Chapter 477: Let Me See the Holy Sword

While glancing at Emily-san and John-san, who had their hands clasped and were looking at me with sparkling eyes, I moved on to preparing the next potion. As expected of a royal palace’s alchemy room, there were plenty of materials for both basic and intermediate healing potions. With this, I could teach them without any problems.

“Julius-sama, may I try drinking the antidote as well?”

“Sophia-sama, too? I don’t mind, but…”

She was probably curious because of Emily-san and John-san’s reactions and the shout we heard from Erwin-sama the other day.

Sophia-sama, perhaps having taken the antidote before, closed her eyes and brought a spoonful of it to her mouth.

Though she looks elegant, maybe she has a playful side. Perhaps the reason she was drawn to the knight, Erwin-sama, was because they could be mischievous together.

“It’s so sweet! What is this—are you sure it’s really an antidote?”

Her reaction was exactly the same as Erwin-sama’s! I barely managed to stop myself from bursting into laughter. Even though Alex-niisan had been there at that time too, he maintained a calm expression. That must be the difference in experience. I won’t be catching up to that anytime soon.

“Erwin-sama had the same reaction. You two really are alike, aren’t you?”

“R-Really…?”

Sophia-sama turned bright red. It seemed she was both happy and embarrassed.

Yes, with this, I could understand why the king of the Raven Kingdom approved of their relationship. That’s just how much Sophia-sama thinks about Erwin-sama.

After casting a warm gaze at Sophia-sama, I began teaching Emily-san and John-san how to make the potions. Since the materials used were mostly the same, there was no confusion.

I decided not to teach them how to make the improved, easier-to-drink version of the basic healing potion. That potion was partially my original creation. Teaching it would reveal that I was the one who had taught them potion-making in the first place.

“As expected of the royal court’s exclusive potion master. There’s nothing more I can teach you.”

“It’s because your teaching was excellent. Um, you can make all sorts of potions, right?”

“Well, I can make a fair number… but please ask the royal potion masters of the Spencer Kingdom for the rest.”

Some might call that passing the buck.

If I were to teach more potions, I’d have to stay long-term. But I’m not from the Raven Kingdom, and I believe I’ve contributed more than enough.

Hearing that, the two of them looked clearly disappointed. But they didn’t say anything further.

“Please teach the other potion masters how to make these, Emily-san and John-san. And of course, don’t mention my name.”

“Of course…”

“It’s such a shame we can’t mention your name…”

They looked dejected. I’m sure the king also instructed them to keep it a secret, so it should be fine. It looked like the two of them intended to remain in the lab and teach the other potion masters.

We left the lab so as not to get in their way.

“That wraps up my work here.”

“Good job. Now if we could just do something about the Bone Dragon…”

Alex-niisan patted my head, but I was getting to the age where that was starting to feel a little embarrassing. I guess it’s time I stop patting Rosalia’s head too. I’ll start petting Mira instead.

“I wish there were something we could do as well…”

Sister-in-law Daniela looked troubled. It seemed we could manage things with potions for now, but if we didn’t eliminate the root cause, we’d just slowly run out of options. I really wanted to help somehow, but…

“Julius-sama, you said you wanted to see the holy sword, didn’t you? As a thank-you for teaching us potion-making, His Majesty has granted special permission to show it to you.”

Sophia-sama deliberately brightened the mood to lift the heavy atmosphere. What a good person. The Bone Dragon was a problem for the Raven Kingdom. There was no need for everyone to be gloomy because of it. That’s what her words seemed to say. I decided to go along with it.

“Really? I can see the Raven Kingdom’s holy sword? I’m so excited!”

“That’s great, Julius.”

“I’ll guide you there after lunch.”

After eating lunch in the private courtyard reserved for the royal family, Sophia-sama led us through the castle. We didn’t use the royal dining hall—this must’ve been Sophia-sama’s way of saying thanks. Every dish served was rare and, according to what I heard, made from Raven Kingdom specialty ingredients.

Sophia-sama took us to a workshop inside the castle. It seemed to be a combined weapons and magic tools workshop. As soon as Sophia appeared, the person in charge came over.

“Sophia-sama, I’ve heard the details. Please, this way.”

Without saying another word, we were guided inside.

The matter of the holy sword seemed to be confidential. I had no intention of revealing it, but I’d still have to be careful.

We were taken to the very back of the workshop—to a room separated by an iron door. In the center of that room rested a broken sword.

“That is the holy sword of the Raven Kingdom.”

“That’s the holy sword? It looks divine.”

“It doesn’t look fake at all.”

“Wait—is that… the Gatekeeper?!”

I couldn’t help but shout. I had seen that weapon countless times in the game. You can’t blame me—there it was, exactly as it looked in the game, placed before me. Though it was snapped clean in half.

The Gatekeeper was considered a holy sword in the game too. However, it was one of the more accessible ones. Naturally, I had owned it myself and repaired it when it broke.

Could it be…? A chill ran down my spine as I realized the flag I had triggered. They wanted me to fix it, didn’t they?

Everyone in the room turned toward me after hearing my shout.

Then, Sophia-sama muttered softly:

“How do you know that name?”
