Chapter 425: A Morning of Gratitude

 Dawn is approaching.

Light is slowly beginning to shine into the night sky.

“…Father…Sensei? Are you awake already?”

Haku woke up a little early because he heard the two of them making noise in the living room.

“Ah, Haku, I’m sorry, I must have woken you up!”

Cross, just after taking the wonder medicine, stood up in a hurry.

 And then–…

“……! No way. ……?!”

Cross found himself smoothly on his feet.

“Father, ……?”

Haku was puzzled by the surprised look on his father Cross’s face.

Cross checked his right arm by repeatedly clenching and opening his hand, as if to check its movement.

“I’m m-moving ……! Haku!”

Cross grabbed the confused Haku’s arm and pulled him into a hug.

“Wh-what’s wrong, father…?!”

Haku couldn’t understand the situation and was now even more confused.

“Your father’s injuries have healed. You should be happy for him.”

Tauro spoke for Haku on behalf of the tearful and sobbing Cross.

“Eh? F-Father, is that true? Then…”

Haku, too, was moved to tears at the sight of his father Cross crying and rejoicing, and he hugged his father back.

Cross’s tears were not so much of joy at being cured, but rather of relief at being able to be by the side of his precious son, Haku, even if it was fake, but it was still a happy moment.

Not wanting to disturb this touching moment between father and son, Tauro left Cross’s house and returned to the detached house where Ragune and the others were staying.

“Oh, leader, you’re up early, aren’t you? What are you doing here so early in the morning?”

Ankh was drawing water from the well near their lodgings and washing his face when Tauro returned, so he called out to him.

“Oh right… I guess I was able to help someone, I think?”

“What’s that? You’re not going to sleep now, are you?”

Ankh noticed that Tauro looked sleepy.

“Yeah, I used up a lot of magical power and haven’t slept much, so let me sleep for just an hour.”

Tauro took out a magic recovery potion from his magic storage and drank it as he entered the house.

“Did you do something again? — Oh dear, please don’t do anything reckless when you’re on your own, okay?”

Ankh laughed and watched Tauro’s back as he walked into the house.

Tauro had only intended to sleep an hour but ended up sleeping for three, and when Zion finally woke him up, the village was in a bit of a commotion as Cross’s injuries had healed.

The village chief had repeatedly checked with Cross to see if he had really recovered.

This is only natural, as he had only just last night terminated his contract and fired him, citing the injury as a reason for some unclear reason.

However, the village chief is certainly grateful to have the man who has been Haku’s parent for so many years back.

Over the past thirteen years, they have confirmed that he is a man who can be trusted.

Tauro and his party joined in the commotion.

“What’s all this fuss about?”

Ragune asked when she noticed the village chief and Cross in the circle of commotion, tilting her head.

“Everyone, no, Cross insists that his injuries have healed…”

The confused village chief replied to Ragune.

“You mean that serious injury?”

 Zion asked back, surprised.

Though Zion had little experience, after assessing Cross’s injuries, she felt that there was a limit to what could be done with the treatment, as they were serious and had been sustained a long time ago.

Then, in the next moment, Ragune, Ankh, and Zion realized, “Could it be?” and looked at Tauro.

Tauro felt their eyes on him and looked away.

“Tauro, after what happened last time, everyone scolded you severely, right?”

 Ragune said.

” Tauro-sama, what were you thinking? Don’t do anything dangerous without me around!”

 Said Zion.

“Oi, oi, oi, leader ……. You said there wouldn’t be a next time, right?”

 Added Ankh.

Tauro could tell that the three were much angrier than he had expected, and cold sweat broke out all over his body.

 One hour later──

It was proven in front of the villagers that Cross’s injuries had healed.

At first, the village chief was skeptical and did not believe it, but when he found out that Cross had indeed been cured, he was delighted, thinking it was a pleasant surprise.

Meanwhile, Tauro was forced to sit on the ground with his legs crossed.

The villagers did not understand the reason and asked Ragune and the others, but they did not answer because it was an internal matter, and it was just time for a lecture.

“…… guys, give me a break …….”

Tauro couldn’t go into too much detail here, so he could only take the lectures, but Ragune and the others understood that as well, and lectured him without touching on the nitty-gritty details.

“I can’t feel my legs. ……”

Tauro began to whine in pain as his legs went numb.

“I did a good thing though…”

“That’s not the point, Leader.”

 Ankh now warns.

At that moment, Cross, the central figure in the turmoil, came over to Tauro’s side.

“I haven’t told anyone the details of what happened, Mister Tauro. but I want to thank you for your help. I have nothing but gratitude to you… thank you so much.”

Cross, with a serious look on his face, whispered his thanks into Tauro’s ear.

“…I’m glad to hear that. I’m glad I could help you too. Of course, you’ll give me a thank-you, won’t you?”

Tauro laughed and accepted Cross’s thanks, then replied jokingly.
