Chapter 172: This is a regular report meeting. What’s the problem?

It’s been a month since the development of the Sabnok Plains began.

The settlement, led by the second prince, Andrew, has grown significantly and is starting to resemble a small town. Initially, it was just a camp of tents, but now several cabins have been built from the wood that was transported in.

Merchants have opened shops, and even some eager migrants, who have somehow obtained permits, have started tilling the fields.

The development is progressing smoothly. More and more people are gathering, and everyone is witnessing the rapid transformation of this land.

“Well then, shall we begin the regular report meeting?”

With that, the meeting commenced in a building at the heart of the still-unnamed settlement. This building, much larger than the other cabins, housed a round table surrounded by chairs. Seated at one of these chairs was Andrew Iwood, the leader of this territory.

“Please report on your respective areas.”

“Yes, I’ll start with the outskirts of the settlement.”

At Andrew’s prompt, a woman stood up and began her report.

“The settlement is gradually expanding, centered around this village. We now have over three hundred immigrants, all of whom are working on fields in the designated areas.”

Andrew had recruited immigrants from all over the kingdom, offering them land to cultivate in exchange for their labor. As a result, many young people who couldn’t inherit their family’s land, as well as those who had lost their jobs or homes due to poverty, had gathered here.

“There’s plenty of land, so there’s been no trouble over it. However… at this rate, we might run out of food supplies.”

“I see… I’ll arrange for additional supplies. We have sufficient funds.”

Andrew nodded in response to his subordinate’s report.

“The northern plains, under the leadership of Marquis Catreya and Marquis Rosemary, are progressing without any issues.”

“The southern plains, under Duke Crocus, are also developing without problems.”

Representatives from each noble family continued their reports.

Finally, another figure seated at the table, Rest, stood up to give his report.

“As for the central plains, we’ve nearly finished exterminating most of the monsters. Soon, it might be time to set up the magic circle and begin the full-scale construction of the town.”

Rest reported to Andrew. Normally, development should proceed gradually from the outskirts to the center of the plains. However, the Sabnok Plains is a magic land, and the very center harbors a “Dragon Vein,” where magic energy surges forth. They needed to seal it with a magic circle and build a town quickly, or they risked the emergence of a new monster overlord.

“Yes, I’ll take care of that too. While we don’t have many skilled barrier mages, I’ll send a letter to the royal palace requesting priority on their allocation.”

Andrew nodded, seemingly satisfied. The central plains were set to become Andrew’s personal territory once he was officially made a duke, and he appeared relieved to see the development of his future domain progressing smoothly.

“I really must thank you for all your hard work, Count Clover. I will repay you for this one day.”

“I’m honored.”

Count Clover, slightly bowed and then sat down.

“Now, how is the development of the eastern plains going?”

“…………”

“Will the person in charge please report?”

“…………”

“Is there no one responsible for that area?”

“…………”

Andrew called out again, but the person in charge of the eastern plains still didn’t respond.

“Lady Urla Lavender, daughter of Margrave Lavender?”

“…………”

The one Andrew addressed was a small girl with bob-cut purple hair, sitting silently at the table. This was Urla Lavender. Her doll-like face remained expressionless, and she sat so still that one might mistake her for an actual doll placed on the chair.

“Mm…”

“…………”

Urla’s gaze was locked firmly on Rest, who sat on the opposite side of the table. What could she possibly find so amusing? Since the beginning of the meeting, her eyes had not left him.

(Why does she keep staring at me?)

Rest shifted uncomfortably in his seat. Ever since they first met a month ago, Rest had noticed Urla frequently appearing around the settlement. But she never spoke. She never approached him, and if he tried to talk to her, she would distance herself. Yet, from afar, she would always stare at him.

(It feels like I’m being haunted by a cursed doll… What did I do to deserve this?)

“Lady Urla Lavender! Are you listening?”

A man seated to Andrew’s right—Eusgos Betras—raised his voice. Even though Andrew was set to become a duke, it was still unacceptable to ignore the words of a prince.

“…………”

At last, Urla turned to face Andrew.

“The east… no changes.”

With just that brief mutter, Urla resumed her intense stare at Rest.

“Count Clover.”

“…Are you talking to me?”

Andrew shot a grim look in Rest’s direction. It was clear he expected him to do something. Sighing inwardly, Rest reluctantly addressed Urla.

“Um… Lady Urla Lavender?”

“…!”

Urla’s eyes suddenly widened as she fixed an even sharper gaze on him, like an arrow piercing through.

“Could you give us a more detailed report?”

“…………”

After a moment of silence, Urla slowly rose from her chair, her wide eyes still fixed on Rest.
