Chapter 214: Yuri’s Scolding
The Elder Wyrm, the leader of the Wyrms, had been obliterated by a newly developed fire magic spell.
Afterward, Rest had encountered Leonardo Gascoigne, the chairman of the Council of Sages, and endured a cryptic lecture. With a lingering sense of confusion, Rest returned to the campsite, burdened with unanswered questions.
When Rest arrived, he found the camp in an uproar. Though everyone should have been asleep, they were wide awake, bustling about. Torches lit up the area, and soldiers from the Lavender Border Marquisate were running back and forth, their movements frantic.
“Rest! Where have you been?”
As Rest descended from the sky, Yuri stormed over, her eyes blazing.
“Where were you? I was worried sick!”
“Sorry… But what’s going on here?”
“What’s going on? Didn’t you see? There was a massive explosion over there!”
Yuri pointed toward the wetlands, precisely where Rest had fought the Elder Wyrm.
“The noise woke us up, and then there was this huge explosion visible even from here! You were gone, and we were all worried about you!”
“Ah… My bad.”
In hindsight, it made sense. After such an intense battle, the noise could easily have reached the camp.
Not to mention the massive explosion caused by The Flame-Birthing God. There was no way anyone could have slept through that.
“I couldn’t sleep, so… well, I went to fight.”
Rest admitted sheepishly.
“Fight? Don’t tell me…”
“Yeah…”
Rest nodded heavily.
Though he had been riding high after eating the Wyrm meat feast, now that he had calmed down, he realized just how reckless his actions had been.
“That explosion… I caused it. I used it to blow away the Wyrm boss.”
“Rest… you unbelievable man!”
Yuri grabbed Rest by the shoulders and began shaking him back and forth.
“Why didn’t you invite me?! If you were going to fight, I would have gone with you!”
“Wait, that’s what you’re mad about?”
“Of course! What’s the point of me being here if I can’t fight alongside you?”
Unexpectedly, Yuri scolded him over something entirely different than he’d anticipated. Considering her personality, it made sense.
She wasn’t the type to lecture him about environmental destruction or the like.
“Honestly! Don’t leave me out again. Promise me you won’t. Never again!”
“Alright, alright. I’ve learned my lesson. Really…”
To be fair, the whole situation had started because of the food Yuri cooked, so Rest didn’t feel entirely at fault.
But arguing that point would likely only make things worse with an angry girl.
Rest wisely chose to offer a sincere apology instead.
As Yuri barked at him like a large dog upset about being left behind from a walk, Rest turned his attention to the others.
Ostrey wasn’t present.
He seemed to be busy giving orders to the guards, ensuring the area’s safety.
“……”
Urla watched Rest from a short distance away.
Beside her stood her attendant, Arly.
“Sorry for waking you both.”
Rest said, offering an apology.
“……”
Urla said nothing in response. Instead, she simply stared up at Rest. Her amethyst-like eyes, enigmatic and unreadable, were fixed on him.
“Uh…?”
“So, it really was you…”
“Hmm?”
“Such beautiful magic…”
“…Huh?”
What was she talking about?
Urla’s tone was distant and dreamy, as if she were speaking in a trance.
In that moment, she reminded Rest of the cryptic sage he had encountered earlier. Both shared the same tendency to speak in riddles and leave him bewildered.
Unsure of how to respond to Urla’s vague and surreal demeanor, Rest could only tilt his head in confusion.
