Chapter 32: The Heroine’s Hero

“Lloyd-sama! Before you change your mind, let’s finish the registration!”

As soon as Kane and his group were out of sight, Lilina hugged me, apparently thrilled that I had declared her as a member of my party. Her silver ears and tail were twitching happily.

To confirm once more, I gave a villainous smile, much like Lloyd from the anime.

“Just so you know, if you join my party, life will be quite tough. I’m hated all over town. If you’re okay with that—”

“Yes, I’d be delighted to join you!”

“No, at least think about it a little before answering.”

Lilina beamed at me, speaking eagerly. She blushed slightly, looking up at me.

“I’ll stay with you forever, Lloyd-sama.”

“Uh.”

Her straightforward words made my heart race.

…As expected of this anime’s heroine. Her words and occasional expressions can really make my heart skip a beat.

“Lloyd-sama? Your face looks a bit red.”

“It’s just your imagination. I’m fine.”

When I tried to push Lilina away by placing my hands on her shoulders, she misunderstood it as a hug and smiled even more.

“Hehe♪”

…Her unconscious charm is terrifying.

I gently patted Lilina’s shoulder and pointed to the adventurer’s guild counter.

“Look, let’s get the registration done. Let’s go.”

“Oh, right! Lloyd-sama, let’s hurry!”

My voice cracked slightly as I said that. Lirina snapped out of her daze and let go of me.

Smiling at her ever-changing expressions, I led Lirina to the counter.

There, we found Remi-san, the clerk who had helped me with my adventurer rank before.

“Excuse me, we’d like to register a party.”

“Register a party?”

Remi glanced at Lilina beside me and frowned. She seemed to want to say something but then turned back to Lilina.

“Um, young lady, do you really want to join a party with Lloyd?”

“? Yes, I do.”

Lilina tilted her head cutely, not understanding the implication.

I could guess what Remi-san was getting at.

She narrowed her eyes at me again before whispering to Lilina.

“Has he blackmailed you or deceived you in any way? Did he force you to come here or coerce you?”

I winced at her clear accusation. But it’s understandable.

No one in town likes Lloyd, so it would be suspicious if someone willingly joined his party.

As a guild employee, it’s normal to want to stop this.

While I was lost in thought, Lilina stepped away from Remi.

“Please don’t speak ill of Lloyd-sama.”

Lilina glared at Remi.

“Huh? No, no! I wasn’t speaking ill of him, just talking generally—Wait, Lloyd-sama?”

Surprised by the unexpected reaction, Remi was flustered.

Then, Lilina leaned over the counter, glaring even more intensely at Remi.

“Lloyd-sama is my savior! He gave me expensive potions for free when we first met, fought dangerous monsters for my sick mother, and he’s truly a kind person! Don’t speak ill of my hero!!”

Lilina’s voice echoed through the guild, making it go silent for a moment.

…First a protagonist, now a hero, huh?

Glancing around, I saw everyone staring at us in disbelief.

Those who know Lloyd would find this hard to believe.

On reflection, it’s not the kind of behavior the Lloyd from the anime would exhibit.

Yeah, it’s natural to be surprised.

“Lilina, calm down. I’m okay, alright?”

I patted her head, trying to soothe her.

“…Lloyd helping someone?”

Remi looked at me with eyes full of disbelief after hearing Lilina’s words.

Well, that’s understandable. If I were in her place, I’d react the same way.

I sighed softly and returned my gaze to Remi.

“Remi, we’d like to register our party, please.”

“Y-Yes, understood.”

In the unusually silent adventurer’s guild, the only sound was Remi moving about.

Other adventurers were also watching us intently, creating an awkward atmosphere.

I scratched my cheek and spoke to ease the tension.

“By the way, the monsters in the nearby forest were acting strangely. There were monsters at the top of the forest that shouldn’t be there, and there were many at the bottom as well.”

“What? Did you go to the forest recently?”

“Yes, I had some business at the top of the forest. Is it normal for the ecology of the forest’s monsters to change so drastically in just a few days?”

As I reported the forest events conversationally, Remi’s movements came to a sudden halt.

She looked at me with a conflicted expression, as if wrestling with something.

“Remi?”

Did I say something weird?

“Lloyd, could I have a moment of your time?”

“Huh? Sure, that’s fine.”

Nodding slightly at Remi’s decisive words, I furrowed my brow.

An adventurer guild employee wanting to talk to Lloyd?

It was an unexpected development, leaving me puzzled.
