Chapter 430: Information Transfer

After returning from the castle to the inn where Ragune and the others are staying, Tauro briefly explained what had happened and decided on their next course of action.

He decided the only way was to make it look like they were gathering information by touring the territory for a few days and accepting quests at the Adventurers’ Guild as appropriate.

“I understand gathering information within the capital, but I don’t understand the point of taking on quests.”

Ankh tilted his head at Tauro’s suggestion.

Ragune and Zion did the same and tilted their heads in the same way.

“I thought we should do quests like usual, since it would be a waste of time.”

“That’s the reason?”

 Ragune asked in shock.

“Also, I was thinking of making the excuse that we got the information about the party that day through a kind of adventurers’ information network. Those guys following us will probably be confused by our strange behavior, but I think that will give more credibility to the information we provide.”

“Well, they will doubt our information, since they will usually interpret it as something they should have been able to get themselves just by normal, common-sense activities around the territory.”

Ankh tried to imagine himself from the other person’s perspective.

“…I see. So if we act inexplicably, the other side will interpret it in a way that suits us! That’s impressive, Lord Tauro!”

 Zion praised Tauro as usual.

“So try to waste time as little time as possible and do what you want to do. That’s impressive!”

Ragune also understood what Tauro was trying to do and nodded vigorously.

“So, for the next few days, I want you all to go around the capital as you like.”

“then, in that case.”

Ankh responded with a wry smile.

“Ankh, you can just go to the bar or brothel as you normally do.”

“Oi, hey, leader! You promised not to talk about that!”

Ankh panicked, concerned about the ladies around, Ragune and Zion.

“Hahahaha! What the hell, Ankh. I don’t mind at all, okay? Might keep my distance for a bit, though.”

Ragune says and distances herself from Ankh a little.

It was probably a joke, but it had a great effect on Ankh.

“Ragune ……, please spare me …….”

“A, Ankh-san is also a man, so I, I also do not mind!”

Zion must have imagined it, as she blushed and answered flustered.

“Leader ……. I’m the only one who’s been badly burned, aren’t I. ……”

 Ankh looked at Tauro reproachfully.

“S-Sorry. I forgot. …… You two, Ankh is a man, so you should understand.”

Tauro’s follow-up made Ankh sound like a poor man, and Ankh protested this.

“When Leader gets older he’ll be no different from me!”

“Ankh-san, please don’t say things like that that belittle Tauro-dono!”

This time zion protests to Ankh, defending Tauro.

“Ankh, Zion both of you need to calm down. Anyway, for the next few days, you are all free to move around the capital, and in the second half of the day, we will go to the Adventurers’ Guild as usual and do some quests.”

Tauro hurriedly retrieved the seeds he had sown.

Ankh and Shion didn’t seem pacified, but nodded their heads and spent the next few days freely, not worrying about being followed.

There were only two tails, one of whom was always following Tauro, the leader of the Black-Golden Wings.

The other continued to keep watch by alternating between Ankh and ragune, but was beginning to get suspicious as Tauro and his group’s behavior seemed too normal.

Then they received a quest order from the Adventurers’ Guild.

The two men tailing them were unable to understand this inexplicable behavior, just as Tauro had hoped.

“What’s going on? In the end, today ended with them exterminating the monsters that were destroying the fields of another village.”

“No, after defeating them, he seemed to have had a long talk with the village chief. I am sure that was for the purpose of obtaining this information?”

Tauro and his group had simply completed a quest, been thanked by the village chief, and were engaged in small talk, but the two tailing them were trying to convince themselves by interpreting it in their own convenient way.

They had no idea that Tauro and the others were just killing time because they didn’t need to gather information.

In this way, Tauro and his group spent the time until the party, ten days before its scheduled date, appropriately.

“There are still three days until the date we agreed to get the information, but let’s go and report to the village chief early.”

Tauro replied to the members at the Adventurers’ Guild when he reported the completion of their quest.

“A little too soon, don’t you think?”

Ankh tilted his head at Tauro’s decision.

“I’ll make up a suitable reason for that. Hahahaha.”

Tauro laughed, giving an evasive reply, after which they all went to the hidden village to report to the village chief.

“There’s still plenty of time before the deadline, but have you got the information yet?”

The village chief looked suspiciously at Tauro, as if he had received some reports from the tails.

“Yes, the reason I came early is because it seems that someone has been following me recently, so I thought it would be better to give you the information quickly and get this job done. Besides, I thought I had obtained enough information that you wanted, so there was no need to investigate any further.”

Tauro casually blamed it on the village chief sending people to follow them.

“I see, a tail! Well it can’t be helped. Perhaps someone had noticed you and your companions sniffing around. –Then, could you tell me what information you obtained?”

The village chief instinctively did not pursue the matter of being tailed.

After all, he knew that they were the one’s tailing us.

The village chief continued the discussion without any signs of concern.

Without pointing this out, Tauro handed the chief a stack of papers with information written on them from his magic storage.

“W-well this is! This information is much more detailed than I imagined…! I actually had our people look into it, but they couldn’t gather this much information. It looks more accurate than our collaborators on the inside!”

The village chief was honestly surprised and pleased as he checked each and every piece of information he was given.

 Seeing this reaction,

Collaborators? I knew it. …… I’m glad I prepared accurate information. my father said that he didn’t give the full details to the captain of the security force either,  just in case, so it’s only natural that my information is more accurate than any other. ……

Tauro broke out into a cold sweat, but he was relieved that it was within the realm of his expectations, at least for the moment.
