Chapter 478: In a Book I Read Before

A silence fell over the room. Of course, all eyes were on me.

What should I do? I need to come up with an excuse somehow.

“Um, I read about a similar sword in a book a while ago.”

“And who exactly wrote that book? Hardly anyone should know of the Holy Sword’s existence…”

A person who appeared to be a researcher in the room placed a hand on his chin and began to think deeply. It seemed he believed me. That was close. When I glanced over at Alex-niisan, he returned my gaze with a smile. What is this feeling? I almost let out a wry smile.

“What did the book Julius read say about this sword?”

My brother’s smile deepened. It felt a little scary. Daniela, my sister-in-law next to him, was also smiling more and more deeply.

Could it be… they’ve sensed something?

Think. I have to think. What’s the best move I can make right now? Should I just keep playing dumb and return to my country?

If I do that, who knows how much damage the Raven Kingdom will suffer before the Bone Dragon is defeated. In the worst case, it might even affect our neighboring country—my own.

Then wouldn’t it be better to repair the Gatekeeper here, teach Erwin-sama how to use it, and have him defeat the Bone Dragon? That way, Erwin-sama can become a count and marry Sophia-sama. And the Raven Kingdom will be saved.

If I’m going to do it, now’s the time.

“U-Um, I’m not sure if it’s true or not, but I think the book had instructions on how to repair the Gatekeeper and how to use it…”

“Julius-sama, please teach us that!”

“Guhe.”

Sophia-sama hugged me. Not as overwhelmingly as Sister-in-law Daniela, but Sophia was also fairly well-endowed. The surprise attack caught me off guard, and I couldn’t secure my airway. I… I can’t breathe…

“Sophia-sama, that’s enough. You’re choking Julius.”

“Aaah! I-I’m sorry!”

” Cough….No, it’s fine. Of course I’ll teach you. Though I can’t guarantee that what was written in the book is accurate.”

I added that disclaimer—just in case. Well, I’m sure it can be restored and made usable, but if I said “it’ll definitely work,” they’d get suspicious.

The room became noisy, but quickly settled down again.

“So, what should we do?”

“Um, can I take a closer look?”

“Of course!”

I stepped closer to the pedestal and examined it carefully. It looked like they had gathered even the broken fragments. If I melt down just this part and reforge it, there shouldn’t be a problem. The enchantments placed on the Holy Sword are unraveling in several places. That’s probably why it wasn’t functioning properly. If I rewrite them, it should be fine.

“Um, if I reattach the broken part and redraw this black pattern, it should be okay.”

“We tried to repair the Holy Sword ourselves, but no matter how much we heated it, nothing changed.”

“Ordinary fire won’t work. It has to be fire created by magic, or it won’t soften.”

The researchers were shocked. Alex-niisan, Sister-in-law Daniela, and Sophia-sama seemed to decide to quietly observe what would happen next. They watched from a short distance away. I don’t know why, but I started to feel a bit queasy.

“I-I see. That hadn’t occurred to us. And how should we redraw this black pattern?”

“This is a mixture of Gravid Crystals and Azure Silver. You had Gravid Crystals in the alchemy room, but do you have any Azure Silver?”

“Of course we do. I’ll fetch it immediately.”

“Ah, wait. Since I’ll need to go to the weapons workshop to forge the Holy Sword anyway, please have it prepared there.”

I stopped the researcher who was about to run off. Honestly, it would be a problem if they brought it here. There’s no proper equipment in this room—unless I used my Laboratory skill.

The Gatekeeper’s blade is an alloy of orichalcum and Azure Silver. I’m really glad they gathered even the broken fragments. Looking for orichalcum now would take too long.

“Move the people currently in the weapons workshop to another room. And bring the Gravid Crystals from the alchemy room.”

“Understood. I’ll arrange it immediately.”

The researchers moved swiftly at Sophia-sama’s command. Her presence was rather dignified. It looked like Erwin-sama might end up completely under Sophia-sama’s thumb. Then again, that’s not so different from the men of House Heine, either.

Will I also end up under Fabienne’s thumb someday? Well, if it’s that butt, I guess I wouldn’t mind.

“Julius, are you sure you’re okay?”

“I think so. Since the craftsmen in the workshop have been cleared out, it looks like I’ll be the one forging the Holy Sword.”

“Can’t someone else do it?”

“…I doubt it. You have to temper it while wrapping it in magic power.”

“I see. Then it’s impossible for anyone else. I’ve never heard of a blacksmith who can use magic.”

My brother gave me a warm smile. His eyes looked like they were worried for me. My sister-in-law looked the same.

To avoid worrying them, and to prepare for what’s coming, maybe I should just give up and tell them everything.

“Brother, Sister-in-law, please keep it a secret that I’ve done blacksmith work.”

“That might be difficult. Sorry, but I’ll have to tell Father.”

“Then please at least keep it between you and Father.”

“Alright. I promise.”

“Don’t overdo it, okay?”

My sister-in-law hugged me. Is this really okay? I’ve just been hugged by two princesses in quick succession. If any other guy saw this, they’d definitely be screaming in jealousy.

While I was enjoying the embrace that she was in no hurry to release, someone called out that the preparations were complete.

I’d explained everything to Alex-niisan and Sister-in-law Daniela, and I was sure Sophia-sama would keep it secret too. The researchers in the room would as well.

Even so, I’m sure problems will arise. But I can’t abandon the people of the Raven Kingdom. If there are people I can save within my reach, I want to save them. That’s my honest feeling right now.
