Chapter 466: Chaotic Space

Just as they were beginning to realize that the Full Recovery Potion was an extremely difficult magical potion, I decided to teach them a different one. If things continued like this, they might lose confidence. That would be bad.

“If you consistently focus on careful and precise potion-making, your skills will definitely improve. For that reason, it’s better to be able to make a variety of magical potions.”

“Now that you mention it, I feel like I’ve been making the same potions over and over lately.”

Arisa and the others gave wry smiles. I suppose that can’t be helped. Royal Court Potion Masters are part of an organization that mainly produces what the kingdom needs. They can’t just go around making all sorts of potions freely. Of course, I’m sure they still research a wide range of potions.

After that, I taught them how to make Hot Cookies, Plant Nutrients, Basic Mana Sustaining Potions, Ointments, Water-Repellents, and other magical concoctions. I demonstrated them together with Fabienne, who already knew how to make them, and had everyone try making them themselves.

All of them managed to create high-quality potions on their first try. Hopefully, this helped restore their confidence a little.

“Um, I know it’s a bit late to ask, but… was it really okay to teach us? These are all secret potion recipes, aren’t they?”

Though she asked timidly, Arisa’s eyes were sparkling and her body trembled slightly, as if overcome with emotion. It was an exaggeration. Fabienne and I exchanged a chuckle at her reaction, but then we noticed that both Lyla and Clark were also trembling in the same way.

Fabienne and I instinctively returned to serious expressions. Wait—was this a mistake?

“It’s fine. I trust you all. You wouldn’t misuse what you’ve learned here, would you? Besides, Lyla and Clark will be working together with me to make potions in the Heine Frontier Count’s household. There’s no problem.”

“Of course! We’ll handle these secret recipes with the utmost care.”

“As expected of Professor Julius. The experience of working with you will be passed down through the generations!”

“No need to pass it down through the generations, alright?”

Lyla and Clark’s eyes were shining. It was dazzling. What exactly are they planning to pass down, I wonder? I was starting to get worried.

After that slightly dizzying morning, I decided to give them a tour of the Heine Frontier Count’s family’s prized herb garden and greenhouse in the afternoon.

“This is the herb garden.”

“Th-this is the herb garden? It’s completely different from the one at the royal castle.”

“The luster, the firmness… no, even the way the leaves grow is totally different. Why are they so vibrant?”

“This is the first time I’ve seen medicinal and detox herbs growing so lushly.”

The three of them were excited. Come to think of it, I had never taken a good look at the herb garden in the royal castle. Compared to this place, I suppose it did seem a little barren, but I thought that was because it had just been harvested. If that’s not the case, then it’s understandable that this herb garden would seem like an entirely different level.

“We give them the plant nutrient I showed you earlier on a regular basis. Oh, and make sure to dilute the nutrient as instructed. Whatever you do, never use it undiluted.”

“Of course. We’ll be careful to follow the instructions. By the way, what is that? That’s a magical tool, right?”

“Ah, that’s a watering device called a sprinkler, developed by Rosalia. It sprays water.”

“Sprinkler…”

Six eyes stared intently at the device. Good thing Rosalia wasn’t here. If she were, she’d be bombarded with questions. I went ahead and explained the sprinkler’s capabilities, and how using magically produced water promotes growth and improves the quality of the plants. I’m sure they’ll try it out right away once they return to the royal capital.

When we went to the greenhouse, the commotion grew even louder. Here, the climate can be freely adjusted year-round, allowing us to cultivate a wide variety of materials. While many are still in the experimental phase, thanks to appraisal and plant cultivation skills, we’ve managed to successfully grow quite a few.

“I-I can’t believe it! You can cultivate this?”

“M-mushrooms too? What kind of principles allow this to happen?”

“This place is like a treasure chest of materials!”

Watching the three of them dash around excitedly, even Fabienne seemed a little overwhelmed. She clung tightly to my arm. We were used to it, so we didn’t think much of it, but now that I consider it, their reactions were probably more normal.

“If Giovanni-sama saw this scene, he’d never return to the royal castle. Honestly, I don’t want to go back either.”

“Arisa, please don’t say such frightening things.”

“I’m so glad I went on this training journey. Truly.”

“It was a wise decision, wasn’t it?”

Clark was crying, and Lyla was comforting him through her own tears. What is this chaotic space? I never imagined just showing them a cultivation site would cause such a reaction.

“Professor Julius, is it possible to grow a World Tree?”

“It might grow from a cutting… but absolutely not, okay?”

This is one of those things that must never be done. No matter how much I might want World Tree materials, that’s the one line I cannot cross. If a World Tree started growing in the Heine Frontier Count’s Territory, people would flock here in uncontrollable numbers.

It’s already bad enough being a summer resort and hosting horse races. Maybe suggesting horse racing was a mistake. Even just the summer resort, with a lake and forest walking paths, might’ve been enough. Though it’s too late to say that now—like trying to harvest irises on the sixth or chrysanthemums on the tenth.
