Chapter 186: Finally, Contact

Rest and Yuri had just exited the building, which was being used as a classroom for barrier magic.

“Well then, Rest, I’m off for my run!”

“Wait, you’re really going to run?”

“Yeah! That’s what I was told to do!”

Yuri began to do some quick foot stomps, ready to start her run. She was the kind of person who was either earnest or perhaps a bit too serious, almost to the point of being foolish.

“Woah!”

“Ah…!”

Just as Yuri was about to take off, she suddenly stopped. It seemed she almost collided with someone who had come out from behind the building.

With a last-minute stop, she avoided crashing into the person, but the other party lost their balance and fell to the ground, landing on their bottom.

“I’m sorry! Are you okay?!”

“Hey, Yuri! What are you doing… Huh?”

Rest, rushing over to see what had happened, blinked in surprise. The girl sitting on the ground was someone he recognized.

“Ugh… That hurt.”

“You’re… The daughter of the Lavender Border Margrave…?”

It was Urla Lavender, the daughter of the Lavender Border Margrave. She had appeared in the settlement a few times and they had met during meetings, but it was unexpected to run into her here.

“I’m sorry… I really should have been more careful. Are you okay?”

“It seems like there’s no serious injury… can you stand?”

Rest, stepping in to help, extended his hand to Urla. He was about to help her up and maybe even use healing magic, but for some reason, Urla was frozen in place.

“Ah…!”

“O-oh?”

Rest felt a piercing gaze coming from behind Urla’s purple bangs, almost as if she was staring straight at him. He couldn’t understand why she was looking at him with such intensity, especially considering their minimal interaction.

“…It’s… happening.”

“Eh?”

“I… I’m bleeding.”

“Ahhh!”

As if on cue, the next moment, Urla’s nose began to gush with blood, bright red against her pale face.

“Why… why are you bleeding from your nose after falling?!”

Rest exclaimed in panic. It didn’t seem like she had hit her face, so maybe Yuri had bumped into her from an angle Rest couldn’t see.

Blood dripped down onto her skirt, staining it.

“Me… Medic! Someone, anyone who can use healing magic, please help!”

“Calm down, I can do it!”

Rest quickly knelt next to Urla, placing a hand on her head.

“[Heal]”

A soft light enveloped her head, and the bleeding stopped.

Rest, not noticing any signs of her having hit her head, thought she was fine, but he gently pressed a handkerchief soaked in water to her face to clean up the blood.

“For now, you should be okay… But if there’s any lingering pain, please see a healer. If necessary, I’ll cover the treatment costs.”

“I’m so sorry… Really, I’m so sorry…”

Yuri, looking like a dog scolded by its owner, sat down, looking down in shame.

“No… it’s my fault. If anything, this should be considered… a reward.”

“Eh?”

“Thank you…”

Urla bowed her head and thanked Rest, and strangely, even thanked Yuri.

Rest, who had treated her, could understand her gratitude, but it was unclear why she was thanking Yuri, who had been the one to bump into her.

“U-um… You are…?”

“Urla…”

She replied.

“Ah, yes, of course. Lady Lavender, daughter of the Border Margrave…”

“Urla.”

“Right… Urla Lavender-san.”

“Urla.”

“…”

What could this be?

This reaction feels like an NPC in an RPG who repeats the same lines over and over again.

Rest, sensing some mysterious pressure from the small purple-haired girl, decided to go along with her request for the time being.

“Urla-sama.”

“……Haaah.”

“Eh!? Again!? You’re bleeding from your nose again!?”

Once again, Urla’s nose started gushing blood.

In a panic, Rest cast a healing spell, this time using a higher-level spell than before.

“Are you sure you’re okay? Maybe… you should really see a healer…”

“I’ll go get one! Wait here!”

Yuri dashed off at full speed.

Since this frontier village also handled monster hunts, it naturally had healers and priests on-site. Given Yuri’s speed, she would probably return with an expert soon.

“More importantly, I’m worried she might hurt someone else by running into them again…”

“……I’m fine. No injury.”

Urla grabbed Rest’s sleeve and tugged him toward her.

“It’s a reward.”

“A reward? Um… Is that some slang from the east or something?”

“No.”

Urla continued to stare at Rest, not glaring, but observing him.

While there was no unpleasantness, Rest felt an odd sense of discomfort under her gaze.

“Well then, let’s move to somewhere we can rest.”

“Please.”

“Okay, right away…”

“I have a request…”

“Eh?”

Urla tugged on Rest’s sleeve, trying to get his attention.

“Monsters. I want you to defeat them… to the east.”

“……?”

Rest furrowed his brows at Urla’s words. They were brief, just fragments of information, but he guessed that maybe a strong monster had appeared to the east, where the Lavender Border Margrave’s family was leading the settlement effort.

Urla nodded in confirmation of his guess.

“A dragon. It appeared.”

“……”

Rest was left speechless by her statement. It seemed like the situation was even more serious than he had anticipated. He might need to report this to Andrew as well.

“Well then… let’s hear the full details first…”

Rest let out a sigh and slumped his shoulders, preparing to listen to Urla’s account of the situation.
