Chapter 156: Arriving at the Center of the Monster Realm
And so, Rest and his companions arrived at the depths of the plains. The center of the monster realm, the Sabnock Plains, was covered in grass as tall as an adult male. This was the first time both Rest and Lubase had come to this place. Faced with the unusually overgrown vegetation, everyone couldn’t help but gasp.
“This isn’t a forest, is it?”
“It should be a plain. It doesn’t look like one, though.”
In response to Rest’s murmuring, Lubase replied. Upon closer inspection, the tall grass before them was of the same type as the common weeds they had seen along the way. However, it was remarkably large. Just how much nutrition had it absorbed to grow this way? The grass had grown to an abnormal size, so dense that it obscured their vision and made it impossible to see even a meter ahead.
“I see… So this is the center of the monsterrealm. Just as I heard, it’s quite a strange place.”
Rest grabbed a handful of the grass and pulled it hard. As he did, golden particles resembling fireflies tumbled out from the torn end of the grass. The thick, visible magic power was packed within it. It seemed this plant had indeed absorbed the magic from the Dragon Vein to grow.
“Oh, wow! Is this beautiful light the magic? I can see it too!”
“That’s amazing… The rich magic makes it feel like I can hardly breathe…”
Yuri joyfully plucked the grass before her, releasing the magic particles, while Isis, her face pale, covered her mouth. Though Lubase wasn’t as excited as Yuri, he was curiously gazing at the particles of light emanating from the grass. The four young people stood enthralled before the mysterious scenery of the monster realm. Suddenly, Argyle’s voice cut through their excitement.
“Hey, enough of that! We are already at the center of the monster realm!”
Compared to the young ones, Argyle, the adult knight, maintained a sense of tension. He shouted at the youngsters, his voice cold like water.
“We don’t know when a monster, enhanced by the magic power of this realm, might attack! If you’re going to keep up the picnic atmosphere, then hurry back—”
“GAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!”
“Retreat… huh?”
A black, lion-like monster leaped out from the thicket behind them, lunging at Argyle’s back. The tall grass had delayed their reaction. The lion’s fangs were closing in on his defenseless back.
“Take that!”
“Fire Bullet!”
The two who moved immediately were surprisingly… Yuri and Isis. Yuri picked up a stone from the ground and threw it, while Isis cast a fire spell. The stone and fire hit the lion’s forehead simultaneously, startling the monster.
“[Wind Blade][Amplification][Acceleration]!”

“Gya…”
Then, Rest also unleashed his magic. The combined spells sliced through the lion, which had been frozen in place.
“That was close! Are you okay?”
“Ugh…”
Yuri cheerfully called out, but Argyle grimaced. He had been about to scold the young ones, yet here he was, saved by them. He must have felt quite awkward.
“It seems we are already in the lair of the monsters… It’s best to remain vigilant.”
“Yeah, that’s true…”
Lubase tightened his grip on the hilt of his sword, scanning the surroundings for threats. Rest narrowed his eyes and glared at the grass around them.
(My [Presence Detection] isn’t working well… The surrounding magic is too dense…)
Rest was using his limitless magic to keep the [Presence Detection] spell activated at all times. Normally, he wouldn’t be caught off guard, but the thick magic energy interfered with his ability to sense anything.

(After all, [Presence Detection] is a spell that senses the magic of living beings… The grass all around is filled with dense magic, making it difficult to detect the presence of monsters.)
Moreover, the tall grass obstructed their view, necessitating even greater caution.
“Still, you’re amazing, Isis.”
As they remained on guard, Rest praised Isis.
“Even if it’s a low-level spell, being able to cast it at that speed is impressive.”
Before Rest could unleash his magic, Isis had already cast hers. While Rest’s magic power far surpassed hers, in terms of the speed of instantaneous activation, Isis was superior.
“R-Really? Being praised like that makes me feel embarrassed…”
Isis’s face turned red as she shyly accepted Rest’s compliment. It was a surprisingly cute attitude for Isis, the strong-willed leader of the student council.
“Rest, I also did something!”
“Yeah… great job, great job.”
Yuri also claimed credit for her actions. Rest responded with a nonchalant compliment.
“Honestly… your reflexes and strength are impressive for a student in the magic department. Your physical abilities are on par with a gorilla.”
“Hmm, I don’t really understand what you mean by ‘gorilla,’ so it doesn’t quite feel like a compliment… but I’ll take it!”
Yuri crossed her arms proudly and puffed out her chest.
“Now then… in any case, let’s continue our investigation. You’re okay, right, Argyle?”
“…No problem.”
Argyle replied, nodding reluctantly.
