Chapter 482: The Saint’s Party Sets Up Camp
Following behind the Crown Prince at a slight distance, the Saint and the rest of the Kingdom of Luwan’s group and their escorts arrived late to the scene, having hesitated upon hearing of a monster attack up ahead. By the time they arrived, they were able to witness Tauro and the others from Black-Golden Wings in action.
”I’m astonished… Lady Aeris isn’t just a marquis’s daughter, is she?”
Saint Mathilda was genuinely impressed by Aeris, who was the same age as her, having just seen her in action dealing with monsters.
”Not just Lady Aeris—Lord Tauro’s performance was also outstanding. Ogres are formidable monsters with high physical resistance. Even the Royal Guards of the Sart Kingdom took some casualties. And yet they managed to handle them so easily… I had heard they were strong, but seeing it with my own eyes is another matter entirely.”
Marquis Donaisson had already completely lost faith in the Crown Prince’s party, but Tauro and his group were a different story. He gave them high praise.
“Well, they’re adventurers, so it’s understandable that they’re skilled at slaying monsters. Are ogres really that strong?”
It seemed Mathilda briefly considered that she, as a Saint, could have done the same.
”Saint, please don’t even think about trying that,”
Marquis Donaisson immediately warned, seeing through her thoughts.
Then he added:
”More importantly, Saint, wouldn’t it be a good idea to show your gratitude to the guards by healing the wounded?”
But there was no need.
Treatment for the wounded had already begun, thanks to Tauro’s healing potions and Aeris and Zion’s healing magic.
By the time Saint Mathilda stepped down from her carriage and walked over, most of the Royal Guards had already been treated.
”What’s this? There aren’t any wounded left. I guess the damage wasn’t that bad after all,” Mathilda remarked to Aeris, who had just finished a round of healing.
“Even with this, some people were seriously injured. They recovered thanks to Tauro’s potions and our healing magic.”
Aeris responded, cautioning Saint Matilda.
“Even for me, it takes time to treat someone who is seriously injured. There’s no way regular potions and spells could heal someone that instantly.”
Saint Mathilda wasn’t wrong—that is, under normal circumstances.
But Tauro had a large stock of precious intermediate and above level healing potions that he had made himself, and Aeris and Zion had learned advanced healing magic directly from the people of the Dragon tribe, which was beyond what ordinary people could hope to even imitate.
And if that weren’t enough, Aeris could even use “Blessing,” a power believed to be exclusive to Saints, so it’s wrong to compare her to normal people.
”That’s just what we—the Black-Golden Wings—are capable of, Mathilda. There’s always someone stronger than you in this world. Of course, even I have someone above me(Like the true Saint)—those who’ve mastered magic far superior and skills.”
Aeris calmly explained to Saint Matilda, as if she is admonishing her.
”But I am a Saint, you know? I’m an existence that hasn’t appeared on the surface in over a century. There’s no way there’s anyone greater than me. That’s an interesting thing to say.”
Mathilda took it as a joke, unwilling to believe someone could surpass her status.
”Honestly, I’d love to introduce you to someone—for your own future benefit… (glancing at Tauro)… but well, I’ll think about that later.”
Aeris seemed to realize it would be pointless to say more and dropped the subject.
Soon after, Marquis Donaisson, having spoken with the Crown Prince, who is in charge, returned to report what they’ve decided on,
”Saint, unfortunately, due to the attack, we’ve lost a significant amount of time. It seems we won’t make it to the next village before nightfall. Therefore, we’ve decided to find a clearing and set up camp.”
”Ugh, really…?”
Mathilda, who had endured a bumpy wagon ride all day, wasn’t happy. Sleeping in a warm bed was the only real comfort she had on this journey, and now that was gone. She scowled.
After passing through the forest, the group arrived at a clearing just as the sun began to set. Preparations for camping started immediately. They immediately began preparing to set up camp.
The Royal Guards pitched tents made from waterproof cloths crafted by of course, Giro Sugar.
Magical lanterns were lit to illuminate the area.
As this was their first time camping, these items had been left loaded onto the wagon and hadn’t had a chance to be used, but they were finally being put to use.
Only a few people knew the truth—that Giro Sugar was actually Tauro—so he couldn’t brag about it, but seeing his creations being used still made him happy.
”Tauro, let’s get our own camp set up as well.”
Aeris urges Tauro to unpack his luggage.
”Oh, right! Sorry, I got a little excited seeing all this. Alright, Ragune, Ankh, Zion—can you guys handle the tent?”
As Tauro said this, he took out an original tent made of water-resistant cloth from his magic storage and handed it over.
”Then I guess I’ll… hmm… yeah, I’ll set up a barrier around the area, just in case,”
Aeris said after some thought. She had hesitated because she had just watched the barrier mage from the Crown Prince’s party finish setting up a barrier to ward off monsters. However, the range was laughably small—barely enough to cover the prince’s entourage and a bit of the Saint’s group.
With ease, Aeris expanded her own barrier—taught to her by True Saint Maria—to completely envelop the entire area.
”!?!”
The barrier mage looked up, surprised by the new barrier appearing overhead. Looking around, he assumed someone from the Kingdom of Luwan had cast it and started asking around.
Even the mages on the Kingdom of Luwan side began murmuring amongst themselves, trying to figure out who had done it.
”This is going to be trouble later. You should probably tell them it was you who set it up, Aeris,” Tauro advised.
”Sigh… fine,” Aeris sighed at Tauro’s comment and went off to explain that it was her magic in order to calm the commotion.
While Tauro was lighting a fire for the stove he’d pulled out from his magic storage, Aeris and the other mages around were making a fuss—albeit this time a different kind.
Praises for Aeris could be heard here and there.,,
”As I thought, Aeris really leveled up her magic quite a bit while we were apart … Still, what exactly did the Dragon people teach her to make her this powerful? Even Zion grew remarkably fast… Maybe I should’ve trained at the ‘Dragon’s Lair’ too,” Tauro muttered while cooking.
”N-No, Tauro! You mustn’t! That hellish place is not something you enter lightly…! Damn it, just kill me now…!”
Ragune must have heard what he was saying, as she grabbed Tauro’s shoulder to stop him.
She muttered her usual catchphrase in anguish.
Beside her, Zion was nodding furiously.
”Please, Lord Tauro, stay just the way you are! The ‘Dragon’s Lair’ is a no-go! Damn it… I must live!”
She also added her usual phrase, firmly opposing the idea.
