Chapter 100: The Fanatic Minister acts behind the scene

Rodel and his two attendants advance across the plain.

Rodel, who continues to move forward without looking around, seems unconcerned, but if he continues like this, he will inadvertently step into the territory of Sabnock, the ruler of this land, deep within the plain.

“Good grief… He really seems likely to cause trouble. That foolish prince.”

A middle-aged man clad in black mutters as he watches Rodel from afar.

He hides in the shadows of the trees scattered across the plain, occasionally using illusion magic, silently tailing behind Rodel.

(Indeed, His Majesty the King is worried… especially since he’s already trying to enter the monster territory. In a sense, it’s worth monitoring him, isn’t it?)

The man is one of the court mages, in other words, a vassal of King Aiwood, Rodel’s father.

Because Rodel announced his participation in the Monster Hunting Festival, this man was sent as a surveillance officer to ensure he doesn’t cause any trouble.

(And as expected, he’s already trying to enter the forbidden area… He never fails to disappoint, in a bad sense.)

If Rodel continues like this, he will enter the forbidden territory of Sabnock.

Stimulating a huge monster that has repeatedly annihilated colonization parties is something that should not happen.

(I almost wish I could use Prince Rodel as bait for the monsters… No, that’s not feasible, though.)

The surveillance mage sighed.

The reason why the king hasn’t taken any action against Rodel, nor confined him to the palace, is because Rodel is a significant troublemaker.

If anything were to happen to Rodel, members of the Queen Dowager’s faction or neighboring countries might take action.

Because it’s unknown what impact Rodel’s death could have, the king refrains from rash actions.

“For now… I must stop that foolish prince.”

If things continue like this, Rodel will enter the restricted area.

He must be stopped before that happens, even if force is necessary.

The surveillance officer emerges from the shadows of the trees, intending to appear before Rodel.

“Can’t let you do that.”

However… before the surveillance officer could reveal himself, a chilling voice sounded from uncomfortably close range.

“What…!?”

Startled by the voice whispered in his ear, the surveillance officer hastily prepared himself, but before he could react, he was struck from behind on the neck.

A strong impact pierced from his neck to his brain, causing him to collapse to the ground without making a sound.

“Gah…”

Lying on the ground, the surveillance officer coughed weakly.

As he crawled on the ground, struggling to raise his head, he saw a familiar face standing there.

Wide-eyed, the surveillance officer called out the person’s name.

“You… Are… Marquis Eiger…!”

Berlio Eiger.

He was Rodel’s guardian and a leading figure in the Queen Dowager’s faction.

Although he was said to have been a renowned magician in his youth… he had just effortlessly taken down the man who should have been one of the chosen elites of the king.

“Why… are you…?”

“It’s quite disappointing for a mage of your caliber to be taken from behind by an old man like me. Are you planning to stop His Highness?”

“Are you… an idiot…? Do you intend to… defy His Majesty the King…?”

“The king? I couldn’t care less about the king. Everything that man says is right. It’s not allowed to defy him!”

While uttering words of blind faith, Eiger raised his hand.

A one-meter-long icicle appeared in his hand.

With trembling lips, Eiger directed the sharp tip of the icicle towards the fallen man.

“Everything is according to the will of the great Queen Dowager…”

“Stop…”

Eiger mercilessly swung down the icicle.

With a wet sound, red blood splattered onto Aiger’s face.

The man’s body lost its strength, and a dark red stain spread on the ground.

“Now, Rodel-sama. Please, do as you wish. It’s all according to the will of the Queen Dowager. Everything is predetermined…”

Eiger wore a blissful smile.

Turning away from the lifeless man, he looked in the direction of the day after tomorrow.

In the distance… Rodel led his two attendants, walking towards the depths of the plain.

Without noticing the observer, Rodel’s back disappeared into the distance. Watching it fade, Eiger bent his hip and bowed his head deeply.
