froze up a little, startled by the man’s rough, overly familiar tone.
Rest gently tugged her arm, guiding her toward an open table.

“This is… something else.”

She didn’t say exactly what, but as she sat down, Viola looked around, clearly overwhelmed by the new experience.

In the restaurants she was used to, the staff would always greet customers with a polite bow and formally guide them to their seats.
Being told to “just sit wherever” was likely a first for her.

“Although… it does feel a little like the cafeteria at the academy.”

“Yeah, that’s probably the closest comparison.”

Though to be fair, the academy’s cafeteria still had more class than this.

Anyway, the two of them looked over the handwritten menu posted on the wall and picked a few dishes and drinks at random.

“Alright, just a sec — I’ll bring it over!”

After jotting down their order, the server disappeared into the back and soon returned with their drinks.

Wooden mugs and cheap ale.
This world had no legal drinking age, so there was nothing odd about Rest and Viola ordering alcohol.

“Wow… this is surprising. The cups aren’t porcelain or glass, and the ale isn’t even magically chilled…!”

“Wow, way to sound like a noble.”

If anyone overheard her, it might’ve come across as a brag.
But Viola’s wide-eyed fascination was pure and innocent, with no ill intent whatsoever.

“Hey, maybe keep comments like that a little quieter, yeah?”

“I’m not sure why, but… okay?”

Looking puzzled, Viola took a sip of the ale.

Then, blinking a few times in surprise, she muttered, “Hmm… not very tasty.”

Apparently, the flavor wasn’t to her liking.

Before long, the food arrived as well.

“Oh, this is good! The flavor’s much stronger than the meals we have at home.”

Viola took a bite of the sauce-covered meat and held her cheek, clearly enjoying the bold taste.

“It’s lacking in spices compared to what I’m used to, but they really went heavy on the salt.”

“Yeah, but it’s tasty in its own way.”

Rest chewed his food contentedly.

The ale might’ve been disappointing, but the strong, salty dishes were pretty satisfying.

As they chatted about nothing in particular, the two gradually polished off their meal.

While they ate, the restaurant began to fill up, the lively noise level rising with the crowd.

It wasn’t exactly the “romantic date atmosphere” most would imagine, but…
Viola was all smiles, clearly enjoying herself in her own way.

“Hey! You bastard, don’t screw with me!”

“Shut it! I’ll kill you!”

“…Hm?”

“What was that…?”

Just as the two of them were settling into the meal and the moment, loud shouting suddenly rang out nearby.
They exchanged glances, both sensing trouble brewing.
