Chapter 122: Summoned to the Royal Palace
A few days later, Rest received the invitation and visited the royal palace. Though he wasn’t exactly looking forward to it, the day had come for him to be knighted in recognition of his achievements in defeating the monster Sabnock.
Rest arrived at the royal palace in the carriage of Marquis Rosemary, his patron. Despite his usual disdain for dressing up, today he wore elegant noble attire befitting the special occasion. The Rosemary sisters, Viola and Primula, were similarly dressed in their finest, looking splendid in their formal gowns.
“At last! The day has finally arrived!”
Viola exclaimed.
“I’m so happy that Rest-sama’s accomplishments are being recognized!”
Primula chipped in.
For some reason, Viola and Primula seemed more excited about the day than Rest himself.
“Shall we? I’ll need your arm.”
“Please escort us.”
“Sure… your hand, my ladies.”
Rest replied, offering his arms to Viola and Primula as they entered the palace together. They were guided by a butler through hallways lined with alabaster walls and columns until they reached the room where the ceremony would take place – the audience chamber for meeting the king.
“Ugh…”
In front of the audience chamber’s doors, one of the waiting figures grimaced at the sight of them.
“Hey, ‘ugh’ is not the way to greet someone. How rude.”
Rest retorted.
“Shut up… walking around with women on each arm, doesn’t that make your skin crawl?”
Wilhelm Lubase, known as the ‘Misogynist Sword Saint’. While Rest was in his noble attire, Lubase wore a more rugged ceremonial knight’s outfit. He had arrived alone, without any partners to escort.
“Escorting women in gowns, even when it’s not a party… aren’t you embarrassed?”
Ad
“If it were a party, would you be able to escort a woman? Mr. Woman-Phobic Lubase?”
“No way! And I’m not ‘phobic,’ I just ‘hate’ women!”
Lubase snapped back.
Viola, standing beside Rest, whispered in his ea.
“Rest… could that person be…”
“Yes, that’s Lubase, a first-year in the knight course.”
“He doesn’t quite match the image… I’ve heard he’s a remarkable swordsman.”
Indeed, from the current Lubase, there was no hint of his fearsome swordsmanship. His presence weakened considerably when he was around women.
“Hey, Rest. You’ve come.”
Another voice said.

“Ugh…”
A woman in a knight’s outfit addressed Rest, causing Lubase to step back hurriedly. Emerging in his place was a striking figure dressed in the same knight’s attire – a beautiful person who would be mistaken for a man if not for her feminine features.
“Hello, Carbelt-senpai.”
Isis Carbelt, a third-year in the knight course and leader of the student council executive committee, was known for her sharp, striking features. Her popularity among female students had even earned her a fan club at the academy.
“Carbelt-senpai, you were also invited to the palace?”
“Yes. I, too, am to be conferred the title of ‘Baron.’ It seems my role as leader in the student rescue efforts during the Sabnock incident was recognized… though I never even encountered the monster, so calling it an achievement feels hollow.”
She replied with a wry smile.
The first rank for the Sabnock achievement went to Rest, the second to Lubase, and the third to Isis. These three were the only students from the royal academy to be knighted.
“We are tasked with developing the Sabnock plains, and we’ll be granted territories accordingly… but there’s a significant event before that.”
“Ha… it’s about dealing with that foolish traitor. It’s appalling that such a high-ranking person is involved.”
Lubase added, clicking his tongue in disdain. Both seemed aware of Marquis Aiger’s rebellion.
“You two will be participating in quelling the rebellion as well?”
“Of course, as a member of the Rosemary Marquis family, I must.”
“As a knight, I cannot tolerate those who betray the royal family.”
Lubase declared.
“I see… I feel very reassured knowing you and Wilhelm are on our side. By the way… um…”
Isis suddenly averted her gaze, her words trailing off. Her strange behavior was a stark contrast to the composed demeanor she had displayed just moments earlier.
“Are you guys… skilled in things like sniping monsters?”
She asked hesitantly.
“Sniping…?”
Rest repeated.
“Yes, you know, like using magic to shoot targets from unseen distances…”
“………?”
Why was she suddenly asking about this? Could it have something to do with the mission to subdue Marquis Aiger?
“I can only use a sword. I’ve never done any sniping.”
“It’s a bit of a specialty of mine. Is there something specific you need?”
“I… I see. No, that’s fine. Just checking.”
Isis said awkwardly, abruptly ending the conversation and looking away.
“Carbelt-senpai…?”
Rest called out.

“Now, it’s time for our audience with His Majesty the King! Both of you, make sure not to be too tense!”
She commanded, trying to sound authoritative.
“Uh, yes, right.”
Rest agreed, though puzzled by Isis’s odd demeanor. However, with the audience and knighting ceremony imminent, there was no time to dwell on it.
The Rosemary sisters, standing beside Rest with straightened backs and a sense of vigilance, narrowed their eyes warily.
