Just another Isekai Lover~

Chapter 24: Arachne

Spiders can attack from the air using threads. In that case, our attacks won’t reach them. It’d be dangerous to fight in this spacious area.

“Hurry back to the passage we came from!”

I called out to Mia and let her go ahead. I also erected the “Heart Wall” barrier around myself and headed towards the path we came from. Along the way, I encountered several attacks, but the barrier deflected them all.

We managed to get back to the passage we came from.

We didn’t come here to escape. We came to fight. The passage had a diameter of about 3 meters. Our attacks should reach the creatures on the ceiling as well.

We turned around to face the pursuing spiders.

“I’ll take the front. Mia, I’ll leave the spiders I miss to you! Preserve your SP!”

“Got it”

Both Mia and I didn’t have much SP to spare. It would be dangerous if the battle dragged on.

To efficiently utilize the terrain for the fight… I extended the light blade of my lightsaber to 3 meters with 10 SP. I held the grip at the center of my body and rotated it like a fan, drawing a circular motion with that pivot point.

Most of the baby spiders were on the ceiling, walls, and ground. I kept spinning in a tracing motion. The SP10 light blade vaporized the spiderlings just by touching them, turning them into black smoke.

Mia, who was in the back, took care of the spiders I missed.

I couldn’t look back due to the lack of spare energy, but the sounds of “bwyn” and “bwon” assured me that she was doing fine.

To tell the truth, I was worried that the light blade might hit me, but I didn’t tell Mia that I was afraid of it.

In the midst of the chaotic battle, occasionally thick threads flew at incredible speed. It was the Arachne’s long-range attack. Without the barrier, we would have been easily defeated. But for us now, it wasn’t a threat.

When most of the spiderlings were defeated, the larger arachne moved across the ceiling at a tremendous speed.

But  it’s a bad move in this narrow passage. After all, the light blade of the lightsaber can reach the ceiling.

I synchronize the spinning motion of the lightsaber like a fan with the timing of Arachne rushing in.

Bwon, zubababababa!

The Arachne tried to defend by crossing both hands.

However, the upper body along with the defending arm was cut horizontally and turned into a black smoke.

I confirmed the position of another arachne.

The one whose eyes met with me flipped her body and ran away. But just then, a small hole opened in the back of the Arachne’s head.

It was Mia who attacked with a slingshot.

It hadn’t turned into black smoke yet.

I approached the stunned Arachne, thrust the lightsaber into its abdomen, and slashed upward.

The Arachne, which had been split in half vertically, disappeared in a puff of black smoke.

Now, there are about 10 baby spiders left as the remaining creatures.

Since my remaining SP was becoming critical, I left the rest to Mia.

— After the battle

“Good job. It would have been dangerous to fight in the spacious mining area.”

Mia nodded with an exhausted expression.

“Are there really people who can defeat them without a barrier? When you try to defend against those threads with shields or swords, you get entangled and can’t move. They must have been pretty high-ranked monsters…”

It’s certainly as Mia says.

If you engage in a direct fight, that thread is pretty troublesome. Our equipment was a good match, so we were able to win. But it might be better to think a little about reporting to the Adventurer’s Guild.

After collecting the magic stones, we decided to return to the town.

We returned to the city of Barcely.

Before entering the city, I took out the magic stones necessary for the completion report of the quest from the plush pocket. There were a lot of rat magic stones, so the bags filled with magic stones were up to four.

The Arachne magic stones are likely to attract attention, so I’m considering whether to sell them or not.

We entered the Adventurer’s Guild.

I asked the woman at the reception to report the completion of the quest and buy the magic stones.

When the receptionist saw the four bags full of magic stones, she looked at me with shock and  a twitch in her cheeks

“Ah, um… Did you two defeat these?” she asked.

“Yes. These are the magic stones from 30 goblins and 10 rats. This is for the quest. In addition, we have around 300 rat magic stones,” I replied.

“300! Are all these from the giant rats in the abandoned mine?”

I nodded, keeping silent about the Arachne.

“While hunting rats in the abandoned mine, they were called by their comrades endlessly, and it turned out like this.”

“… With this quantity, you may have exterminated all the rats in the abandoned mine. And with the completion of previous E-rank quests and the achievement of the rat extermination, you might be promoted to D-rank. Let me confirm with my superior. Please wait a moment.”

After a while, we were guided to the room at the far end of the second-floor corridor, where the guild master wanted to speak with us directly.

“I have brought the members of Arrange,” the receptionist said.

When we entered the room, a blond elf man was sitting in the chair behind the desk.

Everything he wore looked high-quality and luxurious.

Apparently, this elf man was the guild master.

“Well done. You’re free now,” he said.

The receptionist left the room.

Then it was just the two of us, and the Guildmaster.
