Chapter 462: Praise for the Saint

Led by the soldiers of the duke’s territory, Tauro and his companions were escorted to the duke’s mansion while being showered with enthusiastic cheers from the residents.

Just moments ago, these same residents had been cheering for the real Saint and her entourage but now they were going wild at the sight of the group that had extinguished the four fires that had almost turned catastrophic in an instant.

Of course, it was Aeris they were cheering for, not the actual Saint…

“What was that carriage carrying the Saint that we saw earlier?”

“She probably wasn’t even inside it!”

“Ah, that makes sense! That’s why they are here now!”

As Tauro’s group was led by the soldiers, the residents mistook Aeris’s beautiful appearance for that of the Saint and began to express their gratitude in overwhelming cheers for their miraculous fire-fighting efforts.

“Thank you!”

“You saved our homes from being burned down!”

“She looks just like a saint!”

Tauro and his group were left confused and at a loss as to what to do.

“Commander, as I’ve said many times before, we are just followers of the Saint, and Aeris is not the Saint herself.”

Amidst the cheers, Tauro stepped closer to the leading soldier commander to explain the situation once more.

“Huh? What did you just say? I can hardly hear you; could you repeat that?”

The commander, struggling to hear over the loud cheers around them, seems to have misheard Tauro’s explanation and asked him to repeat himself.

Tauro explained again in a loud voice so that his words wouldn’t be drowned out by the crowd,

“So, let me clarify! Aeris is NOT the Saint!”

“Don’t worry! You don’t have to deny it over and over again; I understand!”

The commander of the military unit still seems to misunderstand that Tauro and his companions were just being modest like celebrities.

This isn’t getting through…!

Frustrated, Tauro turned to Aeris and shook his head, and Aeris herself sighed in exasperation.

Leaving behind the enthusiastic residents, Tauro’s group was then led to the duke’s mansion.

Once inside, Tauro showed the pen with the family crest he had received from Duke Bariella and explained the situation.

Of course, the Duke Bariella himself was busy in the royal capital, so his son, Viscount Musai, listened to the explanation in his place.

“I see… I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. And thank you for extinguishing the fire in the city. I’ve heard much about you from my father, Lord Tauro. I was actually the one who was entrusted with selecting that pen as a gift for you,”

The Prime Minister’s son, Viscount Musai said with a smile, patting Tauro on the shoulder.

Viscount Musai, the Prime Minister’s eldest son, is a middle-aged gentleman in his mid-thirties, and like the Prime Minister, he had an air of intelligence and possesses a physique that suggests he is also skilled in martial arts.

“Is that so? Thank you for such a fine gift!”

Tauro expressed his gratitude for the present.

“Haha! You’ve already given me more than enough as return for my gift with the commotion earlier, so there is no need to thank me. -As for the matter of the Saint, we’ll handle it appropriately on our own. I’m sure that the daughter of Marquis Vandyne would not be happy to be called that in front of the True Saint.”

Viscount Musai said, giving a slight nod to Aeris, who was standing behind Tauro.

“Thank you, Viscount Musai. So, where is the Saint and her entourage now?”

“They are currently being shown to prepared rooms where they can rest. You will all be guided there as well. A welcome party will be held shortly, so please take this time to relax. —Show them to the special rooms,”

Viscount Musai answered Tauro’s question and had his servants lead them to a different room than that of the Saint and the rest of her entourage.

The group was separated into pairs, men and women, and escorted to luxurious special rooms.

While important figures such as the other Saint, Marquis Donaison representing the Kingdom of luwan, and the Crown prince of the Kingdom of Sart were assigned private rooms, due to their numbers, the others were accommodated in sufficiently large rooms prepared for each group. This meant Tauro and his companions were receiving special treatment, so to speak.

This preferential treatment led to some speculation among the entourage who were not aware of the situation.

However, most of the speculation originated from the grandson of Marquis Haragura and his followers, suggesting that the daughter of Marquis Vandyne had used her status to demand special treatment from the Duke’s side.

This speculation also reached the ears of the Crown prince, who demanded an explanation from Viscount Musai, the Duke’s representative. The Viscount clarified that that it was a token of gratitude for Aeris and her companions’ significant contribution to extinguishing the fire in the castle town. He added that Aeris and her group had attributed that achievement to the Saint, and thus praised the Crown Prince, the responsible party, commending him for his thorough guidance.

It seemed the prince was somewhat pleased with this explanation, deciding not to pursue the matter further.

“Am I really so popular in the city right now?”

When Saint Matilda heard the explanation from her entourage from the Kingdom of Ruwan, she did not understand the reason behind it.

“They say that it was thanks to the influence of the Saint that the fire in the city was put out. The residents are all praising you, saying ‘Long live the Saint!’ It’s the most enthusiastic atmosphere we’ve encountered yet,”

One of her followers enthusiastically recounted the rumors they heard in the city.

Those around her who had heard the rumors in the castle town praised Matilda highly.

“Is that so?—Well, that’s fine. If they have such high expectations of me, I suppose I should put in a bit more effort for tomorrow’s ‘Blessing’,”

Saint Mathilda said, her mood brightening.

Of course, this was a result of the praise directed at Aeris, but neither the Crown prince nor Viscount Musai, nor even Aeris and her group would convey this truth to Mathilda.
