Just another Isekai Lover~

Chapter 436: How does it taste?

Carol stared intently at the small pot, where steam had just begun to rise. After teaching Leon how to make the improved beginner healing potion, he completed it without any trouble. Now, Carol was in the process of making the improved beginner healing potion herself.

The key to making a high-quality magical potion is to avoid boiling it. Therefore, when it looks like it’s about to boil, you have to swiftly pull the pot away from the heat. If you can master that judgment, you can already be called a fine magical potion maker.

Carol swiftly pulled the pot away from the fire. After repeating that process a few times, Carol completed her very first magical potion. There were no issues with its quality. It could be used by the soldiers right away.

“It’s finished, right?”

“Yeah. You properly made a beginner healing potion. Though, it seems you’re not quite able to judge the timing yet. But if you keep making it again and again, you’ll eventually get the hang of it.”

“It’s a matter of feeling, isn’t it?”

Carol gazed at the finished magical potion with deep emotion. Leon also watched it with a serious expression. Was he thinking that a rival had appeared? No way. No brother would burn with rivalry against his cute little sister. Probably.

“To think she could make a beginner healing potion so easily… Does Carol have talent, or was it the master’s teaching…?”

Leon fell into thought. I think it’s the latter. Carol’s handling was still a bit unsteady, and I gave her a lot of advice. Leon, who was able to make it after just seeing it once, clearly has way more talent.

“It’s because Julius’s teaching was good. I can’t make it just by watching, like you can, Oniisan.”

“Is that so? Well, I guess I do have more experience points than you, Carol. It’s only natural, I suppose.”

Leon scratched his cheek shyly, looking embarrassed at being praised by his little sister. Good, good, it seems everything is fine. I’m glad we didn’t end up bringing a seed of conflict into the House of Marquis Mulan.

Since it was a special occasion, we decided to have everyone drink the magical potion that Carol had made for the first time herself. Of course, we would drink it too.

“There’s almost no difference from the ones I made.”

“The refreshing aroma seems a little weaker, though.”

“Maybe I took too much time. Next time, I’ll try doing it a bit more boldly.”

It seemed the same to me, but to Carol and Leon, it apparently tasted a little different. Since the appraisal results were the same, it must be just a slight difference. As expected of the children of a marquis family—they might have a more sensitive sense of taste.

Carol left half of the magical potion she made. After confirming through tasting that there were no problems, she decided to have Axel drink it. Knowing Axel, even if it were a horribly bad-tasting magical potion, as long as Carol had made it, he would probably say, “It’s delicious, it’s delicious,” and drink it without complaint.

When we returned from the mixing room to the salon, everyone who had gone to training also came back at just the right time. It seemed Axel and Isidore had taken a shower before returning, as they carried a fresh, clean scent.

Apparently, they had washed themselves with soap. It looks like the House of Marquis Mulan has fragrant soap stocked up regularly. As expected of them.

“Good job, you two. How was the shower?”

“No problems. As I thought, that’s the best magical tool ever.”

“Thanks to it, we can train without worrying about sweat.”

As I expected, it was a big hit. I really hope it spreads all over the country soon so that everyone can experience such comfort. The only flaw is that the cost of magic stones goes up just a little. But if the demand for magic stones increases, adventurers will probably hunt more monsters. If that happens, towns and villages all over the country will become safer. There’s nothing but good things ahead.

“How did it go over there?”

“Heh heh heh, about that—”

Saying that, I looked at Carol. Carol gave a single nod, then with a stiff face, pulled out a potion. Seeing the half-filled potion bottle, Axel and Isidore tilted their heads. The Marchioness Mulan, who was also there, tilted her head as well. Miss Hilda, who knew the circumstances, watched everyone with a delighted expression.

“Um, Carol, what is this?”

Axel looked confused as the potion was pushed right in front of him. Sensing something, Isidore and the Marchioness exchanged glances between Carol and the potion with expressions like “No way.”

“This is a beginner’s healing potion I made. I’ve already confirmed the taste, so there shouldn’t be any problems. Since it’s the first potion I’ve ever made, I thought I’d like Axel to try it…”

“Don’t tell me Carol really made this?”

The Marchioness looked bewildered. Axel, holding his fingertips to his eyes, was shedding tears. It seemed to be quite a serious case. I don’t think it’s something to be so extremely moved about. Depending on how you look at it, it’s like being subjected to a human experiment. He’ll probably be used as a poison tester from now on. Poor guy.

“Of course I’ll take it. …Um, Marchioness Mulan, would you like to try it too?”

Axel, trying to be considerate, offered, but for the Marchioness—who only knew potions that tasted absolutely awful—this seemed like an outrageous suggestion. She looked at Axel with eyes as if she were seeing a demon. Sensitive to the atmosphere, Isidore quickly said he would like to try it too. Isidore really is a thoughtful and kind boy.

“Well then, excuse me.”

“Mm. It has a refreshing scent.”

“Oh, it really does.”

The harshness faded from the Marchioness’s face. She seemed to become a bit interested. The two of them drank the potion as casually as if they were drinking water. The Marchioness stared at them as if witnessing something unbelievable.

“It’s sweet and delicious. A very well-made beginner’s healing potion.”

“It’s delicious. I could drink this without any resistance.”

Perhaps surprised by their reactions, the Marchioness opened her eyes wide. Carol looked very happy as Axel gave her an enthusiastic endorsement. The experience of something she made being useful to others would surely lead to great confidence for Carol. I think this will be an important first step for her as a potion maker.

Well, the world is still overflowing with awful-tasting potions, so the road ahead is rough. But it’s a joy that even one more ally has been added. Seeing Axel and Isidore’s reactions, the Marchioness likely won’t have a bad impression of Carol becoming a potion maker either.
