Chapter 173: The Meeting Might Dance…
Urla Lavender stood up from her chair and finally began her report.
“On the eastern side of the plain… development is progressing little by little…”
Although it was a much-anticipated report, it was disappointingly brief and matter-of-fact.
The eastern side of the Sabnock Plain was set to be developed by the Lavender family, who would work with the nobles of their neighbours to develop the area. Since the Lavender family had not participated in the recent civil war, they were not initially supposed to receive land designated as a breeding ground.
However, in exchange for the investment of sufficient funds, manpower, and materials into the development of the plain, some portions of land on the eastern side were eventually granted to them.
(The eastern side of the plain has many wetlands, making it difficult to transport resources such as timber and stone from the western side. If we don’t leverage the power of Margrave Lavender, a major noble in the eastern part of the kingdom, the development is going to be tough…)
It would be much more efficient to have resources transported directly from the east rather than making a long detour around the wetlands from the west. The Lavender family, alongside the Catreya family, was known as a military faction among the nobles.
It was also important to avoid doing anything that would exclude them from the development process and leave lingering resentments.
“Little by little… does that mean it’s not progressing well?”
“……..”
Urla nodded.
She only nodded… there was no further explanation.
“…The eastern side of the plains has a lot of wetlands, and there isn’t much flat land. This is hindering development.”
Standing up in Urla’s place was an unnamed woman.
According to Rest’s memory, she had been with Urla when they first met, a subordinate of the Lavender family.
“We are focusing on developing the flat areas. Regarding the wetlands, we would like to conduct an ecological survey of the monsters while assessing whether development is feasible. Depending on the situation, large-scale flood control works may be necessary… that’s all.”
After finishing the report from the Lavender family, Urla and the woman next to her took their seats.
“I see…”
Andrew had a subtle expression, as if he wanted to say something.
Most likely… the thought of the majority of those present at the round table lined up in one direction.
(You should have spoken up from the begining!)
Almost everyone, including Rest was thinking this.
“……..”
“For now… continue investigating the wetlands on the eastern side. Report if anything comes up.”
“……”
Urla nodded in response to Andrew’s words. As soon as she nodded, she shifted her attention back to Rest. Once again, the uncomfortable atmosphere set in.
“Alright, next, I’d like a report on the supplies.”
“Yes… we’ve gathered enough lumber and other materials. There are no shortages for now. However… we’re running low on stone, so we’ve placed an additional order with the Merchant Guild. We have enough funds by selling materials from the monsters.”
The man, who appeared to be a clerk, reported while holding some documents, but furrowed his brow with a troubled expression.
“We’re experiencing food shortages. The rapid increase in immigrants has led to a lack of wheat and other supplies. It seems there’s a delay in transportation as well.”
“I see… I’ll write a letter to hasten things. For now, that should suffice, right?”
“Yes, thank you.”
“Good… now, everyone.”
After hearing all the reports, Andrew looked around the round table once again. He made eye contact with each person in turn and began to speak in a clear, resonant voice.
“So far, the development is progressing smoothly. That’s excellent. However… as the saying goes, ‘good fortune attracts trouble,’ so I want you to be vigilant during this smooth phase. If anything happens, reporting is mandatory. Don’t hesitate to consult me.”
Everyone nodded and bowed to Andrew.
“Alright then, until the next scheduled report meeting. That’s all for today. Dismissed.”
With permission to leave, the people seated at the round table stood up one by one and exited the room.
